St Mary s School Warwick Newsletter 23rd February 2017 Term 1 Week 5 Dear Parents and Caregivers, Formal Uniform to be worn Tuesday & Wednesday of next week (week 6) by all children in Year 1 to Year 6 Important for next week Parent/Teacher Interviews Monday Formation Workshop Sacrament of Reconciliation 3.30pm Tuesday Visit by Josh Arnold Ash Wednesday Visit by Josh Arnold Ash Wednesday Mass Years 3 to 6, 9.00am Ash Wednesday Liturgy Prep to Year 2, 11.30am Darling Downs Swimming for 10 12 yrs Yesterday we farewelled our Year Six students on the annual Year Six School Leader camp. They were accompanied by Miss Rutledge, Mrs Dearden, Mrs Kern, Mr Brad Doyle, Mrs Standing and Mrs Grew. The children will participate in Caving, Body Boarding, Ten Pin Bowling, Team Challenges, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Catapults, Circus Skills and Servant Leadership. There is no doubt they will come back with many great stories of friendship and fun, albeit a little tired. The opportunity to participate in a school camp allows children to grow. At times they may be challenged with activities they may never have done before; they may be challenged to work with other children they may not usually work with; new friendships can be formed; and parents see just a little change in resilience, courage, persistence, understanding, acceptance, patience and many great values we aspire to have. Our You Can Do It programme supports 5 keys of success: Getting Along, Organisation, Persistence, Confidence and Resilience. Active engagement in the Year Six camp will allow the children to further develop these characteristics in light of the children s last year of primary schooling. Dear Jesus, sometimes I become very discouraged; I become worried and I become anxious. Everything I try seems to fail. Fill my heart with confidence, with a great love of you. Help me to realise that in times of doubt and difficulty, I am being challenged to become the best person I can be. Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Noting can be done without hope and confidence. (Helen Keller) When we come to judge the success of our lives, we will ask but three questions: How much did I love? What good did I cause? How many did I forgive? Have a wonderful week. RE News Sacramental Preparation 2017 The Sacrament of Reconciliation Workshop 3 Focus Forgiveness - Week beginning 20 th February. God gives me the strength to choose how I respond to the graces given in Baptism. I can choose to love people and grow closer to God or choices to pull people down and grow distant from God and my faith family. The call to repentance and reconciliation, taking responsibility for our sins and making peace, are at the heart of the Christian message. 1 st RECONCILIATION Candidates for 1 st Reconciliation will celebrate this Healing Sacrament at St Mary s Church 7pm Thursday 16 th March 2017 Please Pray for all candidates and their families. Income generated by school fees is a vital part of the provision of quality teaching and learning programs at St Mary s School. Visiting Musician Josh Arnold Last week, we were very privileged to have world renowned singer and songwriter, Josh Arnold, work with the Year 5 and Year 6 classes as well as the choir members from Year 4 and Year3. The purpose of the visit is to produce a song about our school, accompanied by dance moves and actions executed by the students. We are extremely excited about this production which will be available on Youtube, when recording has been completed. This year we celebrate 150yrs of Catholic Education in Warwick. This production is a wonderful way to mark this very important occasion. Josh will return to St Mary s next Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 1 March for recording and filming. He aims to include all students in part of this recording. Students in Prep, Year1, Year2, Year3 and Year4 have received a form which must be completed and signed and returned to the school. This will indicate that you are happy for your son/daughter to be in group filming on those days. Please note:- All students must wear formal uniform next Tuesday 28 February and on Wednesday 1 March. Protecting your children online Kirsty Moore Senior Constable Warwick District Crime Prevention Coordinator has provided helpful tips for parents in keeping children safe online. There will be a tip each week. You can help keep your children safe online using basic strategies: Do your own research on the age ratings for the games and apps your child uses so you can make your own determination on age appropriateness and suitability. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent Teacher interviews commence next week (Week 6). All parents/caregivers are actively encouraged to participate in these conversations. Parents/caregivers who have not returned forms nor been given a meeting time should contact their child s teacher to make a time. The opportunity to have a face to face meeting with your child s teacher is an important part of positive and proactive communication between the school and home.
