INTRODUCTION Orissa is a littoral state of India with a long coastline, rich in tribal population and a storehouse of mineral wealth. Because of its mineral wealth and strategic location it attracts foreign investment in steel, aluminum, power, refineries and infrastructure. The capital of Orissa is Bhubaneswar, famed for its magnificent temples, in a thousand. Orissa has several popular tourist destinations. Puri with Jagannath temple, Konark with Sun Temple, Bhubaneswar with Lingaraja Temple and Nandan Kanan. Also nearby Chilka Lake, a brackish water coastal lake is an important one. Bhubaneshwar The state of Orissa in general and Bhubaneswar in particular is well-positioned with respect to the research and development activities thriving in various central government, state government as well as privately-sponsored R&D institutes. To name a few of them, ILS (DBT), RMRC (ICMR), IMMT (CSIR), NISER (DAE) and CIFA (ICAR) CRRI (ICAR). Further, there are two universities for higher education and research, namely, the Utkal University and the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT). The city also houses state scientific professional funding bodies such as Orissa Vigyan Academy. KIIT University is located in Bhubaneswar has the distinction of being one of the youngest institutions to be awarded the deemed university status in India. Today KIIT is accredited institute catering to twelve distinct streams such as engineering, computer science, management, rural management, law, medical sciences, dental sciences... Each academic program is functioning in its own independent campus. One of them is KIIT School of Biotechnology (KSBT) established in 2007. It is our pleasure to announce an international conference to be held on 13-14 th November, 2009. The aim of the conference is to provide a common platform to academicians, professionals, researchers, doctoral and postdoctoral fellows from all over the world to enhance and share their knowledge and experiences. CONFERENCE THEME In all these and many other modern temples of scientific research thriving in Bhubaneswar, various aspects of research works are being undertaken in the field of biological sciences. The efforts of the Conference team shall be to bring all such research activities and scholars together under a common umbrella during the two-day meet, so that each one on the platform gains and understands the research needs and expertise of the other person, thus cultivating a culture of inter-institutional team work. The outcome of this scientific gathering envisages understanding the advancement in various biomedical researches in India and abroad. The main focus will be on human diseases, its understanding and development in its prevention and cure. This would also bring in emerging technology and scientific ideas to this part of the world and India.

Sonawane, KSBT, Bhubaneswar CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: POSTER AND PLATFORM PRESENTATION The abstracts of original research work are invited from scientists, postdoctoral and doctoral researchers worldwide to be published in the conference abstract book. Abstract submissions shall be considered for poster presentation only, though a few will be selected by program organizers for oral presentation, based on the merit of the work. Each abstract will be peer reviewed for (a) scientific content, (b) the scientific merit of the research and (c) adherence to exemplary research standards. The decision to accept or reject an abstract shall rest with the program organizers/technical committee. Abstracts should not be more than 500 words containing title, name of author(s), and name of the institution on A4 size in MS word. On the abstract the author should indicate their preference for oral or poster presentation. Once accepted, notification will be provided by email to the presenting author and the presenter must register for conference for paying the applicable registration fee. To encourage young researchers to showcase their best works, best presentation awards have been instituted, which shall be adjudged by a special panel of jury from among the prominent figures in the gathering. Poster Dimensions: The space allotted for each poster shall be 4ft (height) X3ft (width) and must include title, author names and official address. FOR EXHIBITORS A small number of exhibitor tables shall be made available at the conference venue. The exhibitors at the conference will be a chosen few: companies with progressive technologies in biotech and life science products and service providers, multinational agencies, high-profile biotech and life science strategic partners and other allied service providers. To apply, an exhibitor must have one of his/her executives registered. The application deadline is 5 th November 2009. The charge for a stall is Rs. 10,000 which includes all basic facilities. ACCOMODATION Accommodation can be reserved for participants in hotels and hostels. Free hostel accommodation will be provided to doctoral and postdoctoral students. Hotel ranges from Rs. 400/- per room to Rs. 2000 per room per day depending upon the category of hotel/guest house. Kindly indicate your choice in the registration form.
