CTE Credits ACCOUNTING 1 Deer Valley Online Learning Program Course Offerings & Descriptions This course is designed to help students understand basic accounting principles and procedures. Students will learn and apply the accounting concepts necessary for financial record keeping and decision-making in a small business using computers, industry software, and real-world activities. Topics include careers in accounting, the importance of ethics, and working with business transactions. This is a semester class. The students will use Microsoft Office and Dreamweaver for word processing, desktop publishing, multi-media presentations and web design. This is a semester class. Prerequisite: completed a PE core class. COMMUNICATION This class is an overall introduction into the study of communication that includes the theory and practice of communication skills. Some units include the process of communication, influence of perception and self-concept in human communication, strength and weakness of verbal communication, influence of nonverbal communication, characteristics of active listening, impact of inter-cultural communication, small group behavior, and public speaking. CREATIVE WRITING This course is for the student who loves to write. Course emphasis will be on creative and original writings including short stories, poems, and drama. This is a semester class. Prerequisite: Placement Criteria LAW IN SOCIETY This course studies the American legal system and the problems and issues it encounters. Topics include criminal law, civil law, juvenile law, family law, consumer law, and environmental law. This is a semester class.

PSYCHOLOGY Students will explore such topics as human growth and development, the development of personality and intelligence, principles of learning, frustration and conflict, and personality disturbances and their treatment. SOCIOLOGY This course is for students who are interested in studying problems and issues in today s society. Subject matter will explore family, race relations, crime, religion, sex roles, dating, law, death, and other human interactions. The course requires reading and special projects. Fine Arts Credits 2 DIMENSIONAL DESIGN DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY 1 This course will serve students who want to explore photography as an art form, and for those interested in creative careers. Advanced students will have an opportunity to submit their portfolios in AP Studio Art 2D Design. No pre-requisite.
