Library Volunteers Lindsey, Josh and Hager put the mural up in the library. This mural was done by our elementary students. Congratulations to Lindsay Suchy who has been awarded, by Tofield Lion's Club, a trip to the Lion's Waterton Leadership Camp. The camp held in Waterton Lakes National Park, Canada, is dedicated to instilling skills and attitudes of leadership and community service. The camp creates an international community of young leaders, who have great potential to inspire changes around the world. Good luck Lindsay! Textbooks and Library Books Dear Parents, please help our student bring back our textbooks. We have many students not returning their textbooks and we need them back as soon as possible. Teachers have received lists with the name of students and their overdue books. Teachers are in the process of collecting and returning overdue library books. Thank you teacher! Thank you parents and guardians for your help.

A Minute to Win It!

On Tuesday, March 13th, students of 6N led their elementary leadership activity for the month of March. The class decided to do 7, Minute to Win it style games, and had to research the activity, make posters, calculate supplies needed and be able to explain and demo the games. They had a fun-filled day!

Basketball Season Is Now Complete! Thank you to all of the coaches for your time and effort. Thank you to all the parents and guardians for: driving, coming out to cheer and being supportive. Our Senior High Boys competed in the 2A Central Zone Championships at David Thompson School near Rocky Mountain House on: March 9 and 10/2018. The boys had some close games but were defeated by Innisfail and Ponoka. Our Junior High teams advanced to the Battle River Regional Championships. Girls were in Viking and Boys were in Daysland. The Regional Championships were postponed to a later date because of the weekend snow storm. Both the Girls and Boys team ended up losing their first round games. Badminton season is underway. Just a reminder to all students (P.E. classes/badminton team players) to bring your badminton racquets.

World Vision Canada s 30 Hour Famine May 3 4, 2018 Open to Tofield School students in grades 7 12 Mark the dates in your calendar NOW! For more information, attend the invitational meeting on April 13 at 10:15 am in room 112 (start of period 3) The 30 Hour Famine is a global youth movement to end hunger. In developing countries, those with no access to food or the basic necessities of life, struggle every day to survive. Every year, thousands of youth come together; we challenge ourselves to fast for 30 Hours, learn about hunger, and raise money to help create change. It's about battling hunger and making the world a better place for children everywhere. This event a great opportunity to make a difference in the world and have some fun with friends at the same time.

BRSD Bus Transportation Notice : Pack it on, Pack it off. The transportation department has reviewed some of our procedures and practices through the lens of what s best for student safety. One very significant risk for students is when they are out of their seats and not protected by the compartmentalization of the energy absorbing seat backs. Often students leave their seats to place garbage in the garbage box. One of the rules that is posted on each bus is that students are to remain seated, and yet the garbage receptacle is inviting students to get up out of their seats to put their trash into it. Many students do this when the bus is stopped at a pick up/drop off location therefore not contravening the rule of not leaving their seats while the bus is in motion. This is, however, the most vulnerable time for the safety of the students who are boarding or disembarking, and it is the time when the driver needs to be totally focused on this process without distraction. In order to address this safety concern, we have made a decision that all garbage boxes will be removed from our school buses. While it is still up to the driver s discretion as to whether or not eating will be allowed on their bus, we now expect that all students who have food or drinks on the bus pack the garbage off with them. We ask that you discuss this change with your children and thank you for supporting our new pack it on, pack it off rule. April Fun Facts It is the second month of spring. It is a time of planting and spring cleaning. Two flowers signify the month of April: the daisy and the sweet pea. The birthstone for people born in April is the diamond, one of the hardest substances on earth, and one that formed deep in the earth, even if we don't know how long ago that happened. In the Southern Hemisphere, April is the same as October in the Northern Hemisphere. Leonardo da Vinci Was Born in April Noah Webster Copyrighted the First Edition of His Dictionary in April William Shakespeare Born and Died in April The diamond of April symbolizes innocence. The Boston Marathon is held during April. The Japanese fiscal year for most businesses starts on April 1st. In England there are many cuckoo festivals. The arrival of the cuckoo bird in April is a signal that spring has arrived. April is the month when the professional baseball season begins in the United States.
