MINISTRY OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS - NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF NUTRITION, DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS SCIENCE Vision To create scientifically trained, skilled human resources in the area of sports sciences to support Indian athletes for performance enhancement and achieve their full potential on par with the International Standards. Mission To equip post-graduate students with knowledge and skills in the multi-disciplinary area of Sports Nutrition, Sports Physiology, Sports Biochemistry etc., to support Indian athletes for international competitions, as envisioned by the Prime Minister under the Skill development and Entrepreneurship scheme - Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. Masters in Sports Nutrition: The Beginning Research in the area of sports nutrition was initiated in 1983 under the Energy Metabolism Division, which was subsequently developed as the Department of Work Physiology and Sports Nutrition at National Institute of Nutrition. After three decades of research, consultancy and extension in the specialized area of Sports Nutrition, it has been rechristened as the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports - National Institute of Nutrition, Department of Sports Science. Viewing the importance of sports sciences for performance, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India (MYAS/GOI) has set up a Centre of Excellence in Sports Nutrition at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN). MYAS/GOI is also supporting for initiation of the M.Sc. (Sports Nutrition) course from the academic year 2018-2020. This course is being launched under MoU with The Osmania University, Hyderabad, and is the first, ever, course of its kind. About the Programme The M.Sc. Sports Nutrition programme of NIN will be conducted under MoU with The Osmania University, Hyderabad. The program will follow Semester System and Choice Based Credit System as per the guidelines issued by UGC. The Choice Based Credit System provides a certain number of core subjects and some choices in a cafeteria type approach in which students can take up the courses of their choice, learn at their own pace, undergo additional courses and adopt an inter-disciplinary approach to learning so as to have overall understanding of the subject. 4

Objectives of the M.Sc. (Sports Nutrition) Programme To develop in-depth knowledge and practical skill sets to ensure planning and implementation of sport specific nutritional support to Indian athletes/ sports persons. To develop a team approach, display adequate team building, and soft skills, to ensure implementation and monitoring of sport-specific nutritional support. To develop research, scholarly skills and paper publication/presentation skills or specific skills needed for entrepreneurship or gain job experience to improve employability. To develop day-to-day support requirements of athletes, critical analysis of situations and problem solving within a team, with specific reference to providing support to elite athletes during training and during international and national events. Career options After the completion of this course, candidates will be suitable to take up careers in the following areas: 1. Sports Nutritionist as part of high performance team to support elite athletes. 2. Sports Nutritionist in Government (Central and State)/Private owned sports academies/ agencies/ federations. 3. Sports nutrition educators/ counselors/diet planners/ advisors/ extension workers. 4. Sports Nutrition teachers/professors/researchers. 5. Sports Nutrition product/supplement developers. 6. Fitness and gymnasium entrepreneurs. Eligibility Candidates seeking admission to the M. Sc. course in Sports Nutrition should have passed 1. Bachelors in Life Sciences/Nutrition or any other examination recognised equivalent thereto or higher degree. OR 2. Any Medical (MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BPT/Allied Medical Science) Degree. The minimum percentage of marks at graduation level required to qualifying for admission / entrance examination is 50% with weightage for SC/ST Candidates as per rules. Age: Maximum age limit for admission into M.Sc. (Sports Nutrition) Course shall be 50 years by 31st December, 2017. In case of SC/ST, the maximum age shall be relaxed by 3 years. Note: If a candidate is found to have concealed any information regarding this matter, the registration of such a candidate is liable to be cancelled. Further disciplinary action will be taken by the University against him/her. 5

Non-CGPA Courses One Ability enhancement course or Skill enhancement course will be compulsory for each student to take up. These courses will be offered after start of each semester. A minimum of one and a maximum of three courses can be undertaken by each candidate. Each course will be awarded 1-2 credits in addition to the CGPA credits. Scheme of Examination 1. English shall be the medium of instruction and examination. 2. For each subject, the total marks for theory are 100 (80 external and 20 internal assessment), and for practical are 50 (internal continuous evaluation). For dissertation and projects/internships, marks will be based on report evaluation, presentations and viva-voce as applicable and decided by the committee. 3. The continuous evaluation shall be based on factors such as participation in case studies, group activities, class attendance, class tests, mid-term test, assignments and viva-voce. 4. The duration of the end semester final examination for each theory course would be three hours. 9

