Understandings Language enables communication. Language is inextricably linked to culture. Western languages have certain structural similarities. Questions Knowledge Vocabulary Skills How can travel broaden one s horizons? How do people spend their free time? Airport procedures are similar in Hispanic countries to the ones in the U.S. Attitudes towards leisure time reflect the culture of each country. Terms: o airport and travel, leisure activities, preterite tense of regular and irregular verbs, spelling changes in the preterite, stemchanging verbs in the preterite Use appropriate vocabulary to purchase an airplane ticket and check-in for a flight. Use appropriate vocabulary to proceed through airport after deplaning (security, customs, etc.) Describe a past international trip. Describe leisure activities. Interpersonal Students express their own thoughts and opinions about familiar topics and elicit the thoughts and opinions of others by using strings of sentences and/or short paragraphs. Interact in a variety of social situations including formal and informal personal exchanges and/or phone inquiries. b.
