ST SAVIOUR S COLLEGE TOOWOOMBA ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MISSION ROLE DESCRIPTION St Saviour s College is administered by the Toowoomba Catholic Education Office and has been established to educate and nurture young women in the faith tradition within the charism of the Sisters of Mercy. As a Catholic College, it is committed to education girls in a quality faith based learning environment. The Assistant Principal Mission & Religious Education is a key member of the College Leadership Team The Assistant Principal Mission & Religious Education exercises a unique professional relationship of support and loyalty to the leadership of the Principal and contributes in a way which shapes and implements the Colleges vision that reflects the Catholic character of the College. The Assistant Principal Mission & Religious Education is directly responsible to the Principal for the performance of his/her duties and shares in the responsibility of deputises in the absence of the Principal in conjunction with the Assistant Principal Administration and Assistant Principal - Curriculum The Assistant Principal Mission & Religious Education works closely with the Principal to gain an understanding of the complex nature of College leadership and to further enhance their professional learning. The Assistant Principal Mission & Religious Education contributes to the collaborative decision-making processes and leads in the planning, implementation and evaluation of College goals. The Assistant Principal Mission & Religious Education is an exemplary teacher who provides an excellent role model for other teachers in their understanding of quality teaching and learning that is holistic and informed by a distinctive Catholic world-view. It is expected that the specific responsibilities of the role are negotiated annually by the Principal and the College Leadership team in the form of an active statement of duties. Key Accountabilities: 1. Religious Leadership The Assistant Principal nurtures young people into a community of disciples of Jesus, and brings a Catholic world-view to all aspects of their delegated responsibilities. In supporting the Principal in the exercise of Religious Leadership the Assistant Principal will: 1.1 give witness to living Catholic discipleship 1.2 model commitment to the Church and its teaching 1.3 provide leadership in the Religious Education curriculum 1.4 promote, encourage and facilitate opportunities for regular prayer, reflection and celebration as a College community 1.5 assist in the integration of Catholic values across the curriculum 1.6 encourage and participate in the liturgical and sacramental life of the College 1.7 collaborate to develop and implement a consistent approach to pastoral care 1.8 encourage College participation in service to the community 1.9 foster parish, College, community and parent partnership. 2. Educational Leadership The Assistant Principal supports the development of an optimum learning environment for all students. In supporting the Principal in the exercise of Educational Leadership the Assistant Principal will: 2.1 collaborate with staff to build and maintain a College environment which is conducive to optimal learning outcomes 2.2 model excellent classroom teaching practice that reflects current pedagogy 2.3 contribute to the development of shared understanding and reflective practice 2.4 monitor and evaluate teaching programs and practice in light of the shared beliefs about teaching and learning and student needs 2.5 support teachers to develop effective learning environments 2.6 develop and monitor learning standards 2.7 promote the implementation of Information, Communication and Learning Technology to enhance teaching and learning 2.8 foster the development of appropriate assessment and reporting strategies. 3. Strategic Leadership The Assistant Principal supports the College community in the collaborative development, promotion and implementation of a Strategic Management Plan. In supporting the Principal in the exercise of Strategic Leadership the Assistant Principal will: 3.1 assist in leading the development, implementation and evaluation of the College Vision and Mission Statement 3.2 assist in the development and implementation of the College s Strategic Plan 3.3 contribute to the implementation of the annual College goals 3.5 promote an understanding of the diocesan perspective and priorities 3.6 foster a culture of reflection, review and improvement 3.7 collaborate to develop processes which will enhance College leadership and management. 2 Page Updated 2016

4. Human Resources Leadership The Assistant Principal supports the Principal in leading and managing the College staff by promoting a collaborative culture that fosters professional growth. In supporting the Principal in the exercise of Human Resource Leadership the Assistant Principal will: 4.1 collaborate in the selection, induction, development and performance management of staff 4.2 support and facilitate the commitment of all staff to further learning 4.3 collaborate in the process of team building within the staff 4.4 develop processes to enable the effective management of employee relations 4.5 supervise staff to foster optimal learning outcomes for students. 5. Organisational Leadership The Assistant Principal supports the Principal to implement and manage efficient and effective administrative and financial practices to meet legal and policy compliance. In supporting the Principal in the exercise of Organisational Leadership the Assistant Principal will: 5.1 co-ordinate College policies, processes and activities 5.2 model adherence to legal/statutory requirements 5.3 contribute to processes that are developed to ensure effective financial/record management 5.4 collaborate with the Principal in risk management 5.5 provide assistance for the management of property and facilities 5.6 exercise a significant role in the effective daily administration of the College. 