Guide to Bidding in BOSS for Columbia and HKU Electives OVERVIEW The following instructions tell you everything you need to know about this process and how to use the Business Online Selection System (BOSS) to bid for Columbia and HKU Electives. POINT ALLOCATION 1,000 points are given for each elective you must take to complete the EMBA Program. Points are given upfront for all of the electives over the duration of the program. Unused points are carried over from term to term. 200 points are earned for each completed elective for use in a subsequent term and 1,000 points are deducted for each London Business School elective which you take. Your current bid point balance is viewable in BOSS. BIDDING ROUNDS AND ADD/DROP INFORMATIONAL POLL The poll is MANDATORY. The poll provides us with data to evaluate enrollments and make adjustments. Data will be used to create elective menus for the New York CBS weekend module courses and for seat allocations for block week electives. Rank order courses in this poll. ROUND ONE Students bid points for seats in elective courses. Successful bids from this round result in seats in courses, i.e., you will be registered for the course. All successful bidders pay the clearing price and excess bid points are refunded. o The clearing price is the lowest successful bid for the course. If you successfully obtain seats in the courses you want in round one, you do not have to participate further unless you change your mind about your choices. ROUND TWO You may drop courses during the first 48 hours, and bid points are refunded. Successful bids from this round result in seats in courses, i.e., you will be registered for the course. All successful bidders pay the clearing price and excess bid points are refunded. ROUND THREE You may drop courses during the first 48 hours, and bid points are refunded. Successful bids from this round result in seats in courses, i.e., you will be registered for the course. All successful bidders pay the clearing price and excess bid points are refunded. ADD/DROP Students may drop courses for which they are already enrolled and add courses in which seats are available. No adjustments can be made after the end of add/drop. All changes must be made through BOSS. Process is first come, first served. Bid points are not spent or refunded. CROSS REGISTRATION (COLUMBIA) For those interested in taking electives in either the full-time MBA program or in other Columbia schools, please read below for cross registration information: MBA Classes: Columbia f/t MBA courses open to EMBA students are available for bidding during rounds 1-3. Any courses not initially available for bidding can be bid for during the waitlist round to be placed on the waitlist. Non-Business School Classes: Download a university cross registration form from BOSS under EMBA Selection Guide. Obtain signatures from the appropriate school, and return the form to the EMBA Office. Please note that no more than 6 credits outside of the Business School may be counted toward the completion of your degree requirements.
