Updaing Texbook Inormaion The ollowing procedures are based upon he Adminisraive Regulaion and Procedure EE0102. (See he Online Texbook Apopion Process or more deails.) Texbook Adopion To assure air and consisen exposure o primary course-relaed conen, he same principle exbooks and maerials are o be used in all secions o any course augh wihin he college. There are a ew excepions o his guideline: For courses via alernaive delivery such as, on-line, TV College, ineracive video, and individualized insrucion, he principal ex may be subsiued or supplemened wih oher maerials. Texbooks or course oerings in compuer soware applicaions may dier based on he version o soware used in he class secion. Oher guidelines aecing exbook adopion: Each course mus have exs and supplies which when adoped mus be acquired by he suden. When he publisher releases a new ediion, courses ha have adoped he exbook are o use he new ediion. Texbook adopions should remain in orce or wo or hree years. Supplemenary maerials may vary by insrucor and mus be included in he course syllabus. For insance, Communicaion Skills insrucors require supplemenary novels o achieve he reading novel compeency requiremen. Ideniicaion and approval o exbooks and supplies or a course are he responsibiliy o he Academic divisions. The process o selecing exbooks should involve ull- and par-ime insrucors. I only par-ime insrucors each a paricular course, he selecion is wih hem. Advanced course aculy should be consuled o make sure needed compeencies are included. Advisory commiee inpu is welcomed. To coordinae he disric-wide ideniicaion and processing o exbooks, changes o he oicial exbook or a course are channeled hrough he Curriculum Developmen oice. Speciic daa required or ordering a exbook (auhor, ile, ISBN number, publisher, ec.) and supplemenary maerial are sen o Insrucional Design, where a daabase o exbooks and supplemenary maerials or each course is mainained. This daabase is also used o generae Texbook Summary shees or sudens who are sponsored by agencies ha pay or heir exbooks. Developing Disance Learning Programs/Courses MATC has made a commimen o providing alernaive insrucional delivery as a means o meeing he needs o sudens and o enhance he eaching and learning process. Courses oered a a disance and/or hrough alernaive delivery should mee he same rigor and sandards as convenional courses. I is criical ha good communicaion is esablished in order o plan or his course developmen and implemenaion. The ollowing process has been ideniied o allow or imely planning and implemenaion.
A need or ineres mus be esablished or a program or course o be oered using disance learning. This ineres can develop rom aculy, associae dean, dean or advisory commiee. Curricula or hese oerings mus mee he sandards o he insrucional programs and courses. The iniial concep should be reviewed in he academic deparmen and hen orwarded o he associae dean and dean or approval and ideniicaion o resources o begin developmen. The proposal should be presened o he division curriculum commiee and he Curriculum Deparmen or review. I he concep represens new curricula, he proposal should hen be orwarded o he disric wide curriculum commiee as well as he Curriculum Deparmen. A he nex sep, aculy are assigned o he projec and may be required o demonsrae skill/compeence relaed o he delivery o insrucion using he disance learning mehod. The design eam, consising o individuals such as he aculy charged wih developmen, he associae dean, curriculum leadership and insrucional suppor aculy, should esablish he course developmen and implemenaion imerame. Course developmen plans or summer and all semesers should be compleed by he preceding January and plans or spring semesers should be compleed by he end o he preceding Augus. Issues o appropriae delivery need o be addressed by he oice o Disance Learning. Thereore, proposed curricula mus be developed using he guidelines o he Disance Learning Course Conversion Approval Process along wih he inormaion and approvals ideniied on he MATC Disance Learning Delivery Form.
