a) PowerTeacher: Signing In Open a web browser (Firefox, IE) and enter the IP address of the PowerSchool server followed by /teachers For Example: pschool.nlesd.ca/teachers Click Sign In Enter your username and password in the appropriate text fields

3. PowerTeacher: Navigating the Start Page

a) PowerTeacher: Daily Bulletin Click the Calendar icon and select a date to view a specific daily bulletin. Calendar dates shaded blue have a daily bulletin associated to them. The current date displays a black border and the selected date has no shading. Use the arrow buttons to navigate to a different month. Click Daily Bulletin Click the email address to send a message and/or bulletin item to the creator of the school daily bulletin. For more information, contact your School Administrative team. To close the View Daily Bulletin, click on the x in the upper right hand corner of the pop-up.

b) PowerTeacher: Staff Directory Click Staff Directory The staff directory displays the staff list for your school. Use this function to find interactive email addresses, and phone number(s) for active staff at your school. School Administrators can select the columns to display on this page. For example, some school administrators may or may not decide not to share home phone numbers of staff. The Staff Directory screen can only be viewed by Admin and Teacher users at your school. Parents and students DO NOT have access to this information.

c) PowerTeacher: Personalize Click Personalize Customize PowerTeacher to meet your needs and preferences. Preferences can be changed at any time or you can use the default settings. Change any combination of the settings as often as you want.

c) PowerTeacher: Personalize On the Start Page, click Personalize from the Navigation menu. The Personalize page will appear. Click Change Password to access the change password screen. Password Requirements Enter your Old Password Enter a New Password Verify your New Password Important: Select a new password that you will remember. If you forget it, you cannot sign in to PowerSchool and will have to contact the District PowerSchool. Keep your password secure to prevent unauthorized access to the PowerSchool student database for your school. Best practice is to commit your password to memory. Click Submit

c) PowerTeacher: Personalize On the Start page, click Personalize from the Navigation menu. The Personalize page will appear. Click Default Student Screen. The default student screen is the first page that appears when you open a student record. Select the desired Default Student Screen from the drop down menu. Once you submit, the page you selected becomes the default student screen when you open the student information screen. Click Submit

c) PowerTeacher: Personalize On the Start Page, click Personalize from the Navigation menu. The Personalize page will appear. Click Display Section Number. You must set this preference to display section numbers. To display section numbers, choose Yes from the Display Section Number drop down menu. The section number for each class will appear once you click Submit. You must sign out and sign back in for this change to take place. To remove the section number, choose No. Click Submit

c) PowerTeacher: Reports Select Help to explore the various reports that can be printed. Select Reports to print individual and class reports from the Teacher Portal

4. PowerTeacher: Taking Attendance

PowerTeacher: Attendance Single Day Attendance is unavailable on a day when the course is NOT scheduled. The Chair Icon is inactive. Click the Chair Icon to take Single/Multi Day Class Attendance Click the Grid and Chair Icon to take Seating Chart Attendance Click on the Grid Icon to take Multi Day Attendance, or to take attendance for a student or group of students on a day when a course is NOT scheduled.

a) PowerTeacher: Single Day Attendance When Attendance is selected using the Chair Icon, the default tab is Single Day. Use the tabs to switch to any Meeting Attendance view. Select the desired Attendance Code from the drop down menu. The default code is Present. Select the Date for which attendance needs to be taken. Click in the Attendance box to set the desired Attendance Code for individual students. Click Submit Important: If a teacher DOES NOT submit attendance, inaccurate attendance will be displayed on both the Admin and Parent Portals. As well, it will appear to Admin Users that attendance has not been taken.

a) PowerTeacher: Single Day Attendance Important: If a teacher DOES NOT submit attendance, inaccurate attendance will be displayed on both the Admin and Parent Portals. As well, it will appear to Admin Users that attendance has not been taken. Attendance defaults to the Present Code. The input of Attendance is real time for ALL PowerSchool users. This includes School Administrators, Secretaries, Teachers, Parents and Students.

a) PowerTeacher: Single Day Attendance Note: Class sections that meet more than once a day display a drop down menu next to the Single Day Chair Icon. Select the specific period in which to record or change attendance. The dot next to each class indicates Attendance Status: A clear dot indicates attendance has not been submitted. A yellow dot indicates partial attendance has been has been submitted. A green dot indicates attendance has been submitted.

b) PowerTeacher: Multi Day Attendance Select the Multi Day Grid Icon next to the class for which you want to record attendance. Please Note: If you are already on the Attendance page, select the Multi Day tab.

b) PowerTeacher: Multi Day Attendance Click Edit to select the date from the options provided. Select Range and then enter the date range for which you want to enter attendance. Use one of the following methods to enter an attendance code(s): Click in the field next to the student s name to enter the Attendance Code you selected from the drop down menu. Use the drop down menu to select a different attendance code if needed. Double-click in a field and select the code from the drop down menu. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll through the list. Click in a field and type the attendance code directly in the field.

