October 4, 2016 Board of Education County of Cabell Huntington, West Virginia Board Members: The following items are offered for your consideration at the regular meeting of the Board of Education of the County of Cabell scheduled for Tuesday evening, October 4, 2016, at 5:30 p.m., in the Administrative Office of the Board of Education, 2850 Fifth Avenue, Huntington, West Virginia. This meeting is a meeting of the Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the County School System s business and is not to be considered a public community meeting. There is a time for public participation during the meeting as indicated in agenda item, Delegations to be Heard. The L.S.I.C. from Barboursville, Huntington, Huntington East, and Milton middle schools will meet with the Board at 4:00 p.m., prior to the regular meeting. 1000. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS 1023. BOARD MEETING MINUTES Minutes of September 20, 2016 (Expulsion Hearings) and September 20, 2016 (Regular Meeting) are being presented for approval. 2066. APPROVAL TO TRANSFER LIBRARY NAME TO EXPLORER ACADEMY The Superintendent recommends the transfer of the name, William E. Morton Library, at the former Geneva Kent Building to the Explorer Academy Media Center. William E. Morton attended Cabell County Schools and was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of International Economic Development under Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown, when he perished in a plane crash on April 3, 1996. The Geneva Kent Library was built and named in his honor on September 20, 1996. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 Page 3

RESOURCE OFFICER AGREEMENT CITY OF BARBOURSVILLE The Superintendent recommends approval for a School Resource Officer provided by the City of Barboursville to work in collaboration with the existing School Resource Officer program provided by the Cabell County Sheriff s Department. The Barboursville School Resource Officer will work at Barboursville Middle School, Village of Barboursville Elementary and Nichols Elementary on a rotation with the current School Resource Officer. Through a grant and a City of Barboursville budget allowance, the Barboursville School Resource Officer will be provided at no charge to the Board. 2068. SCHOOL TRIP REQUEST CABELL MIDLAND HIGH SCHOOL The Superintendent recommends approval of Cabell Midland High School s trip request for the FFA group to travel to Indianapolis, IN, on October 18-22, 2016, to participate in the National FFA Convention. Four (4) days of school will be missed and six (6) students along with two (2) chaperones including Mary Phillips will be on this trip. Expenses will be paid from school funds. 2069. SCHOOL TRIP REQUEST CABELL MIDLAND HIGH SCHOOL The Superintendent recommends approval of Cabell Midland High School s trip request for the Collegium Musicum group to travel to Huntersville, NC on October 19-20, 2016, to participate in the Carolina Renaissance Faire. Two (2) days of school will be missed and forty-five (45) students along with 5 (five) chaperones including one employee, Ed Harkless, will be on this trip. Transportation will be provided by a charter bus. Expenses will be paid from school funds. 2070. SCHOOL TRIP REQUEST CABELL MIDLAND HIGH SCHOOL The Superintendent recommends approval of Cabell Midland High School s trip request, for Collegium to travel to Ireland on March 18-25, 2017 to participate in an educational trip (during Spring Break). No school will be missed and forty-five (45) students along with nine (9) chaperones including two (2) employees, Ed Harkless and Tammie Watts, will be on this trip. Transportation will be provided by the airlines. Expenses will be paid from school funds. 2071. SCHOOL TRIP REQUEST HUNTINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL The Superintendent recommends approval of Huntington Middle School s trip request for the 8 th grade to travel to Washington DC on April 6-9, 2017, to learn and study about our country s history. Two (2) days of school will be missed and one hundred thirty-five (135) students along with twenty (20) chaperones including nine (9) employees will be on this trip. The employees include: Johnna Adams, Jason Bankston, Rob Ward, Rastina Smith, April Diamond, Steve Riner, Jessica Bishop, Liz Daniels and Kathy Morris. Transportation will be provided by Charter buses. Expenses will be paid from school funds. 2072. ATTENDANCE FULL DAY EXEMPTION FOR 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR The Superintendent recommends the Board approve exemption from full day attendance for the following students based on Attendance Policy 5200.
