Please note: ` - GCSE English Language is required for almost all subjects at / Level 3 BTEC - GCSE Mathematics is required for many subjects please check individual subject requirements - In addition you must have an ability to demonstrate a good attitude towards learning across KS4 - We strongly advise that students look closely at the subject specific entry requirements listed below Subject specific requirements: Art Preferably a GCSE grade level 6 in Art and GCSE grade level 4 in English Language. ALL external students must bring their portfolio to school at the beginning of the course in September - you must have proven practical skills and a genuine passion for creating and making. If you attained a GCSE grade level 5 in GCSE Art and Design, your attitude to learning record will be taken into consideration and you will be expected to discuss your choice with the subject leader; acceptance to the course will be at their discretion. Business GCSE grade level 5 in English Language and Mathematics. If you have a BTEC Level 2 in Business a minimum of a Distinction is required. Business Level 3 BTEC GCSE grade level 5 in English Language and Mathematics. If you have a Level 2 BTEC in Business a minimum of a Distinction is required. Your attitude to learning must be very good. Biology GCSE Triple Science GCSE grade level 6 in the subject and a GCSE grade level 6 in GCSE Double Science GCSE grade level 7 and the other at least a GCSE grade level 6. You will need to have at least a GCSE grade level 4 in Mathematics and Science (15% of the involves Mathematics) If, however, your grade is a GCSE grade level 4 or 5, or you are considering changing to a different area offered within Design Technology you will need to have a real enthusiasm for the new subject along with plenty of practical experience. You will also be required to discuss your choice with the specialist teacher for the subject. Drama and Theatre Studies GCSE grade level 6 in Drama or BTEC Performing Arts Distinction. GCSE grade level 5 in English Language. (GCSE grade level 4 in English Language maybe accepted however the decision lies with the Subject Leader) Your attitude to learning must be very good. Economics GCSE grade level 6 in English Language and Mathematics English Literature GCSE grade level 6 in both English Language and English Literature English Literature and Language Fashion and Textiles Product Design GCSE grade level 6 in English Language and GCSE grade level 5 in English Literature Ideally you will have achieved a GCSE grade level 6 in Textiles. Food Science and Nutrition Level 3 Diploma You will need a GCSE grade level 4 in English and have studied Food Preparation and Nutrition at GCSE, and achieved a minimum of a GCSE grade level 6 grade. If, however, your grade is a 4 or 5, or you have not studied Food at GCSE, you will need to have a real enthusiasm for the subject along with plenty of practical experience. You will also be required to discuss your choice with the specialist teacher for the subject. Film Studies GCSE grade level 4 in English Literature and English Language

French GCSE grade level 6 in French and GCSE grade level 4 in English Language. A grammar assessment will take place in September. Further Mathematics GCSE grade level 8 in Mathematics required. Students must have completed and handed in the induction homework. Anyone who was not at induction will be given the homework at the start of the course. This is based on the work in the induction booklet and includes skills that are essential to this A level. ICT Level 3 Cambridge Technical ICT or Computer Science qualification at GCSE grade level 5 or equivalent and GCSE grade level 4 in English Language Mathematics GCSE grade level 7 required. Student with a grade level 6 will be considered on a case by case basis and a subject enhancement course will need to be completed before the A level course begins. Students who have completed the GCSE early should have studied some form of mathematics for the rest of the year such as Additional Mathematics (FMSQ) or done A level booster work. Summer induction homework must be completed and handed in. Anyone who was not at induction will be given the homework at the start of the course. A basic skill test will be sat in the first or second lesson, failure to meet the departments pass mark will result in the student being placed on a course of intervention. The test is based on the work in the induction booklet and includes skills that are essential to the A level course. Please note, this course is not suitable for those students who have had a gap year in their mathematics education between GCSE and. You will need to seek advice from the Subject Leader. Media GCSE grade level 4 in English Language Music GCSE grade level 6 in Music and GCSE grade level 4/5 in English Language.

A minimum of Grade 5 standard in one instrument or voice. Music Technology GCSE grade level 6 in Music or a Distinction in a Music Technology qualification at KS4. Due to the increased science content of the Music Technology A Level course students will need to achieve a GCSE grade level 5 in both Science/Physics and Mathematics GCSE. If neither of these have been achieved, then there will need to be an interview with the Subject Leader. You will also need GCSE grade level 4 in English Language. Performing Arts Acting Level 3 BTEC GCSE grade level 4/5 in English Language. If you have a Level 2 BTEC in Performing Arts a minimum of a Merit is required. Your attitude to learning must be very good. Physical Education GCSE grade level 6 in PE or Distinction in Level 2 BTEC SPORT GCSE grade level 6 in Science (or equivalent) GCSE grade level 5 in English Language. Philosophy and Ethics (RS) GCSE grade level 4 or above in English Language. Photography GCSE grade level 4 or above in English Language. Whilst not a prerequisite for entry to Photography, any student who has completed a GCSE in Photography should have a GCSE grade level 5 or above in Photography. Physics GSCE Triple Science GCSE grade level 6 in the subject and a GCSE grade Level 6 in Mathematics and a GCSE grade level 5 in English Language GSCE Double Science GCSE grade level 7 and the other at least a GCSE grade level 6. It is also recommended that you study A level Mathematics. Psychology GCSE grade level 5 in English Language, GCSE grade level 5 in Mathematics, and GCSE grade level 4 in Science (Students who have exceptional circumstances, and who do not meet these criteria, may be considered for the course however the decision lies with the Subject Leader.) Sociology GCSE grade level 5 or above in English Language (Students who have exceptional circumstances, and who do not meet these criteria, may be considered for the course however the decision lies with the Subject Leader.) Spanish GCSE grade level 6 in Spanish and GCSE grade level 4 in English Language. A grammar assessment will take place in September.

Sport L3 BTEC National Extended Certificate Either GCSE Grade level 6 in PE or Distinction in Level 2 BTEC Sport and GCSE grade level 5 in English Language. Your attitude to learning must be very good. Please note: Subjects can be withdrawn if there are insufficient numbers wanting to take the course. Re-sit Mathematics GCSE This course is compulsory for students who did not get a GCSE grade 4 or higher. Those who achieved a grade 4 can join the GCSE resit class. There will be a resit opportunity in November only for these students to get a grade 5 (any subsequent entries can be done through the school at the candidate s expense.)
