Revision how you can support your child How should I structure my revision? What is revision? Revision is re-viewing information you have already learned They need to understand the information and memorise it for the exam What is the aim of my revision? What is the aim of revision? The aim is to make a series of key points relating to a subject They need key points, phrases or words to prompt them to remember the information stored in their brains They should aim to have a card of A4 sheet with the key points for each topic or sub-topic What can I do to revise? How should they structure their revision? Have an aim for the revision session e.g. by the end of this session I want to be able to answer questions on Break topics down into chunks Identify what they need to spend more time on and what they already know pretty well Make notes with key points, phrases or words Test themselves Have a tick list so that they can see their progress Look over their notes regularly 4

What can they do to revise? Utilise the booklet and information given to them on the revision drop day conducted by Learning Performance. More resources can be downloaded from their website www.learningperformance.com/the-learning-lab Put revision aids around the house i.e. posters on the wall Let them teach you what they have learnt Use pictures to associate with keywords Use Mnemonics making a rhyme or story from the first letters Read a page shut the book, make notes on what they can remember Highlight key points in notes or books Make spider diagrams Record themselves reading their notes and play it back as they go around their daily chores Put revision aids around the house Record yourself saying key points Ask parents and friends to test you 5

Revision activities and resources Supervise your child whilst they carry out the following activities for 25 mins at a time following the Pomodoro method. Maths: Login to Hegarty Maths at hegartymaths.com and complete tasks Practise questions from revision book Write down equations from memory Re-do exam questions they got wrong English Language: Memorise the steps for answering each of the reading questions Read an unseen source (e.g. the opening of a range of novels, the opinion sections of newspaper websites; Guardian, the Times, Huffington Post, read transcripts of famous speeches) and pick out persuasive techniques Pick out interesting vocabulary and look up meanings Use teacher feedback to practise up-levelling exam responses English Literature: Revise quotations Re-read key scenes focusing on a theme Make a context sheet for each text containing specific facts about the historical time period and the writers Make a poster or mind map on one character or one theme Write essay plans on practise questions and write an introduction Science: Login to My GCSE Science at mygcsescience.com and watch the videos Read through one topic in the revision guide and make notes on it Practise exam questions Revise and test yourself on formulae and equations French and Spanish: Listen to French songs/films/radio stations Practise exam papers and questions Use Active Pearson and Memrise Use resources on Google Classroom 6

P.E.: Take time to visit Google Classroom, then go through a PowerPoint and write down any information that you are not secure on List components of fitness, write out definitions from memory, use full sentences to say how they are particularly important for a chosen sport Same as above for all other topics e.g. balanced diet Give your KO to a family member. Ask them to question you on the definitions. Chose a topic e.g. and draw a mind map on that topic. How much info was missing (check KOs) Search web for questions on GCSE PE EDEXCEL 1-9 spec.