Computation of SGPA and CGPA The SGPA is the ratio of sum of the product of the number of credits with the grade points scored by the student in all the courses taken by the student and the sum of the number of credits of all the courses earned by the student. Calculation of SGPA Where is the number of credits of the course and is the grade point scored by the student in the course. Calculation of CGPA The CGPA is also calculated in the same manner taking into account all the courses cleared by the student over all the semesters of a programme Where is the SGPA of the semester and is the total number of credits in that semester The SGPA and CGPA shall be rounded off to 2 decimal points and reported in the transcripts Award of Degree A student shall be awarded the degree on the following conditions: (i) (ii) He/she must have registered himself/ herself to undergo the chosen course of study; completed the internship and project report specified in the curriculum of his/ her program within the stipulated time, and secured the minimum credits and CGPA prescribed for award of the concerned degree. There are no dues outstanding in the student s name to be paid to the Institute/ University. 10

(iii) No disciplinary action should be pending against the student. (iv) The student should have earned minimum credits (i.e. total credits offered in the program - number of credits, not exceeding 6 credits). The above degree will be awarded with distinction, if a student has earned a minimum CGPA of 7.50 with pass in all subjects in the first attempt. The maximum permissible period for completing the program is 4 years from the date of registration. However, if a student fails to do so, he/she may be permitted to register again to that program after obtaining the requisite approval from the concerned authorities of NIN and OU. Provision for Reappearing Reappearing in examination related to all courses viz. theory/practical/viva shall be permitted. The reexaminations will be scheduled along with the end semester examinations. Attendance Candidates once admitted are required to put in not less than 75% of attendance in lectures (and practical wherever applicable). The Vice-chancellor, on the specific recommendation of the Principal/Head of the Department, may condone the deficiency in attendance to the extent of 10% on medical grounds, subject to production of satisfactory Medical Certificate and on payment of the prescribed condonation fee. No admission shall be made after the expiry of four (4) weeks from the date of commencement of instruction. 11

ADMISSION INFORMATION As per the scheduled dates notified by the NIN, the NOTIFICATION OF ADMISSIONS 2018-2020 INTO M.Sc. APPLICATIONS Application form along with the prospectus can be obtained from the Head of the Department, Extension & Training Division, National Institute of Nutrition, Jamai-Osmania P.O., Hyderabad- 500 007, Telangana State or can be downloaded from www.ninindia.org and www.osmania.ac.in from 17.07.2018 to 05.08.2018. i. Application Fee: All applications should be accompanied by original Demand Draft for an amount of Rs.3000/- (Rupees Three thousand only) in respect of OC/OBC/BCs candidates and Rs. 2700/- (Rupees Two thousand seven hundred only) for SC/ST candidates towards the application fee, drawn in favor of THE DIRECTOR, NIN, payable at HYDERABAD on any Nationalized Bank. ii. Duly filled in applications along with DD towards application fee and necessary enclosures under State and Central quota should be submitted to the Head of the Department, Extension and Training Division, National Institute of Nutrition, Tarnaka, Jamai Osmania Post, Opp. Tarnaka Metro Station, Hyderabad - 500 007. Application should reach the designated office on or before 5.00 p.m. of 06.08.2018. iii. The filled in application forms received after the time and the date specified above shall be rejected. Neither Osmania University nor the National Institute of Nutrition are responsible for non-receipt of application or delay in postal transit or loss in transit. iv. Applications unaccompanied by the registration fee, certificates, application with incomplete entries and application from ineligible candidates shall stand rejected automatically. v. Application fee once paid will not be refunded. SYLLABUS AND PATTERN FOR ENTRANCE TEST The candidates need to appear for online entrance test, which is based on the MCQ (objective type) to be conducted by National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad. The Online Entrance Test will be for 100 marks and will be of 90 minutes duration. The test shall consist of 3 parts and the marks are allotted as shown below. Sl. Biochemistry 25 1 25 Note: The question paper will be in English only Minimum qualifying marks in the Entrance Test are as follows: 1. 40 marks for SC and ST candidates 2. 50 marks for all other candidates Merit list shall be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the online Entrance Test. In case of equality of marks in the Entrance Test, the total percentage of the marks in the qualifying examination (upto two decimal places) shall be taken into consideration for fixing the merit of candidates. If the entrance test marks and the percentage of marks in qualifying examination are 13

