www.unilorin.edu.ng by Kunle Akogun Words on marble: Sound bites from Oloyede book launch L ast Wednesday (February 21, 2018), the iconoclastic former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, was again the cynosure of national eyes, as eminent personalities from all walks of life converged on the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre, in high brow Abuja's Central Area, to publicly attest to his characteristic affability, academic erudition, moral rectitude, and administrative acumen. he occasion was the public presentation of a scholarly publication, Dynamics of Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, written in honour of the respected Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). he compendium of 26 well-researched articles was edited by three of Prof. Oloyede's former Ph.D students at the Departments of Religions, University of Ilorin --- Prof. Yahya Oyewole Imam, Dr. Rafiu Ibrahim Adebayo, and Dr. Abubakar Imam Ali-Agan. Not only was the expansive Yar'Adua Centre filled to capacity, the quality of attendees also spoke volumes of the high esteem Nigerians hold the Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence. From the revered Sultan of Sokoto and PresidentGeneral of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, who was the Royal and Spiritual Father of the occasion, to the former Chief Justice of the Federation, Hon. Justice S. M. A Belgore, who was Chairman of the occasion; from the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, who was Chief Host on the occasion, to legal luminaries, Dr. Wale Babalakin (SAN), the Book Presenter, and Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN), the Master of Ceremony, it was a noholds-barred confetti of encomiums for the man of all moments, as Dr. Mahfouz Adedimeji described Prof. Oloyede in his moving citation. Samplers: I have known Oloyede to be an incorruptible person. He is not an extremist; he loves all and respects all. He mixes freely with everybody, whether you are a Christian or a Muslim ------Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar I have known Prof. Oloyede since his student days in the University. He is extremely religious and very polite. He is a very kind human being with the fear of God, a good teacher and a good Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, one of the best in Africa. ------Hon. Justice S. M. A. Belgore, former Chief Justice of the Federation Prof. Oloyede is the secret behind the greatness of the University of Ilorin. He is catalytic because there is no way he would be in a place and allows things to fail. Prof. Oloyede is a very bold human being and he once told me that 'as far as you are honest, you don't have to fear any human being'. his characteristic I imbibed from him and that is what has been guiding me too. ------Prof Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, Unilorin VC Prof. Oloyede worked at the University of Ilorin as if his entire life and the lives of his family depended on it. And he has brought so many developments to the Fountain University, Osogbo, where he is the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, in the past two years than the institution has ever had since inception. ------Dr Wale Babalakin, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, University of Lagos As a fellow member of the Muslim Students' Society and as an outstanding friend for almost 40 years, I want to say that 90 per cent of what you see in Oloyede today is a product of the rigorous training he imbibed from the MSS. Oloyede would be mad with you if you cross the red line of the Almighty Allah. he goodliness in you will carry you on and on and on. his is just the beginning of the journey. You are an example for all of us to emulate ------Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, former Minister of Education Is-haq (Prof. Oloyede) is one person that I would perform ablution and take the Qur'an and swear that he is not corrupt ------Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN) "When he was my Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oloyede, together with Prof. Luke Edungbola, was the architect of whatever development that occurred at the University of Ilorin during my tenure as Vice-Chancellor. He is a gifted leader and a man of vision. He believes in justice for everybody, whether you are Christian or Muslim. ------Prof. Shamsudeen Amali, former ViceChancellor, Unilorin In the course of my relationship with Prof. Oloyede over the years, I have always got inspirations from him. He played a very significant role in our effort to redress the marginalization of Muslims in Ogun State. ------Prof. D. O. S. Noibi, President of MUSWEN and Prof. Oloyede's lecturer at the University of Ibadan Prof. Oloyede is a workaholic, a man who electrifies his surroundings with an inimitable sense of duty, a man of action and guts. o Prof. Oloyede, whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well. And wherever he finds himself, he is renowned for being extra-ordinary and first class. ------Dr. Mahfouz Adedimeji, former Director, Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, Unilorin o download a copy of UNILORIN BULLEIN weekly, visit: www.unilorin.edu.ng.
