CEG CAREERS EDUCATION AND GUIDANCE
A Career could include: Full-time Education or Training Paid employment Gap years Resting Unemployment Voluntary work Part-time work
Workers face multi-career changes People starting work in 20 years' time will change jobs up to 19 times in their lifetime, says new research. Many will need to hold down two jobs at once to make ends meet, says the report Some people, such as postal workers, milkmen and estate agents, might also be influenced by uncertainty over the prospect of their jobs continuing in the future, it is claimed. Chris Humphries, former director general at City & Guilds, said: "A job for life has long gone and in the future it will be commonplace for a professional such as an architect to hold down a job as, say, a chef, at the same time".

What s your Mindset? Fixed Believe that talent is something you are born with Believe that if you have to try it must mean you aren t clever Believe that they are no good at some subjects Intelligence is fixed, no matter how hard you work Growth Believe you can develop your skills with practice Believe everyone should be challenged, everyone should try You can get better, even in the subject you find the hardest Intelligence can increase, with the right effort
Quotes I worked hard, it's not a gift. Michael Jordan, Basketball Player A genius! For 37 years I ve practiced fourteen hours a day, and now they call me a genius! Pablo Sarasate, Violinist & Composer
Parents as Role Models Identify our own mindsets first I ve never been good at I need to practise Praise the good processes, not the outcomes
What can we do? Role Models Praise & Rewards Not Yet
Be careful with praise You re so clever I m so proud of you! You ve finished these already?! Wow you must be really good at this! Emma you ve excelled again We can always count on you to produce the goods I like the way you ve presented this work it s really creative
Praise and Rewards Praise, where given, should be focussed on process and strategies A self-confidence that is built by over praising is very fragile Positive feedback is more useful than praise Avoid hyperbole
