Term 1, Week 6, 1st March, 2016 Principal s Message Dear Parents & Carers, MARCH 2 School Swimming 4 Mass Yr 3 & 1 9 School Swimming 11 SWIMMING CARNIVAL 15 SCHOOL PHOTOS 18 St. Joseph s Feast Day Mass 21 Holy Week One of our goals for 2016 is to create a common language of learning at St Joseph s so that students are able to articulate what they are learning and how they are going with their learning. Teachers will also be using Learning Intentions and Success Criteria so that students are aware of their progress towards learning goals and are able to confidently answer our 5 Key Learner Questions - What are you learning? How are you going with that learning? How do you know? How can you improve / What are the next steps in your learning? Where can you go to get help? Finally teachers will be administering Literacy Monitoring Tools as a means to gather data that will provide feedback about student learning and the impact of their teaching. This includes a writing task in Years 3 6 and Concepts about Print, Letter Sound Knowledge and PM Benchmark for Prep Year 2. ADMIN TEAM MEETING: Tracey Gerrard and I last week attended a two-day North Schools Administration Teams cluster meeting. These days are organised by Brisbane Catholic Education and aim at keeping leadership teams updated, regarding issues, system and Government priorities and developments in preparation for the year. We also spent time together refining and finalising our school goals and priorities for this year. Many thanks Mr Mulcahy for taking on the role as Acting Principal. 24 Liturgies 24 Last Day Term 1 YEAR FIVE / SIX LEADERS: The Year 5/6 students began their Leadership preparations with a Leadership Formation Day last Thursday. This provided them with an opportunity to explore the meaning of servant leadership, to set themselves some goals for this year and to delve into some of the strengths they possess. I look forward to seeing our Year 5/6 students displaying some of the things they learnt from the day and being good role models for other students in our school. SWIMMING CARNIVAL Next Friday, 11th March we will hold our swimming carnival at Murgon Swimming Pool. Our whole school will be attending the carnival on the day. The swimming carnival is the culminating activity of the four week swimming program that has been running throughout Term 1. Have a great week everyone, Greg Cran Principal

APRE News A Message a Day, Can Change a Child s Way. Thank you to the Faith Committee Group and Br Tim for introducing and showing us the Project Compassion videos each week, which help us understand the plight of others. Caritas Australia has reflected on stories and developed resources that classes use to help students become more aware of those communities, who are changed by the generosity of others. The following link provides further information about project compassion. www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion. A Message a Day, Can Change a Child s way, is the focus at St Joseph s School, which is encouraging us to remember those in need and to give to the Project Compassion appeal. For each $5 the class raises, they place a heart on the Helping Heart Wall in the office. Each heart says, We Are Changing a Child s Way. Let s see how many hearts we can get onto our Helping Hearts Wall. Our Faith Committee collect the Project Compassion boxes each week and calculate the money. The calculated amount so far is $76.90, so remember Lent is about giving up and giving. Let us try to continue to give up one of your treats and donate the money to those less fortunate than us. Chocolate Crackle Fundraiser!. Please support our Faith Committee with the sale of Chocolate Crackles. An order form was sent home last Friday and the money from the sale of these will support Project Compassion. If you need an additional form, please see the office. Mass: This week Year 1 & 3 will be leading Mass. This will be on Friday 4 th March at 9:30. It would be lovely to see parents, grandparents and carers join us for Mass. World Prayer Day - Receive Children, Receive Me World Prayer Day is 4 th March. Praying for the disadvantaged children of the world. Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Mark 10:14 Please keep in your prayers, members of our St Joseph s community who are experiencing sadness or who are struggling with illness. When we are faced with difficulties it is the comfort and prayers of our community that support us and hold us in love. Adopt-a-Cop Meet Constable Christie Turner, St Joseph s Adopt-a-Cop. Our Prep s were fortunate last Friday to spend some time with Constable Christie, who not only talked about her role as a Police Officer, but also the behaviour choices the children should be making. She reminded the students about not taking other people s things and that items belonging to the school, must not be taken home. Parents can support St Joseph s and Constable Christie, by reinforcing the correct behaviour choices and returning any items that may find their way into your homes. Thank you Constable Christie for spending time in our school. God Bless Tracey Gerrard APRE
