Program Information The LVN/Paramedic to A.D.N. Mobility Program is an accelerated program designed for LVN s or Paramedics that desire to become Registered Nurses. The ADN Mobility program is an adult-student centered learning environment Successful completion of the program requires a commitment to professionalism and personal sacrifice The program is 3 semesters long (excluding the summer unless remediation is required) Applications for admissions are accepted in the Fall and Spring semesters only. Program students are required to attend classes either one or two days a week including an additional day a week for clinical. (days may vary each semester) *It is recommended students who are actively employed not work more than 20 hours/week to promote success in the ADN Mobility Program. 6/18/2014 www.sanjac.edu 2
Things to know before you apply This is an accelerated program, which entails a faster pace compared to transitional programs. It requires commitment to disciplined preparation, study-time, and student accountability on and off campus. 1:3 hour prep-time 1:3 hour study-time The ADN mobility program classes are offered in 8 and 16 week formats. Didactic and Clinical classes can be scheduled on any day of the week; including weekends, evenings, and/or night sessions. Admission Requirements In order for an applicant to be considered for admission: A prospective applicant must first be accepted into San Jacinto College before being eligible to apply for admissions for the LVN/Paramedic to A.D.N. Mobility Program. All pre-requisites must be completed with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA. Applicant must successfully pass the HESI Admission Exam with a score of 75% or higher on each section. The exam can only be taken at San Jacinto College South Campus. Prospective applicant must not have failed out of any RN program within the past two (2) years. 6/18/2014 www.sanjac.edu 5

Required Documentation Copy of LVN and Paramedic license (internet print out is acceptable) All official transcripts need to be submitted and evaluated by the SJC Enrollment Services Department at the time of application submission Degree Evaluation ( Instructions are attached to application) All official transcripts must also be submitted to the A.D.N. Mobility Department along with the application for admissions Applications will not be accepted if they are missing any of the required documentation or if not submitted in a folder. As a result, applications will be deemed incomplete and will not be considered for admissions into the ADN Mobility program. 6/18/2014 www.sanjac.edu 7
Immunization Requirements Tdap All students must show proof of at least one dose of tetanus/diptheria since 2005. TB Skin Test Student must show proof of a TB Skin test within the past 12 months or Chest X-ray within the past 24 months. Results must include date administered and read. MMR Series ( Rubella, Mumps, and Measles) All students must provide proof of positive titer results for the MMR series. Hepatitis B Series All students must show proof of 3 doses of Hepatitis B Vaccine ( No older than 3 years) or serologic confirmation of immunity. Immunization Requirements Varicella All students must provide proof of positive titer result. History of disease is not acceptable. Influenza All students must show proof of seasonal influenza vaccine and must show proof of renewal prior to annual expiration. Copies of immunization records must be submitted with the application for admissions in order for the application to be accepted. If immunizations expire while in the program, it is the students responsibility to provide updated documentation to the A.D.N. Mobility Department in a timely fashion. The TB Skin Test and the Influenza Vaccine must be completed annually. Students will not be able to attend clinical if their immunizations are expired. 6/18/2014 www.sanjac.edu 9
Background Check and Drug Screening A background check and drug screening is required by all prospective applicants as part of the admissions requirements. Criminal Background Check: (Must be completed during the application period) A criminal background check will be required before the application will be considered for admissions in the A.D.N. Mobility program. The criminal background check will be completed via certifiedbackgroundcheck.com. Having a criminal background will not necessarily disqualify a prospective student for admissions into the A.D.N. Mobility program. However, a Declaratory Order will be required. If you suspect something may show on your background, you must submit a request for a Declaratory Order through the Texas Board Of Nursing. Please begin the process immediately as it can take 6-8 weeks to be completed. For more information regarding requesting a declaratory order, please contact the Texas Board of Nursing. ***REMEMBER you must have a Declaratory Order on file from the Texas Board of Nursing and turned in with your application prior to the first day of class. Drug Screening: (Must be completed during the application period) Students who receive a positive drug screening will not be allowed to enter the program unless sufficient documentation in regards to the positive outcome is submitted. 6/18/2014 www.sanjac.edu 10
HESI A2 Admission Exam All prospective applicants are required to complete the HESI A2 Admissions Exam as part of the admission requirements for the LVN/Paramedic to A.D.N. Mobility program. HESI scores from outside sources will not satisfy the admission requirements; students must take the HESI Exam at San Jacinto College- South Campus if seeking admission into the A.D.N. Mobility program. In order for a prospective applicant to receive permission to test; the student must first submit a completed application for admissions to the A.D.N. Mobility department. The HESI test is reserved only for prospective students for the A.D.N. Mobility program. The applicant is only able to sit for the exam twice (2) per enrollment semester The exam can only be taken at San Jacinto College South Campus. The applicant must successfully pass with a minimum score of 75% or higher on each of the required exam sections. 6/18/2014 www.sanjac.edu 11
HESI A2 Assessment Section Student must achieve a score of 75% or higher on each of the required sections listed below to qualify for admissions Math: Focuses on math skills needed for healthcare fields, including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, household measures, general math facts, etc. Reading Comprehension: Provides reading scenarios in order to measure reading comprehension including: identifying the main idea, finding meaning of words in context, passage comprehension, making logical inference, etc. Vocabulary and General Knowledge: Contains basic vocabulary terms that are commonly used in both general English speaking and healthcare fields. Grammar: Contains basic grammar including: parts of speech, important terms and their uses in grammar, commonly occurring grammatical errors, etc. 6/18/2014 www.sanjac.edu 12
HESI A2 Assessment Section O Anatomy and Physiology (A&P): Quick assessment of A & P knowledge. Provides coverage of general terminology and anatomical structures and systems. O Beginning Spring 2013, the following new sections will be required with HESI Admissions Exam O Personality Profile: Uses concepts related to introversion and extroversion to classify the students personality styles. O Learning Styles: Assess the preferred learning style of the applicant and offers test-taking and study tips to the learning style. No minimum score required for the personality profile and learning style sections of the HESI A2. This information will be used to provide students with necessary resources available to promote success in the A.D.N. program. 6/18/2014 www.sanjac.edu 13
Reasons for Automatic Denial of Admissions Failed out of an academic nursing program within the past two years. Any two grades of a "D" or below in RNSG courses with the past two (2) years. Any two grades of a " D" or below in BIOL courses within the past five (5) years. Grades of "IP", "NG", "FX", etc. will be considered failures. Grades of "W" will not count as a failure.
