St Patrick s Primary School Gympie School Annual Report 2010 Patrick s Primary School partners with parents and the community to develop Christian character and individual excellence.

BROAD STRATEGIC GOALS Teaching and Faith and Mission St Patrick's Primary School will promote and develop an authentic Catholic community working towards Christ's mission in our world. Relationships and Community St Patrick's Primary School will promote and enhance positive relationships within and beyond the school community. 2010 Teaching and Learning St Patrick's Primary School will promote and enhance quality teaching and learning. Organisation and Administration St Patrick's Primary School will provide a quality, attractive and functional teaching and learning enviroment and be committed to processes of reflection, review and ongoing renewal.

GOALS Values of Jesus as expressed through his life and messages in the gospels will be evident in our students' relationships with themselves, each other, the world community and the environment. We will have teachers who will be well informed and effective in teh classroom teaching of religion especially in theology and scripture. Our Staff will have access to high quality resources and authentic faith experiences. The staff will be witness to a life of faith and modelling prayer and celebrating ritual with the students Our students will experience a range of Catholic practices that allows them to be in the presence of God and to personally identify with this Catholic Community. Staff and students will have a strong knowledge, understanding and experience of the school's Catholic identity and role within the mission of the Church Our learning environments will be inclusive of all students in the school. We will use inclusive, comprehensive and quality curriculum, assessment and reporting processes at the school Information, communication and learning technologies will be integrated in learning and teaching processes. Staff will be well informed of contemporary teaching and learning practices and will utilise these, where appropriate, in the school learning environment. We will have students who value literacy and numeracy learning and who will be exhibiting these skills to theri potential. We will value and actively promote and pursue the expression of "The Arts" including music and visual arts. Faith and Mission Teaching and Learning Relationships and Community Organisation and Administration Strong relationships that are underpinned by the religious and evangelising mission of the school will be forged with staff, parents, BCE Staff, St Patrick's College, Parish and cultural groups We will have whole of school systems to respond to student protection, personal and social development and behaviour support requirements that are congruent with BCE Policy and practices. We will partner with, and engage our parent community in the wholistic development of students, school renewal and policy development. Classroom environments will foster a sense of belonging, self worth, competence, security and a sense of purpose. Supportive positive relationships will be fostered amongst students across all year levels and ages. Pastoral care programs that will support all students and their families will be implemented. Staff and parents will be involved in the coninuous renewal of the school plan and procedures. Resource arrangements and operational procedures will effectively support learning and teaching in the context of varying socio-economic, cultural and educational support needs. School Board and P & F Association will be active and involved in school processes and planning. Resource planning will be aligned with St Patrick's Primary School's strategic renewal plans inclusive of changing school demographios. Information and learning management systems will provide greater efficiency of student and staff engagement with learning and teaching and school operations.

Faith and Mission Achievements 2010 Continued to nurture the faith development of the children through Pastoral time, MJR and Values assemblies. Continued to value the Church as a special place for our school community and promote the type of behaviour and practices suitable for different types of prayer and worship. Supported and strengthened school practices by integrating the Religious Life of the School Guidelines into current practices and identified areas for growth and change. Engaged the Early Years Teachers in the Early Years Curriculum ensuring the authentic integration of Religious Education. Continued to emphasize the importance of Scripture in guiding and nurturing the faith development of children and explored different ways of opening up The Word for the children. Continued to provide opportunities to nurture the personal spiritual and faith development of staff so that they can continue to be confident witnesses and models of faith to the students. Explored opportunities for professional development opportunities relating to the teaching of particular RE topics / year levels. Identified further opportunities for strengthening the schools relationship with other parts of the parish community, especially the Parish Faith Community and St Pat s College community

Teaching and Learning Achievements 2010 Engaged with aspects of the intended Australian Curriculum and provided feedback to ACARA in the development of this curriculum. Organized sequential plan for implementing the curriculum over the next 3 years. Continued to source and then implement contemporary literacy resources across all year levels to provide consistency in pedagogical practices. Children s learning has been enhanced by having more opportunities to develop their reading skills. Eg Keylinks, Springboards, Connectors Completed the First Steps Writing program and reviewed practices developed through First Steps Reading Developed Contemporary Flexible learning environments to cater for the varying needs of learners and their learning especially through the implementation of new structures in Year 3and 4. Explored contemporary teaching and learning practices for our Year 6 & 7 Students to be implemented in 2011 Integrated an enquiry approach to learning and teaching in many areas of the curriculum Focused attention on numeracy teaching by shared practices with staff, parent information in newsletters, emphasizing available resources Key Staff have been involved in the Leading Numeracy Learning Project Implemented the Support-A-Reader program with the assistance of parents Planned and implemented a more consistent sequential scope and sequence for literacy and numeracy development. Commenced the implementation of music program/project run in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Country Music Developed strategies for utilizing data provided by various standardized tests to assist with planning designated teaching and learning practices. Analyzed and compared NAPLAN results from 2008-2010 to be used as diagnostic information in literacy and numeracy planning Encouraged Staff to be involved in professional development that is relevant to classroom practices Continued to source additional online educational programs and educational software to support the curriculum

Continued development of a bank of learning objects and lesson plans to support the curriculum Continued to provide professional development opportunities for staff in the area of ICLT to assist them to integrate ICLT across a range of Key Learning Areas, including allocating time at a Professional development Day. Used current school data to identify students who may benefit from modified and extra support to assist learning. Collected anecdotal notes by a range of school staff/personnel and recorded on file by STIE and GC. Identified the need for resources to support a range of learning styles and abilities particularly high interest for easy access to all readers eg CQU Learning project for high achievers in Reading Collaboratively planned, resourced and implemented learning in the Early Years. Nurtured and fostered good teaching and learning practices and outcomes for students in the classroom. Sourced and resourced the area of Gifted and Talented so as to better cater for students who are in need of further enrichment programs Continued to develop strategies to effectively manage private music specialists. Developed the technological infrastructure that is needed to enhance the students understanding of environmental issues with comparing and contrasting electricity and water usage data

Relationships and Community Achievements Completed the immersion of the BCE Behaviour Support Documentation into our own policies and practices. We have introduced procedures to formally acknowledge the traditional owners at formal occasions. Engaged with and developed a Social & Emotional framework through KidsMatter. KidsMatter is a primary school mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiative developed in collaboration with the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and other agencies. Pursued opportunities for involving parents and the wider community in activities associated with the school Parent information sessions eg Dr Robi, Sean Smith, Numeracy night Christmas Concert, Parish events Applied for Get Active visit in 2010 through the department of Sport and Recreation. Sourced and applied for grants promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices. Consolidating our Japanese Immersion program. Continued partnerships and programs with outside health and sport development personnel. Continued to develop the pastoral file kept by the Student Support Team Community and family members were involved in the school s physical development eg moving furniture, committee involvement Raising awareness of mission activities ie Reaching out to others in our world All Staff involved in further training of Student Protection Introduced the Better Buddies program with Prep and Year 7 Developed relationship with Villa residents ie Choir, Media topics, bingo, music lessons Developed stronger relationships with the college through sharing of physical play spaces

Pursued the election of additional staff members as WHS representatives Continued to investigate and develop the practices and procedures of our school working groups. Further developed and improved existing school sporting programs e.g swimming, interschool sport and after school activities. Oversaw the implementation of their recommendations to the building and planning working group Year 7 Committee developed strategies for recycling of paper.
