Date: Monday, August 7, 2017 Hello, I am Mrs. Jones-Howard. I have the honor of serving as your child s 7 th grade Social Studies Teacher. I am excited to be part of my new home at and the Whitehaven Empowerment Zone. I have great expectations for this school year and your child s academic success. I have come to Havenview with 15 years as an educator. I have a Bachelor s Degree in History and a Master s Degree in Education. I am certified and highly qualified in my content area. Despite my qualifications, it is not possible to do this alone. I am looking for parental support and assistance to help develop your child s skills and strengthen his/her opportunities for excellence. In order to do this, I am asking for parent participation to encourage your child to be on their best behavior and do their work at home and in the classroom. Rules, Policies, and Procedures Behavioral Expectations Classroom Rules 1. Follow directions the first time they are given. 2. Enter the classroom quietly and quickly sit in your assigned seat. 3. Bring all necessary materials and appropriate work to each class. 4. Raise your hand and receive permission from teacher before speaking or standing. 5. Makeup work will be available in the Absent Work Bin. It is the student s responsibility to get any missed work and completed the Makeup Work Form. The student will be provide one day per day missed to complete missed work. Late Work / Projects can be accepted at the discretion of the teacher. Student will lose points for late work. Tutoring Tutoring Sessions will be held on Tuesdays of each week from 2:45-3:30. This will be an opportunity for additional assistance, re-testing, and help with makeup work. Students will need to sign up for tutoring on Monday to take note home to parents/guardians.

Classroom Procedures Entering the classroom Wait for the teacher to direct students to enter the room Discard any food, drink, or chewing gum before entering the room Enter the classroom with minimum noise. Go directly your assigned seat and begin Bellwork. Tardiness / Attendance All late students must sign in on the Tardy log before entering the room. If a student is tardy, he/she will NOT be allowed to exit back out of the room. Three class tardies will result in parental contact Sharpening the pencils Sharpen pencils within the First Five minutes of class (only two at the same time) After designated time, student have to use non-mechanical personal sharpener Hall Pass Use First 15 minutes and Last 15 minutes, no student may exit the classroom With permission, student sign out on the appropriate hall pass log, then teacher will provide the pass. Heading / Movement of Paper (Class Assignment) Always write your first and last name, date, and assignment title on your paper Pencil Down no writing or making corrections while papers are being collected Paper Distribution and Collection: If papers are in a sheet protector, do not write on the handout. Write on your own paper. When collecting paper, pass papers to the front of the row and over to the right/left depending on the location. Or Turn in paper into specific class period collection holder Noise Levels Students will follow all noise requirements for Level 0 Level 3 (Posted on front wall) Whole group instruction Raise your hand to ask and/or answer questions Remain seated unless otherwise instructed Remain ON-TASK at all times no disruptive noises or behavior Group Procedures Students will be assigned into groups Students will arrange their desk in groups by standing and slightly picking the desk up Leaving the classroom Remain in your seat until the teacher dismisses you. Make sure the classroom is neat and clean Collect and take all belonging with you. Each row stands and exits according to instructions Exit classroom with minimum noise. Preceding through the hallway Quietly walk on the right side of the hallway Stop at the door when you reach your destination
