MISSION STATEMENT The SDP Teacher Residency Program is a one-year, full-time teacher preparation program that recruits talented college graduates and career changers and gives them the tools needed to make an immediate impact in the classrooms of the School District of Philadelphia.

SDP TEACHER PREP PROGRAM Our program exists to fill some of the gaps in our District schools: Increase the number of qualified teachers in grades 4-12 in the areas of Math, Science, ELA and Special Education. Improve new teacher preparedness. Increase teacher retention.

FAQs Is the Praxis mandatory for all applicants? Answer: Yes, every applicant must take the Praxis. No applicant is exempt for ANY reason from taking the Praxis. We will not review an application without a passing Praxis exam.

FAQs Which Praxis exam should I take? Answer: We ONLY accept middle and high school Praxis scores for math, science and English. Even if you wish to teach Special Education you MUST take a math, science or English Praxis exam. There is no Praxis for Special Education.

FAQs When does the program officially start? Answer: Please be prepared to begin in the summer as there is a week s intensive for your coursework in July or August 2018. After that, residents are required to report to their placement school on August 20, 2018.

FAQs When do payroll and health benefits begin? Answer: Payroll begins August 2018. Benefits begin on or before October 1, 2018.
