Our Lady of Fatima Primary School Newsletter July 2017 We welcome everyone into our community to live, love and learn together in the light and example of Jesus Christ www.olfatima.bham.sch.uk Faith-filled and Hopeful. Pupils at Our Lady of Fatima School aim to be faith-filled in their beliefs and hopeful for the future. As we almost reach the end of another extremely busy and successful academic year at Our Lady of Fatima School I wish to extend my thanks and appreciation to all parents, colleagues, Academy Committee members and the school community for their support in making our school the very special place it is. By continuing to work together we have been able to truly live out our Mission Statement, enabling your children to experience rich and varied learning experiences in a nurturing and caring environment. Thank you for the partnership we share and the support we receive which is vital for your children to thrive, succeed and reach their full potential. centenary statue of Our Lady of Fatima week commencing 10 th July. Each class will pray the rosary and offer special prayers in honour of Our Lady. The Sacrament of Confirmation We shared a beautiful, reverent and spirit filled evening on Wednesday when Year 6 pupils received the Sacrament of Confirmation. His Grace, Archbishop Bernard Longley was the main celebrant of this Sacrament and it was so lovely to welcome him to the school and parish community. Many congratulations to our Year 6 pupils who have just a couple of weeks remaining with us before they take on the exciting challenge that lies ahead. Our thoughts and prayers go with them on their life journey as they Our Lady of Fatima s Centenary Statue As well as it being the school s 50 th anniversary this year it is also the centenary of when Our Lady appeared to three children in Fatima in 1917. On Wednesday 19 th July 2017 at 9.05 am Bishop Robert Byrne will be celebrating our 50 th Anniversary Mass along with other priests. This is indeed a very special occasion and so please do consider attending. The Mass will also be dedicated to our Year 6 Leavers and Bishop Byrne will be presenting the children with their certificates from the Sacrament of Confirmation at the end of this Mass. You may have noticed that our new 50 th Anniversary garden has recently started to take shape. I would like to thank the staff for their support with their gardening skills alongside Mrs McKenna, who used to work at Our Lady of Fatima School as a Teaching Assistant, and she, with her husband, has been instrumental in the planning and planting of the garden. It has certainly enhanced the front entrance of the school. Bishop Byrne will bless the garden during his visit on 19 th July. _ End of Year School Reports During the last couple of weeks I have been reading the school reports that teachers have written. It is a real privilege to read about the many varied talents of our pupils. Every child s report is unique to them and it is important for us to remember that we celebrate the unique joy of their individuality. All classes will receive their reports on 12 th July. If you would like to speak to your child s teacher about their school report, Monday 17th July from 3.40 pm has been set aside for parents to make an appointment with teachers. Equally, if a teacher would like to meet with you about your child s report, an appointment will be made for you on 17 th July. Parking It is only a very small minority, but we still have complaints about parents who park or drop-off on the zig-zag lines outside school. The zig-zag lines are there to provide a safe place to cross for all of the children and so I continue to appeal to all parents to exercise care and thoughtfulness at all times. Thank you for your support. As you are aware our school opened its doors 50 years ago. Gardeners World is also celebrating its 50 th Anniversary this year.
