O MARCH 2015 MONTHLY NEWSLETTER CHORLEYWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL Happy and Successful 2 nd April, 2015 (Newsletter 7 2014/15) It has been a very busy Spring term in school and the Easter holidays are now here! School breaks up today at 2pm. May we wish you all a relaxing break and we look forward to seeing the children back in school on Monday 20 th April. Overall attendance for this term to date is 96.7%. This is still slightly lower than our whole school and individual target of 97%. We are really hoping to see an improvement next term when much of the seasonal illness will hopefully have subsided. All children who have achieved 97% attendance or above will receive a certificate on the last day of term. Change of Term Dates We notified you last week of the decision taken by the governing body to change the 2016 Easter holiday dates in line with the local secondary schools. We have since been informed by Hertfordshire County Council that we are not permitted to alter our term dates. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. This situation has arisen due to miscommunication and is beyond our control. Therefore, the last day of the Spring Term will be Friday 1 st April 2016 and children will return to school on Monday 18 th April 2016. Tag Rugby Sports News On Thursday 12 th March, the tag rugby team took part in their round of league matches. The team played really well, they won 1, drew 1 and lost 1. On Thursday 19 th March, the team also took part in the Saracens Tag Rugby Festival alongside 48 other primary school teams. They played 4 matches, winning 2, losing 1 and drawing 1. Chorleywood came a very close second in their league but unfortunately did not make it to the knock out stage. Mr Rasheed said There was great effort and enthusiasm shown by all children involved! Well done to Ella, Sasha, Lucy, Ava, Jessica, Rebecca, Josh, Christopher, Louis, Sean, Max and Tom. Football The girls football team lost against Rickmansworth Park 2-1 and beat Maple Cross 8-0!! Very well done to Sasha, Ella, Rebecca, Jessica, Ava, Lucy, Alicia, Isha, Anya and Anoushka!

Music News We all enjoyed a fantastic display of Djembe Drums in assembly at the end of February. Thank you to years 3 and 4, who have been learning how to play this instrument. Years 5 and 6 have also been learning an instrument and we look forward to hearing them play the Ukuele. Woodwind band and the Key Stage 1 and 2 choirs are also running as lunchtime clubs and will continue next term. Many pupils are also having individual or small group lessons to learn the bassoon, the flute, the clarinet, the saxophone, the violin, the piano and the guitar. If your child is interested in learning any instrument on an individual or small group basis, please contact Mrs Hall in the School Office for more details. Gardening Club News Congratulations to Eva in Year 4, who has won the Budding Gardner competition and has been selected to build her Wonderland themed garden for the Royal Horticultural Society at RHS Wisley in May. Mrs Davies has asked us to thank all the other entrants; she said that they were all brilliant! Caterlink are currently running a School Kitchen Garden Project in partnership with the WSH Foundation. Mrs Davies successfully applied for funding from this project and she has received 500 to create an exciting new kitchen garden here at Chorleywood Primary. You may have noticed the fantastic Garden Clock on the grass outside Year 6 that is being built by Gardening Club and parent helpers. This will enable all children to tell the time in a garden environment. It has been generously funded by the PTA. Many thanks also to Mr Satheesan from Three Sons in Chorleywood who donated some beautiful plants to the Gardening Club. On Friday 13 th March, children took part in a mufti day to support Comic Relief Red Nose Day. On Monday 16 th March, Year 6 also organised a cake sale in aid of the charity. Many thanks to all the parents and carers who made cakes, they were delicious! The cake sale raised 74 and the final total we raised as a school was 275. Many thanks to all who donated! As you may be aware, there is currently a national campaign asking people to switch off their car engines when parked, loading or waiting at the roadside as vehicle fumes can damage our health and the environment. For more information, please go to: https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfltemplates/switch-off-engine/switch-off-your-engine-infographic.pdf To support this scheme and to promote pupils health and well-being, we are asking parents and carers to switch off their car engines when waiting outside school at pick up and drop off times. A group of Chorleywood Primary staff including Mrs Wells, Mrs Rhodes and Mrs Coomber are taking part in the Pretty Muddy Race For Life on Saturday 16 th May. They will be completing a 5k muddy obstacle course in Phasels Wood, Hertfordshire in aid of Cancer Research. If you wish to sponsor them, please go to: https://www.justgiving.com/cwps. Donation Received Thank you to SC Johnson Ltd for their recent donation to the school. If any parents are an employee of this company, we would be very grateful if they would contact the School Office on 01923 282095.