equal, the age of the candidate shall be taken into consideration and older candidates will be placed higher in merit. The marks of the candidates in order of merit and in order of Hall Tickets number will be displayed in the websites of NIN (www.ninindia.org) and OU (www.osmania.ac.in). Note: If the candidate fails to submit the marks memos from first to final year of qualifying examination, the minimum passing marks shall be taken into consideration. NUMBER OF SEATS i. The total No. of Seats is 15. Out of the 15 seats available, 5 seats are reserved for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh (State quota) and 10 seats are reserved for the applicants outside Telangana & Andhra Pradesh (Central Quota). Further details will be presented in Annexure-I of the prospectus. ii. The distribution of seats under Central quota will be implemented as per the rules of the Central Govt. vide No. DL-(N) 04/007/2006-08 dated 3rd Jan 2007. Accordingly, 15%, 7%, and 27% seats are reserved for SC, ST and OBC candidates respectively. iii. The procedure indicated in Annexure-III to G.O.P.No. 646, Education dated 10-7-1979 shall be followed in the selections the of candidates. 15%, 6% and 29% seats are reserved for SC, ST and BC (A-7%, B- 10%, C-1%, D-7% and E-4%) candidates respectively as followed by the net group reservation. Note: To claim reservation under the categories candidate should produce a certificate issued by a Revenue Official not below the rank of District Revenue Authority. SCRUTINY OF APPLICATIONS AND ISSUE OF HALL TICKETS i. Application under both the Central quota as well as the State (TS & AP) Quota will be received and scrutinized at NIN, Hyderabad as per the regulations under the chairmanship of the Course Co- Coordinator. A representative of OU may be present at the time of scrutiny of applications. ii. The list of eligible and non-eligible candidates will be put up on NIN s website (www.ninindia.org) and OU s website (www.osmania.ac.in) as well as on the notice boards of NIN and OU. iii. The course Co-coordinator at NIN will act as Chief Superintendent of Entrance Test and will upload hall tickets on the website to the eligible Candidates. iv. The admission will be done through Counseling at NIN by the committee appointed by Director, NIN consisting of at least one representative from OU. v. The seats under the Central quota will be filled up first and vacant seats, if any, will be offered to the eligible candidates from the State Quota and vice-versa, and based on merit. SELECTION OF THE CANDIDATES i. The Selection Committee consisting of the members from NIN and OU will select the candidates. ii. Online Entrance Examination will be conducted if the number of applications is more than the number of seats for admission to the course. If the number of applications received is less than the number of seats, NIN will not conduct entrance test and all the eligible applicants will be selected for admission. iii. After finishing the admission procedure, the list of selected candidates admitted by NIN with all Original Certificates and university fee shall be sent to the Registrar, OU for approval of admissions. 14

RESERVATION Local and Non-Local Candidates: i. Admission to 85% of the available seats in every course shall be reserved in favour of the local candidates in relation to the local area in respect of O.U. subject to community and other reservations in force (Detailed in Annexure-II). ii. The remaining 15% of the seats which are open to local and non-locals shall be filled up subject to similar reservation as applicable to 85% local candidates (Detailed in Annexure-II). HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION The hostel is well equipped with furniture, Wi-Fi and has LCD television besides other facilities. The hostel rooms are spacious and well furnished. The hostel also includes a dining facility and students are not allowed to cook in their hostel rooms. It provides all the students a safe and comfortable environment. It is a Zero tolerance for ragging and a No Smoking Zone. The students who secure admission at NIN are eligible for hostel accommodation. The hostel seats are reserved as per the government rules for SC/ST/OBC. Admission to the hostel will be given as per the merit and the following categorization: Category A: 95% of seats will consist of those students whose parents are not residing in or around Hyderabad. A proof of residence has to be submitted for the same. Category B: 5% of the seats will consist of those students whose parents are not residing in Hyderabad but 20 kms or more from the NIN. A proof of residence has to be submitted for the same. Admission to hostel will be allowed if applied for at the time of submitting application form for admission to the course. Candidates are requested to send application on separate form available in hostel office, along with the application for admission. Hostel accommodation in subsequent year of the academic course is not assured. Any candidate not fulfilling the attendance requirement during the current academic year will be denied the hostel seat in the next academic session. DOCUMENTS TO BE ENCLOSED WHILE SUBMITTING APPLICATION FORM The students who are eligible as per the cut off lists can apply for admission, subject to the availability of seats. The students are required to fill in the admission application form. All those who are granted admission provisionally are required to pay the course fees, on or before the dates prescribed for the same and also submit the following documents: 1. Original DD for Rs. 3000/- (for OC/OBC/BC) & Rs. 2700/- (for SC/ST) towards application fee. 2. Clear and visible attested photocopies of all marks statements from 1 st to Final year of qualifying exam. 3. Attested copy of the Internship Certificate mentioning date of commencement and completion of Internship wherever applicable. 4. Attested copy of Provisional or Original Degree Certificate of qualifying exam. 5. Attested Copies of Study Certificates from 9 th to qualifying examination. 6. Attested copy of X class or equivalent certificate as proof of age. 15

