College of Applied Science and Technology STUDENT RECOGNITION AWARDS April 28, 2015 Mistress of Ceremonies: Elizabeth Kennedy Interim Associate Dean Welcome: Todd Rickle Vice Provost and Executive Dean Created in 1964, the Community and Technical College (C&T), became the technical and applied, associate and baccalaureate degreegranting unit at The University of Akron through which thousands of people launched their careers. In 2004, the college reorganized, expanded, and adopted the name, Summit College. The 2014-2015 academic year marks yet more new and exciting beginnings for the college. In July of 2014, the Board of Trustees approved the College s request to be called, the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST). In March of this year, CAST was pleased to welcome new leadership under our Executive Dean and Vice Provost, Dr. Todd Rickel. Today the College of Applied Science and Technology remains the primary pathway for students seeking technical and applied careers. CAST offers approximately 28 associate degree programs, 11 bachelor s degree programs, many certificate programs and a variety of professional development opportunities. Currently there are over 3,500 students enrolled, many of whom are working on multiple degrees while earning minors and certificates along the way. CAST is composed of four academic departments: Applied General and Technical Studies Business and Information Technology Engineering and Science Technology Public Service Technology