6. Community Leadership The Assistant Principal supports the Principal to ensure that the College operates as part of the local and diocesan Catholic community through consultation, communication and partnership. In supporting the Principal in the exercise of Community Leadership the Assistant Principal will: 6.1 promote positive staff, student and parent interpersonal relationships based on Jesus example and teaching 6.2 provide leadership in the pastoral care of staff, students and families 6.3 establish and maintain effective communication with all members of the College, parish and wider community 6.4 contribute to a spirit of welcome and hospitality in the College 6.5 model and implement effective conflict management strategies 6.6 collaborate with the Principal to develop effective procedures for the inclusion and participation of the community. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MISSION & RELIGIOUS EDUCATION KEY DUTIES The Assistant Principal Mission& Religious Education is responsible for promoting the Catholic and Mercy mission of the College and contributes to its educational goals by assisting the Principal in the overall leadership of the College. The role also includes a teaching load in accordance with the Industrial Agreement. They will include: Faith and Religious Dimensions of College Life The Assistant Principal - Mission & religious Education supports the Catholic, Mercy and religious dimensions of College life in the following ways: Supports the Principal, especially by providing active practical and logistical support for liturgies, retreats and other activities Gives witness to and models the Gospel values in their own personal life Leads the religious life of the school. Manages and Coordinates all liturgy, ritual, worship and prayer within the College Interprets and manages the implementation of CEOT guidelines, policies and directives in religious education. Demonstrates authentic religious leadership in the light of the mandate to integrate faith, life and culture. Demonstrates a knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the life, work and spirituality of Catherine McAuley Supports ongoing professional development to support the needs of staff and College Promotes and gives effective witness to the practice of the educational spirituality Encourages the living out of Gospel values as essential elements of the life of the College Promotes awareness of, and commitment to, issues of social justice Takes responsibility for the College s community outreach programs Provides a religious dimension in the development and implementation of the College s renewal plan and policies Facilitates the spiritual and theological formation of all staff Leads staff in the building of a harmonious culture that infuses a religious dimension across all aspects of College life. Provides regular reflective inputs for the College newsletter in relation to faith and spirituality Supports and facilitates weekly Home Class Liturgy of the Word celebrations and regular Year Level Masses. Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care The Assistant Principal Mission & Religious Education actively fosters a safe, orderly, caring and well-disciplined environment conducive to personal growth and effective learning and teaching in the following ways: Overseas an integrated range of practical and effective whole school student wellbeing and student management practices, processes and procedures, and that these are fairly and consistently implemented. Creates a safe, orderly, caring and well-disciplined environment conducive to personal growth and effective learning and teaching for all students and members of the College Community Ensures that the College s expectations of students are reasonable, easily understood and well known. Oversees that students wear the College Uniform correctly, appropriately and with pride and that students personal appearance is appropriate and in accord with the College s expectations. Collaborates with the Principal to ensure that the pastoral care and wellbeing needs of students are appropriately and systematically provided for Liaises with the Home Class Teachers in matters related to student behaviour, student welfare and pastoral care, and collaborating with them to develop appropriate case management plans. Manages the Pastoral Care Team Informs the Principal of discipline related matters and the academic, behavioural and social progress of students, particularly those struggling to live up to the College s expectations. As a Member of the College Leadership Team the Assistant Principal Mission & Religious Education is required to: Affirm, promote and foster the Catholic ethos in all aspects the life of the College community. actively support other members of the College Leadership Team in their execution of their role work in an honest, open, creative and flexible manner that contributes positively to the effectiveness of the Leadership Team provides opportunities for staff input into College Leadership Team considerations and facilitates appropriate and comprehensive feedback. represent the College in external forums. model a leadership style and approach that reflects and supports the vision of leadership articulated by the Principal. deputise for the Principal and/or other members of the Leadership as required. Authority Limits Authority to carry out the responsibilities of the position, is delegated by the Principal. Accountability The Assistant Principal Mission is in matters relating to performance of the role is accountable to the Executive Director through the Principal.