If the applicant has not studied qualifying examination in the state, he/she shall submit following certificates as per regulation in Annexure-I & II whichever is applicable to the applicant. a. 10 Years Residence Certificate of the candidate in the State of T.S and A.P. (OR) b. 10 Years Residence Certificate of either of the Parents/Spouse (Certificate of relationship also shall be enclosed). 8. Social Status (Caste) Certificate. 9. Candidates claiming eligibility as Local/Non-Local should furnish relevant certificates in support of their claim. 10. Candidates who have studied in the state of Andhra Pradesh / Telangana. a. If the candidate has studied in any educational institution, study/ bonafide certificate from IX to degree (Govt. ZPH/Private School or College) shall be submitted. b. A candidate who has studied in 2 or more institutions in various places in Andhra Pradesh including Telangana, study bonafide certificate from IX to degree (Govt. /ZPH/Private School or College) in those places shall be submitted. c. A candidate who has not studied a class in any school/institution, a residence certificate for that period only shall be submitted. d. Candidate who have not studied in any school/ college in the state of T.S/A.P., but resided in Andhra Pradesh including Telangana with private study in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for seven years with residence certificate mentioning the period of residence preceding the qualifying examination (6th to Inter) by the candidate claiming eligibility as a local by virtue of residence shall be submitted. 11. Candidates who have studied in the institutions outside the State of Andhra Pradesh / Telangana have to submit 10 years residence certificate of the either of the parents issued by MRO or Regional/ Local/ Revenue Officer to claim seats under unreserved category. CERTIFICATES TO BE SUBMITTED AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION Candidates called for admission must present in person and submit all the ORIGINAL certificates listed below, along with two sets of photocopies. i. Degree certificate (or Provisional Certificate if Degree Certificate is not yet issued as per rules) of qualifying examination. ii. Memoranda of Marks (Part-I and Part-II) of the qualifying degree examination. iii. Proof of Local / Non-Local candidates, according to rules in force. Those who have studied Intermediate and Degree courses as regular students need to submit only the Bonafide certificates from colleges they have studied Intermediate and Degree courses. In case, there is a break in the four consecutive years preceding the qualifying examination, the candidates must submit Bonafide certificate of 9th and 10th class. Non-local candidates should submit i) a residence certificate for 10 years of either of the parents from M.R.O. or ii) employee certificate from the employer. iv. Community, Nativity and Date of Birth Certificate for S.C/S.T./B.C., candidates as per G.O.M.S. No. 58 Social Welfare (J) Department dated 12-5-1997 v. Service Certificate and No-objection Certificate from the employer, in case of employed candidates. vi. Required Fee. 16

Note: Pay-in-slip will be issued to the candidates for depositing the fees directly at the Extension Counter of the NIN Bank. Bank timings: Weekdays 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. (Monday to Friday). If the fees and the original certificates are not received by the due date, the admission granted to the candidate will be treated as cancelled. CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION i. If any candidate is found to secure admission on the basis of false information with respect to age, subject, percentage of marks, special categories etc., his/her admission will be cancelled and primitive action would be initiated. ii. Candidates are not permitted to pursue more than one course, at any point of time. If such cases are detected, the admission of the candidate in both the courses will be cancelled at any time. iii. Students who fail in the 1 st year Examination in the course and are seeking re-admission will be treated as fresh applicants for the purpose of admission. 17

