Introduction to Language Network Grades 6 8 Language Network goes beyond the study of grammar to the practical application of grammar, writing, and communication skills relevant to students in today s world. A dynamic, easy to use program with a unique, visual approach to teaching and a wealth of engaging resources, Language Network integrates easily into all literature classrooms. Students learn not only how to use language, but why it is important. Easy-to-Use Each of the four sections in the book is color-coded and tabbed. Students and teachers will know exactly where to go to find what they need. Lessons are concisely constructed in two or three pages. All lesson structure is predictable. For example in the Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics section the layout is as follows: Here s the Idea, Why It Matters in Writing, and Practice and Apply. Colorful icons direct teachers and students to support materials, including innovative technology components. Show Don t Tell Approach to Skill Development Information is presented in an accessible manner through a variety of visual approaches: color-coding, illustration of the principles, charts, tables, and other graphic devices. Literary, professional, and student models are used to illustrate skills and concepts. Engaging icons guide students and provide extra help. Communication in the Information Age Lessons show relevance of grammar and writing to students world today. Special features incorporate real-world writing applications. Instruction includes the Internet, electronic sources, and analyzing media. Lessons stress the importance of effective speaking, workplace collaboration, and problem solving. Teachers are supported by a wealth of ancillary materials. A complete listing of all program components is provided on the following page.
