As we start to think about the end of this school year and Open House, it is a good time to reflect on the wonderful year we have had at Wilbur Charter. This year, Wilbur Charter was lucky to have: Confident, intelligent students who always try their best Faculty who do their best to teach our students so they are college and career ready Aides and office staff who support our students in so many ways A custodial staff who keeps our school looking fabulous Parents who help to sustain our wonderful programs And of course, the best students in the world! Please come to visit your child s classroom on Thursday, May 7, 2015 for Open House. Every classroom will be open from 6:00 7:30 PM to ensure parents have time to see their child s work over the course of this year. Please note that this is not a time for individual conferences with our teachers or a discussion about class placement for next year! In addition, due to the amount of children that night, there will be no parking on the yard. Thank you for your ongoing support. Deborah Plat, Principal Double-Parking Drivers Parents, please remember that the front of the school is not a drop off zone for our students. Too many parents are double parking or letting students out on the opposite side of the street. This is an accident waiting to happen! Also, too many parents are double and triple parking in the kinder area, and parking along the red curbs. Please follow the traffic rules at all times for the safety of our students, parents, and staff members! In addition, our kinder teachers park over by the kinder yard due to the small faculty parking lot please do not take their spots! Friends of Wilbur Thanks to FOW for an amazing time at the recent Spring Fling Carnival and Auction. Everyone had a wonderful time! Friends of Wilbur is still tallying up the proceeds; however, all proceeds raised benefit our students and faculty for the upcoming school year. START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR 2015-2016 Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 18, 2015; our first day of school. Dismissal will be at 1:29 PM, and we expect every student to be here! Clothes/Lunch Boxes in Lost and Found Please check the Lost and Found, located by the two story building, for any clothes or lunch boxes your child or children may have left at school. All items not picked up before the last day of school will be donated to charity. Friends of Wilbur President s Message Have A Great Summer Wilbur Families! We have (almost) finished another school year! I would like to thank all of our fellow parents at Wilbur Charter for Enriched Academics for making this an excellent year! The Friends of Wilbur Board would like to thank all of the parents who volunteered throughout the year to help make our fundraising events successful. We could not do it without you and we are so grateful. I would like to give a special thanks to Shelley Hamner and Leegie Parker for organizing and setting up our Spring Fling Carnival & Auction. The turnout for this event truly was amazing! It was so wonderful to see all of our Wilbur families come together as a community. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with this event. This was a huge team effort and we could not have done it without the help of our teachers and parents who volunteered their time and effort. Our last fundraiser of the year is our Online Auction! We have amazing items you can bid on at a HUGE discount. The online auction will begin on Thursday, MAY 7 th at 8:00am and end on Sunday, MAY 10 th at 9:00pm. Be sure to go online to check out our items and bid at: biddingforgood.com/wilburauction. Don t miss out on this, we have tons of exciting items!!! As I end my first year as FOW President, I would like to sincerely thank our dedicated Board Members. We are a group of 14 parents who have full time jobs and each and every one of you gives 100% to raise money for programs that the LAUSD cannot provide to our students. Your commitment to making Wilbur Charter for Enriched Academics one of the best schools in the Valley is undeniable. Finally, I would like to thank Principal Plat for her partnership with Friends of Wilbur. We have worked closely all year in an effort to enhance and better the education of our children. Thank you for letting me be a part of your team and for your incredible support throughout the year! Thank you and have a great summer! Sincerely, Wendy Feldstein, President Friends of Wilbur