ANNEXURE-I I. RESERVATIONS FOR CENTRAL QUOTA OF 10 SEATS A. All candidates are eligible for central quota except the candidates of Telangana (TS) and Andhra Pradesh (AP). Candidates who are eligible to appear for Entrance Test either as Local or Non-Local of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh are not eligible to seek admission for the Central Quota seats. Candidates seeking admission under Central Quota shall produce a certificate from a Revenue Official not below the rank of District Revenue Authority from the state from which he/she belongs and claims Nativity. B. The distribution of seats under Central quota will be implemented as per the rules of the Central Govt. vide No. DL-(N) 04/007/2006-08 dated 3rd Jan 2007. Accordingly, 15%, 7%, and 27% seats are reserved for SC, ST and OBC candidates respectively. To claim reservation under the above categories candidate should produce a certificate issued by a Revenue Official not below the rank of District Revenue Authority. Note: If the candidates from outside the state are not available such seats shall be filled up by the candidates of TS and AP (Local and Non-Local) as per the old regulations on merit basis. II. RESERVATIONS FOR STATE QUOTA OF 5 SEATS A. These seats for M.Sc. (Sports Nutrition) Course conducted by NIN is considered as nonstatewide course. B. Admission to 85% of the available seats shall be reserved in favour of local candidates in relation to the local area. While determining 85% in favour of local candidates any fraction of seat shall be counted as one as per the Presidential Order. C. ANNEXURE-II RULES OF ADMISSION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ANDHRA PRADESH EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS (REGULATION OF ADMISSION) ORDER 1974. I. Admission to 85% of the available seats in every course of study provided by the Osmania University, shall be reserved in favour of LOCAL CANDIDATES in relation to the LOCAL AREA in respect of the Osmania University subject to community and other reservations in force. A. LOCAL AREA: The part of the Telangana State comprising the Districts of Adilabad, Bhadradri, Hyderabad, Jagtial, Jangaon, Jayashankar, Jogulamba, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, Komaram Bheem, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Medak, Medchal Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Suryapet, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Warangal Rural, Warangal Urban, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri (Osmania University and Kakatiya University area) shall be regarded as local area for the purpose of admission. The part of the Andhra Pradesh State comprising the Districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam (Andhra University and Nagarjuna University area), Ananthapur, Kurnool, Chittoor, Kadapa and Nellore (S.V. University /S.K.University area) shall be regarded as the local area for the purpose of admission. B. LOCAL CANDIDATE: 1. A candidate for admission to any course of study shall be regarded as a Local Candidate in relation to local area: a) If he has studied in an educational institution or educational institutions in such local area for a period of not less than four consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he appeared or as the case may be, first appeared in the relevant qualifying examination or. b) Where, during the whole or any part of the four consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he appeared or, as the case may be, first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination, he has not studied in any educational institution if he has resided in that local area for a period of not less than four years immediately preceding the date of commencement of the relevant qualifying examination in which he appeared or, as the case may be, first appeared. 2. A candidate for admission to any course of study who is not regarded as a local candidate under sub-paragraph (1) in relation to any local area shall: a) If he has studied in an educational institution in the State for a period of not less than seven consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he appear or, as the case 19

may be first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination be regarded as a local candidate in relation to i) Such local area where he has studied for the maximum period out of the said period of seven years, or ii) Where the periods of study in two or more local areas are equal, such local area where he has studied last in such equal periods; or b) If, during the whole or any part of the seven consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which he appeared, or as the case may be, first appeared for the relevant qualifying examination, he has not studied in the educational institution in any local area, but has resided in the State during the whole of the said period of seven years be regarded as a local candidate in relation to. i) Such local area where he has resided for the maximum period out of the said period of seven years: or, ii) Where the periods of his residence in two or more local areas are equal, such local area where he has resided last in such equal periods. 3. The remaining 15% of the available seats, which are open to local and non-local, shall be filled up subject to similar reservation as applicable to 85% local candidates as below: a) All candidates who have studied in a recognised educational institution or institutions in the State for a period of not less than four consecutive academic years ending with the academic year in which they appeared or as the case may be, first appeared in the relevant qualifying examination, or where during the whole or any part of such four consecutive academic years, if they have not studied in any educational institutions, if they have resided in the State for a period of not less than four years immediately preceding the date of commencement of the relevant qualifying examination. b) Candidates who have resided in the State for a total of ten years excluding periods of study outside the State, or either of whose parents have resided in the State for a total period of ten yeas excluding the periods of employment outside the state. c) Candidates who are children of parents who are in employment of this State or Central Government, Public Sector Corporations; Local Bodies, Universities and other similar quasipublic institutions within the state. d) Candidates who are spouses of those in the employment of this Sate or Central Government, Public Sector Corporations; Local Bodies, Universities and Educational Institutions recognized by the Government, a University or other competent authority and other similar quasi-public Institutions within the State. e) Candidates who are employees in a State, Central Govt. undertakings, Public Sector Corporations, Local Bodies, Universities and other similar quasi-public institutions within the state. 20
