Super JAM Camp Group Leader information 1

WELCOME! We are so glad you chose to come to Super JAM this summer. We hope this information packet will be helpful in your camp planning. WHAT IS Super JAM? Youth who have completed grades 7-12 (grade 6 if the child is considered a part of the church youth group) will discover and develop the creative gifts that G od has given them to serve Him. They can take classes to expand their knowledge of something with which they are already familiar or to try something new. C lasses include art, happy hands club (signing), acoustic guitar, keyboard, ukulele, drum set, world drumming, black light (worship expression using gloved hands in a black light), photography, bass guitar, video, worship band, balloon art, worship leading, ProPresent (worship presentation software, and programming keyboards. COST $215 if paid in full by May 27 $250 if paid in full by June 13 *Registration includes a $50 non-refundable deposit REGISTRATION DEADLINE Participants must register online by Friday, June 25 or a $20 late fee will be applied *Registration is not complete until the final balance has been paid Students and Adult Volunteers should register online at www.scbi.org/events/students/superjesus-arts-music-camp. Medical Release Forms are to be completed online during the registration process. Every participant must complete a Medical Release Form. All Adult Volunteers will need to complete an Adult Volunteer Form that is also available in the registration portal. ***Adult volunteers without completed Volunteer Screening Forms will not be permitted to attend Super JAM. This policy is to ensure the safety and security of SCBI camp where children 18 and under are present. How Many Adult Volunteer Chaperones Does a Church Need to Provide? The required student to adult ratio is as follows: In order to provide the best atmosphere and supervision, we ask that all groups bring one male sponsor for every 1 to 7 boys and one female sponsor for every 1 to 7 girls. If you have more than 7 you will need to provide more sponsors. If your group is unable to provide a particular sponsor, please call the state convention office at 317-481-2400 extension 246. Refund Policy SCBI has your group s safety in mind as we host events. Even in the event of extreme weather conditions, deposits cannot be refunded. If an event is hosted as scheduled and your group 2

cancels or reduces numbers due to weather conditions, all payments are non-refundable. The only exceptions to this are in the event of the death of a family member, personal health issues in which medical emergency treatment must be sought or personal jury duty. ON-SITE REGISTRATION CHECK IN Registration is June 12 from 1-3 at the Welcome Center. (Follow signs once you arrive at camp.) When your group arrives, the Group Leader should go to the Welcome Center where he/she will receive nametags, shirts and cabin assignments for the group. Campers and additional volunteers should proceed to the nurse station for lice check, turn in medicine and then proceed to cabins to get settled. *All medications (prescription and non-prescription) should be brought by adults or students (original container must be placed in a Ziploc bag labeled with camper s name and church, along with the proper dosing schedule) to the registration area upon arrival. The camp nurse will be there to receive those medications. 3

The camp entrance is four miles south of Monrovia or four miles north of State Highway 67. Take Interstate I-70 to exit 59 (14 miles west of the I-70 and I-465 exchange at the Indianapolis Airport). Take State Road 39 south six miles. Highway 39 makes a jog at the intersection in Monrovia. The camp entrance is on the left 1/2 mile south of the white water tower. CAMP LEADERSHIP CAMP DIRECTOR Steve Blanchard Steve Blanchard serves as the Worship Ministry Coordinator for the State Convention of Baptists in Indiana. He also serves as a Church Planting Catalyst for the East Region of Indiana. CAMP PASTOR Bill McCrary Bill was baptized as a young teenager but never knew the Lord as his Savior. At the age of 18 he realized he had never made a commitment to Christ and gave his heart to the Lord in repentance. It was a short time later that Bill felt God calling him into the ministry. Bill has been preaching for 41 years. He has been a pastor for 39 years in Indiana and Tennessee. He taught in Kenya for 5 years and is now a professor at Bethany divinity college and seminary in Dothan, Alabama. He has done mission work in Mexico, Kenya and the U.S. He enjoys working with people of all ages and loves serving the Lord in His work. WORSHIP The Pointe Worship Band The Pointe is one of Fort Wayne s largest churches. They have grown from their inception just a little over 10 years ago to the place where they have developed a dynamic ministry to every age group. Their primary worship team will be leading daily worship for the campers as well as teaching classes that campers can attend. LEADER MEETING - There will be a leader meeting while the kids are in their opening meeting. This will cover important details for the week 5

There will also be a meeting each day to check in and give you important updates. One leader from each cabin is asked to attend this meeting each day. TALENT SHOW On Friday night we will have a talent show. Kids will have the chance to show their singing, dancing, drama, joke telling or whatever their talent may be. Kids are encouraged to bring their instrument, music or whatever they need for their talent. This will be limited to two minutes per kid. CLASSES Please be aware that several classes require that campers bring items to participate in the class. You do not need to be prepared to teach just to help the teacher in any way they need. During the counselor meeting you will be given an opportunity to sign up for a class to help with. PERSONAL FREE TIME Please be aware that you are to know where your kids are throughout the week. When they have free time you must be with your kids, that is not your free time. You may have time to yourself throughout the day when the kids are in classes (if it is not a class you have chosen to help with). QUIET TIME DEVOTIONS Every evening you will have a half an hour to wind down with the campers in your cabin. Take this time and find out how their day was and pray together. Take cues from their morning devotion material and the camp pastors daily message. DRESS CODE Make sure your students do NOT pack anything that: Advertises alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs Explicitly or implicitly promotes racism, sexism, or hatred of any group or person Explicitly or implicitly refers to sexual actions or situations Has spaghetti straps, except for sleepwear/swimwear Is excessively short or tight fitting. 6

While at camp, we ask that students: Wear modest, one-piece bathing suits or two-piece suits covered with a dark colored t-shirt. Dress modestly Do not dress in a way that calls attention to underwear (sagging your pants, rolling down your waistbands, etc.) *We invite you to join us as leaders in monitoring your group to ensure students are dressing appropriately. WHAT TO BRING Linens, towels, pillows, blankets or sleeping bag Water bottle that you can refill and carry with you Closed-toe, closed-heel shoes (for outdoor activities) Swimming suit (one piece or tankini that doesn t show belly), flip flops, beach towel, cover-up for the pool Bible, notepad, and pen Toiletries such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, etc., sun protection Spending money for snacks, camp store, and missions offering (optional) DO NOT BRING alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, fireworks, water guns, or any kind of weapon DAMAGES Please be aware that your group is personally responsible for damages to any facilities including but not limited to the cabin your group occupies. 7
