NCC News News from around our NCC campus Welcome Back Dear Parents, Welcome to a new year of learning at Nunawading Christian College! After just over a week at school, there is already lots of news to share and we have a brand new format to share the news. Throughout Term 1, we are trialling digital newsletters for Primary and Secondary. This is in response to school satisfaction survey questions regarding the newsletter and school communication. Feedback from these surveys overwhelmingly suggested that digital channels are the most preferred method of communication. This new platform allows us to share rich content including videos and links to important information online. The digital newsletter will also positively contribute to NCC s commitment to sustainability. Over the next few weeks, we will be making slight tweaks to the platform to make it easier to read the news you need. If you would still prefer a printed newsletter, copies will be available from parent reception from next week. New Science Buildings Nearing Completion The wait is nearly over. We are excited to see the continued development of our building project. The builders have made a real effort to fast-track the Biology, Chemistry and Science laboratories and we anticipate classes to begin in the new classrooms in the next fortnight. The lift, general purpose classroom and library are due for completion in April. Thank you for your patience while we resolve any issues with the new platform. Our leadership team, teachers, administrative staff and students are all looking forward to another fantastic year of learning ahead as we partner with you to nurture and grow every student s unique abilities. Enjoy the news from our rst week of classes! Congratulations Mr Thomas We would like to formally congratulate Mr Ben Thomas, NCC s Design, Creativity & Technology Teacher, who was awarded Adventist Schools Victoria teacher of the year at the annual conference over the holidays. A very deserving recipient of a prestigious award. Read more.

Primary News News from the Primary Campus Announcements from Mr Cowled Security The external door to the main corridor of the classroom block will be locked prior to school starting in the mornings and during classes for security purposes. Parking At times there are cars parked in the Primary car park that do not belong to either staff or parents, thus restricting the number of spaces for school users. We will be issuing parking permits to a limited number of folk who will need to display the permit in the window of their car for identi cation purposes. Registration of such vehicles will be required at the of ce, beginning next week. Vehicles without a permit will not be allowed to park in the Primary car park during the day. Interviews Initial Parent/Teacher Interviews will take place on February 20. More information regarding this will be given soon. Assembly Each Monday morning the Primary school will be having an assembly by the agpole (weather permitting). Here we will sing the National Anthem and hand out any awards for the past week. We will still celebrate birthdays in Chapel on Fridays. Parents are welcome to attend both of these events. Foundation (Prep) Just a reminder to new families with Foundation students that students are not required come to school on Wednesdays for Term 1 only. These are, however, optional pupil free days only if necessary. This gives the students a break in the middle of the week where they are not at school and allows the teachers to do Students Meet their Buddies The buddy system is a wonderful tradition at NCC where our oldest Primary students pair up with our youngest for the year. The program supports the leadership and character of our older students and also provides additional support and nurture for our Prep and Year 1 students who are nding their feet at school. Our Prep & Year 1 students met their Year 5 & 6 buddies for the rst time this week. There were lots of smiles as they drew pictures of each other as a keepsake. We can t wait for the year ahead as our older students help to mentor and support our younger students.

individual testing by invitation. This process reduces the absentee rate in the rst term. Thank you for taking note of this.

Secondary News from the Secondary Campus Year 9 Challenge: Day One Year 12 First Chapel On Tuesday this week, our Year 9 Challenge students began another year of adventure and challenge with a sunrise ceremony at the top of Mt Dandenong. Our Year 12 students hit the ground running with the very rst chapel for the year on Monday. Chapel opened with worship and then a hilarious skit of a staff meeting which challenged Secondary students to be yourself. Jamie Stanley, NCC s new chaplain then spoke about this year s theme, Querencia meaning the place where one s strength is drawn, where one feels at home; the place where you are your most authentic self. Under the leadership of Mr Martin Kutschker and Ms Rebekah Bamford, our students will participate in a variety of activities throughout the year designed to encourage students to discover their potential and the possibility for growth outside their comfort zone. Practical activities combined with personal re ection helps each child discover more about themselves and look beyond themselves to the needs of others. For a look at what s in store for the Year 9 students this year, watch the video below or read more on our website. Year 9 Challenge
