TRANSFER STUDENTS/CREDIT TRANSFER IMI recognises credits earned at other accredited universities or hotel schools, hence transfer students are welcome. SCHOLARSHIPS AND PRESTIGE AWARDS Academic scholarships are granted based on outstanding academic performance. For details, please contact the Registrar on registration@imiluzern.com TUITION FEE The following items are included in the tuition fee: All class materials and handouts, core textbooks, teaching materials, access to Moodle - IMI s virtual learning environment, professional and cultural excursions, extensive academic guidance, guaranteed internship opportunities, sourcing graduate placement opportunities in permanent positions for BA, MSc and MBA students, personalised career coaching and on-campus recruitment, industry presentations and examiner fees. REGISTRATION FEE In addition to tuition fees, students must pay a registration fee: CHF 2 800 for all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, CHF 1 440 for the University English Preparatory Programmes (UEPP 1-4) and CHF 480 for the Pre-Sessional English Courses (PSEC 1-3). The registration fee is payable for every semester of study; however, returing students only pay CHF 2,500 for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The registration fee includes: registration documents, residence permit, compulsory health and accident insurance during the academic semester, tie or scarf for Certificate to Higher Diploma, kitchen uniforms for European Culinary Management, kitchen shoes (for Diploma and for European Culinary Management), federal taxes, wireless internet connection, student card, social assistance from the student counsellor, extensive online and on-campus library resources, gym and other campus recreational facilities. Additionally, life-long membership to the IMI Alumni network. There is no registration fee for the internship semester. The following documents are part of the application: - Two recent photographs (passport size) - Copy of passport - Transcripts of your previous education (school leaving certificates and high school transcripts) - Proof of English proficiency (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent test results) - Curriculum Vitae (Resumé) - Work certificates/references, if applicable - Health practitioner s report - Letter of Motivation with 500 words minimum (duly dated and signed) outlining your reasons for taking the IMI programmes and career goals, either: - My future in the international hospitality industry or - How a Swiss education at IMI will enhance my future prospects - For students originating from outside the European Union/EFTA: - Letter of Intent to leave Switzerland after your studies (150 words minimum and duly dated and signed) Students transferring from recognised hotel/tourism management schools must also include copies of official transcripts or records for each semester of the previous course of study. Step 2: Provisional Letter of Acceptance (PLOA) If your application is successful and the requested course is still available, you will be sent the Provisional Letter of Acceptance (PLOA). On receipt of this letter, the registration fee of CHF 2 800 should be paid immediately. If, for any reason, the registration fee payment cannot be made immediately please contact the Registrar. If the registration fee is not paid on time, the course place will no longer be guaranteed. Step 3: Letter of Acceptance (LOA) The Letter of Acceptance is issued and sent together with general information about IMI upon receipt of the full payment of the registration fee. The LOA is necessary to apply for the visa. Payment of School Fee The first instalment of your school fee (minimum 50% of tuition, accommodation and meals) must reach IMI s bank account at least eight weeks before course commencement. IMI is generally fully booked and cannot guarantee the course place and/or the chosen room category if the payment of the first instalment is not received on time. Visa In many countries outside Europe, students have to submit an application for an entry visa to Switzerland. This application is done at the nearest Swiss Embassy or Consulate and can take approximately eight to 12 weeks to process. 8

The Registrar will be happy to speak to you about your individual situation. If you are applying through IMI representatives, they will advise you on the details of the visa application process. However, neither IMI nor its representatives have jurisdiction over decisions concerning visa applications. All decisions are made by the relevant Swiss authorities. Visa collection at the Swiss Embassy or Consulate can be done as soon as the visa authorisation has been issued by the Swiss Immigration Office. The IMI Registrar or your local IMI representative will advise you accordingly. Advance payment: In some countries, students must pay their full academic semester fees before the visa can be processed. The Registrar will advise you if you are living in a country which requests advance payment. Arrival in Switzerland Students enrolled on their first year of studies are welcomed at Zurich airport and driven to IMI free of charge. Check-in at IMI must be done on the weekend before programme/course commencement. Deferment, Cancellation, Withdrawal, Refund, Visa refusal Deferment: An accepted student may defer his/her place for up to one semester and his/her registration fee will be held as confirmation of his/her place. Should the student withdraw later, there will be no refund of the registration fee. Cancellation: In the event of cancellation 60 days before the commencement date of the course, a refund of 50% of the registration fee will be made. The notice of cancellation must be sent in writing to the school, by registered mail. For cancellations after this deadline, there will be no refund of the registration fee under any circumstance. Any tuition fees received will be refunded in full to the bank account from which the payment was made. Withdrawal: If a student withdraws for any reason during the semester, no refund of any fee (registration, tuition, accommodation, meals) will be made. The same applies to students who are dismissed for academic/disciplinary reasons from the school. Visa refusal: Students whose applications are not accepted or whose visa applications are rejected will receive a full refund of the registration fee and school fee (tuition, accommodation and meals) paid. Laptop Policy The courses at IMI are delivered using a blended learning system, which is a combination of computer based and traditional learning. All students enrolled on IMI programmes need to have individual access to our virtual learning environment, which hosts student information including teaching and support documents and other learning resources. Students will also need to use the internet for their project research, to access on-line library resources or e-mails. Therefore all students must have their own laptop with the following requirements: Operation System - Microsoft Windows XP/Vista or Windows 7/8 (English version), we also support Mac OS based systems. Software: Microsoft Office 2008 compatible - Word, Excel and PowerPoint (English Version) or equivalent. The registration fee is payable on receipt of the Provisional Letter of Acceptance (PLOA). The school fee (tuition, accommodation and meals) is payable eight weeks before the course starts, especially for countries requiring visas and may be paid in full or in instalments. The first instalment must be at least 50% of the school fee and must reach IMI s bank account eight weeks before the course starts. Two weeks after course commencement, a yearly interest rate of 10% is charged on the balance of fees. All dues must reach IMI s account, at the latest, eight weeks after the course has begun.
