Introduction This document is a detailed comparison between NEO and, taking under consideration the features, functionality, and cost of each platform. NEO is a word-class, award-winning learning management system (LMS) for schools and universities. NEO helps schools manage all classroom activities, such as creating and delivering educational content, assessing students, tracking their results, and promoting communication and collaboration between students and teachers/faculty. NEO is a product of CYPHER LEARNING, a company that specializes in providing learning platforms for organizations around the world. is a cloud-hosted social learning platform designed for K-12 audiences.

User interface The NEO interface has a modern, responsive design that looks sharp and automatically adjusts based on the type of device. It provides attractive tile-based dashboards for students, teachers and administrators, a graphical class catalog, as well as simple pop-out navigation. Many features can be enabled or disabled to suit young children through to college students. It provides rich content authoring as well as a visually attractive way to create and organize lesson material. NEO offers native mobile apps for ios, Android and Windows. The interface is simple and resembles a Facebook page, from its color scheme to its layout and notifications system. Its primary view is an activity feed, with rudimentary support for content in the form of folders. Depending on each school s individual needs, this can be either a good or a bad thing since some organizations prefer to be able to customize their interface with their own logo, color scheme, turn on/off different features, and more.

Ease of use NEO is very intuitive and easy to use. In addition, it includes an online help center, with videos, getting started guides, and searchable help content. NEO also has a rapid response support forum where staff members typically respond to questions within 15-30 minutes during business hours 24/5. is easy to use and includes a help center, tutorials and a support forum.

Features NEO provides the range of functionality you'd expect in a modern LMS, such as support for classes (instructor led, blended, self-paced, and micro learning), twelve kinds of assignments, full-featured gradebook, content authoring, beautiful lesson layouts, gamification, automation, learning paths, drip content, adaptive learning, mastery and competencies (including US common core standards and Next Generation Science Standards), question banks, class templates, rubrics, collaboration tools, resources catalog, a customizable portal, and more.

NEO supports many important industry standards such as SCORM, Common Cartridge Format, LTI, QTI and LDAP. We also integrate with a wide variety of systems, including Google Drive, G Suite, Office 365, OneDrive, Calendars (ical), Turnitin, Zapier, GoToMeeting, Zoom, WebEx, SIS, Equella, and more. provides activity feeds, with features that allows teachers to create groups for their students, share posts, documents, and simple assignments. It includes a rudimentary grade book and badges for students. also has the Snapshot tool, their system for quizzing common core proficiencies and Spotlight - a center for uploading and sharing teaching resources (still in beta mode). However, lacks a built-in authoring tool, powerful gamification, automation, among other important features.

Here is a list of key features included in NEO that does not support: User Interface Customizable portal catalog Branded mobile apps Graphical dashboards Customizable terminology Automatic translation of Graphical class catalog Support for more than Graphical resources 40 languages messages and forum posts Accessibility features Content Built-in content authoring Compliance Waitlists Drip content Micro learning Class ratings and reviews Automation Adaptive learning Seating charts Gamification Certificates of completion Learning paths Prerequisite certificates Assignments Personalized assignments Built-in reports, custom debates, surveys, team SCORM and LTI assignments reports, and scheduled assignments, and more Powerful gradebook reports Assignment types such as

Cost NEO has a free plan and charges about $6 per student per year for its Small school plan and $7 per student per year for its Enterprise plan. There are no setup fees, cancellation fees, storage fees, bandwidth fees, support fees, or other hidden costs. Note that these prices cannot be simply compared, since the NEO Small school and Enterprise plans contain a great amount of functionality that is not provided by. For example, a larger school would normally require features such as a full-featured gradebook, a wide selection of assignment types, rubrics, built-in content authoring, support for self-paced classes, SCORM integration, advanced reporting and analytics, etc. and would most likely also need to purchase an LMS. has a free plan and charges around $2,500 per year for schools as part of their premium plan. There is an additional charge for items such as Sync or Training.

Summary This was a comparison of the most important features between NEO and. Schools that adopt NEO as their LMS get an all-in-one integrated solution. functions more like a social networking website for a K-12 audience which could be a downside for schools that require a more powerful LMS. While both systems offer a free plan, NEO includes many more features at the free and premium plan level. If you require additional information on NEO, please contact us at sales@cypherlearning.com. www.neolms.com This comparison was written in April 2018 based on publicly available documentation on both vendors sites.
