ST JOSEPH S PRIMARY SCHOOL TRAFALGAR Independent, collaborative And innovative learners 17 th March 2017 No:3 58 Waterloo Road, Trafalgar 3824 Ph. 03 56331151 E: office@trafalgar.catholic.edu.au Website: www.trafalgar.catholic.edu.au We continue to pray for our students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time last night. May we all feel God s peace in our hearts

Dear Families Last night we celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation with our Gr 3 children. It was a beautiful liturgy and we all felt privileged to be part of it. I would like to thank the parents for supporting your children in their faith journey and I would like to thank Fr Bernie and the teachers, in particular, Lucy O Connell and Janet Poelsma, for guiding us all in this program. We pray that with God s help, we will all continue to feel and celebrate peace in our families. School Photos Remember school photos are on Monday 20 th March. Please wear full summer uniform. Photo envelopes need to be returned with the correct money in it on Monday. Family photo envelopes are available from the office. Cooking with Rosie is going to continue, yeah! Rosie Romano is happy to run cooking classes once again this year on Wednesday afternoons. She will start with the Gr 3/4 class this Wednesday 22 nd March. Rosie would love some parent helpers please. So if you are able to help, could you let Rosie know 0439344928. Or if you have an excess of food for example, lemons or vegetables, if you let Rosie know she may be able to use it in our cooking. If you are able to donate eggs, that too would be helpful. St Joseph s Kitchen Rules! The Life Education Van will visit our school next week. It will arrive Wednesday after school and will be parked in our schoolyard for a few days. Each class will have a scheduled visit to the van. The program costs $5 per student and this is covered by grade levies. Young Leaders Day This year our Grade 6 students have the exciting opportunity of attending a leadership conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre on Monday 27 th March. We will travel to and from Melbourne on the train. The conference explores leadership skills and aims to help our students become great leaders in our school. We look forward to some positive action from this day. Parents & Friends (P & F) AGM On Wednesday 29 th March we are having our Annual General Meeting at school at 7pm with Pizza and Wine. The P & F group do incredible work within our school and it is rewarding being part of this active group. It is also a great way to get to know other parents in our community. If you are interested in being part of this group and you are not able to be at the AGM, please feel welcome to let me know or contact Lauren Francis (our President) directly. Camping Program We are still in the process of reviewing our whole school camping program. Many parents have given input into this process and I welcome your positive suggestions. Our leadership group is discerning the suggestions. The next step will be to show staff the various options. Our Foundation students enjoyed their camps program last Wednesday and our Gr 1 students will have their program Thursday 30 th March from 3.30 to 6pm. More information will follow for these families. School Athletics Carnival Friday 31 st March at Joe Carmody Track. An information note has already gone out about this day. We need and appreciate your help for this day. A meeting has been organised for Thursday the 23 rd March at 9am. We look forward to an exciting and eventful day! Safety Procedures Please find attached to this newsletter a letter from our Director of Catholic Education, Mrs Maria Kirkwood, encouraging volunteers in our schools, with a focus of implementing the child safe standards. Please also find attached, the first part of Fr Bernie s address to our parish community on the findings of the Royal Commission into Child Abuse. Fr Bernie delivered this address over two weekends at our parish masses. This address is also available in its entirety on our web site at www.trafalgar.catholic.edu.au. I recommend that you find the time to read it. Thank you Fr Bernie for your continued work and guidance in our community. May God continue to bless and guide us. We are all so pleased for you all. Thank you to all parents who have assisted their children in uploading the Pic Collage App onto their IPads for use in the Art Room. The students are very busy creating their learning journeys of their artworks using Pic Collage. It is a free App, so if any students have not yet uploaded it onto their IPads it would be much appreciated if parents could assist their children to do so before next Tuesday. The students in yrs 2-6 have nearly completed their Picasso style self-portraits and students in F - Yr 1 completed their Vincent Van Gogh 'Starry starry night pictures' last Tuesday. Next, they explore the art of creating a daffodil picture in the same style as Vincent Van Gogh. These art works will soon be on display in the Art Room so please drop in and see them with your children when you have a moment. They are very proud of their artworks and enjoy the moment to talk about them with family members.

It is wonderful to see students working on artistic creations at home. This week Sheridan Jacobs and Layla Sloan have both brought their creations in for the class to view. Sheridan made a beautiful Bear complete with tutu for her young cousin, following on from her teddy bear art classes at school last year and Layla made a variety of things as she is very focussed on her drawing and painting skills. Well done to both girls.