b) PowerTeacher: Multi Day Attendance Click Submit. When an Attendance Code is entered, a comment icon appears. Click the icon to enter an attendance comment in the Edit Comments box. Enter attendance comment(s) and then Click OK

c) PowerTeacher: Seating Chart Attendance On the Current Classes page, click the Seating Chart Icon next to the class for which you want to take attendance. Substitute teachers will have the same option in the PowerSchool Sub Portal. This may be a beneficial tool that classroom teachers could highlight in lesson plans created for Substitute Teachers.

c) PowerTeacher: Seating Chart Attendance The Seating Chart provides you with a graphical representation of your entire classroom. You can design multiple layouts to help you manage your classroom. Using these layouts, you can record attendance, or use the Random Student Selector to help you call on different students during class discussions. You can also combine different layouts in order to take attendance for different sections..

c) PowerTeacher: Seating Chart Attendance You can enter attendance directly on the Seating Chart for a single day. Attendance can be recorded for students who appear on the Seating Chart, and those who are in the Student Selection bar if the student is eligible to have attendance recorded.

c) PowerTeacher: Seating Chart Attendance Select the Attendance Code Select the date. Click on a student photo, and the code selected from the Attendance Code drop down menu automatically displays on the student photo.

c) PowerTeacher: Seating Chart Attendance When an Attendance Code is entered, a Comment Icon appears. Click the icon to enter an Attendance Comment on the Edit Comments pop-up. Click OK to enter the comment for the student s attendance record. When finished entering attendance and comments, click Submit.

5. PowerTeacher: Student Information

PowerTeacher: Student Information On the Current Classes page, click the Student Information Icon (backpack) next to the class for which you want to view student information. After clicking the backpack icon the Student Information page will appear with the selected class roster displayed in the navigation menu. This document will highlight some of the Student Screens. It will be helpful to explore all Student Screens as you begin to use PowerTeacher.

a) PowerTeacher: Quick Lookup Use the student information drop down menu to view a variety of student data as well as log necessary information. This is the Student Information Page with the selected class roster displayed in the navigation menu. Click the Last Name of the student whose record you want to view.

a) PowerTeacher: Quick Lookup The Student Information page has the selected class roster displayed in the navigation menu. Click the Last Name of the student whose record you want to view. The student information displays the default page previously selected This is the student Quick Lookup Screen. This student screen can be seen by School Admin, Teachers, Parents and Students. This is one of the most beneficial student screens for communicating academic progress and attendance to all stakeholders. To choose a different student screen make a selection from the drop down menu.

a) PowerTeacher: Quick Lookup Click the final percent scores to display grades per assignment. To view the assignments and their scores that comprise the final grades for a term, click the score in the appropriate term column. This is an email link to the teacher. This is accessible to all users. Click any absences or tardies to display details on the Dates of Attendance page. By clicking on the total number of Absences you can get a full Attendance report on for individual students.

b) PowerTeacher: Demographics The Demographics View is a view-only page that provides standard student information fields, including home address, phone, and parent or guardian contact information. On the Student Information page, choose Demographics from the Select screens drop down menu. The Demographics page appears. Click on the Guardian Email link to open your default email client and send an email message to the designated guardian for the selected student. If this field is not populated in the PowerSchool Admin Portal you will not have access to the interactive parent/guardian email link.

c) PowerTeacher: Submit Log Entry Use log entries to create a record regarding a student's behaviour, performance, or activity. Many schools use this feature to log discipline concerns. Log entries can also be used to record students' positive achievements. Regardless of your reason for creating the log entry, the system immediately sends the log entry to the PowerSchool server, where it is stored in the student's permanent record. Only authorized staff members can modify or delete the log entry. Your school administration will receive this log entry via an email. On the Student Information page, choose Submit Log Entry from the Select screens pop-up menu. The Submit Log Entry page appears. Enter a title for the log entry in the Subject field. Enter the log entry text in the Log Entry field. Click Submit

d) PowerTeacher: Meeting Attendance In PowerSchool, your school can track meeting attendance. Students' meeting attendance records indicate their absences and tardies in ALL class periods during the school day. Use the Meeting Attendance function to view a student's attendance record. Each column represents one week, with the days of the week (MTWThF). Attendance codes are noted in the chart under each day. In the case of meeting attendance, the days without a code indicate that the student was present. On the Student Information page, choose Meeting Attendance from the Select screens drop down menu.

e) PowerTeacher: Net Access Summary Use this view-only page to track the number of times a parent, guardian, or student logs in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The Summary page displays how many times a family has checked on the student's progress, the date of each sign in and you can determine how much time they spent reviewing the portal. On the Student Information page, choose Net Access Information from the Select drop down menu.
