Construction management demands professional input at all stages from concept to detailed design, construction and maintenance. This programme is designed to teach you how to blend traditional design skills with modern technologies whilst allowing you to develop skills that are necessary to become a highly trained professional in this very demanding but rewarding discipline. The core themes of the programme include: the legal and regulatory framework of building, construction processes, construction management, contractual procedures, and construction finance. The degree is awarded by Coventry University in the United Kingdom, and is monitored by the Higher Education and Funding Council (HEFC) and the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). This programme: has a strong emphasis on communication, team work and leadership; incorporates project-based learning; maintains an environmental sustainability focus; maintains a strong emphasis on industry relevance and flexible programme structure. Aviation is highly competitive and needs well-trained individuals who can work effectively in rapidly changing environments. This programme will prepare students for employment in a range of operational, management and planning roles in the dynamic and vibrant aviation industry. They will gain a broad awareness of the aviation industry and a range of analytical skills that will give them a comprehensive appreciation of the aviation operating environment. Students will develop breadth and depth of thinking, and the ability to solve problems relevant to the aviation industry. RMIT has been involved in aerospace and aviation education and training for more than 70 years. Their suite of programmes has equipped graduates to be effective in a wide range of roles and levels. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) delivered in collaboration between RMIT University and SHAPE is a top-up degree programme for students holding a relevant Higher Diploma qualification. Depending on the previous qualification, students will enter the programme with a minimum credit transfer between 60 credit points to 144 credit points from the full 288 credit points required for programme completion. The academic year consists of 3 trimesters and delivery is in part-time mode. Students will normally take 2 or 3 courses / modules per trimester to complete the programme in 4-10 trimesters, dependent on the amount of credit received and number of courses / modules undertaken in each trimester. The programme is delivered through a combination of face-to-face lectures and tutorials / workshops and online components taught by both RMIT and SHAPE staff. Engineering ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applicants will be eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) programme, and also be eligible for credit recognition, if they have completed a relevant Higher Diploma (HD) with an average grade of C+ or better. Qualifications recongised include: HD in Customer Services for Aviation and Passenger Transport HD in Airfreight Management and Global Logistics HD in Airport Operations Management HD in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering HD in Business Administration Students who have not completed one of the above qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS IELTS 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0; or TOEFL score of 580+ (TWE 4.5+); or RMIT English Worldwide (REW) Advanced Plus or equivalent; or Successful completion of at least the equivalent of a two-year tertiary programme of at least Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 5 within the past five years where English is the language of teaching and assessment. (VTC graduates who have completed a Higher Diploma within the past five years conducted and assessed in the English medium are deemed to have met this requirement.) This programme prepares graduates to work as construction managers, project managers, quantity surveyors or builders, who are responsible for overall planning, cost and schedule analysis, site supervision, project and business management of the entire construction project life cycle. Graduates are capable of working on multidisciplinary projects in order to move beyond the construction aspects of a project and manage the entire building process from inception, through various stages of design, to completion and handover. Through individual and team-based projects that closely resemble the work of construction management, project management and quantity surveying professionals, students integrate their knowledge, teamwork, leadership, management and communication skills which will enhance their future career development. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The programme at SHAPE is equivalent to the 3 rd and 4 th years of an RMIT Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) (Honours) degree with an entry point to the programme appropriate for Higher Diploma graduates from relevant fields. The academic year consists of 3 trimesters and the programme is delivered in part-time mode over a minimum of 8 trimesters. There are a total of 192 credit points and students normally undertake 2 courses with 24 credit points in each trimester. The programme is delivered through a combination of face-to-face lectures and tutorials/workshops and online components taught by both RMIT and SHAPE staff. PROGRAMME OVERVIEW BEng (Hons) Building Services Engineering top-up degree is a comprehensive programme offered by SHAPE and the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment at UWE Bristol. Graduates will be well prepared to pursue careers such as mechanical building services engineer, electrical building services engineer, public health engineer, sustainability engineer, building energy modeler, construction MEP engineer and energy/facility maintenance engineer. The degree aims to build on the specialist skills students acquired in the Higher Diploma/Associate Degree and provide high level analytical thinking skills and techniques for undertaking complex engineering problems associated with Building Services Engineering. The programme also aims to give students the requisite knowledge, skills, creativity and enthusiasm to make a meaningful contribution to their profession. This programme includes elements such as evaluations of alternative low carbon services, the latest in computer based energy modelling of building fabric, complex lab-based analysis of mechanical services, real-world case studies of building performance and the latest interactive intelligent building systems. The educational aims of the programme are as follows: 1. develop the requisite science based knowledge and analytical skills for the formulation of appropriate, effective and sustainable solutions to engineering problems; 2. equip students with the management skills and personal attributes needed to provide leadership in the work environment, to meet the challenges, and recognise opportunities presented in a Building Information Modelling context; 3. give students the self-confidence and judgment to take leading roles in decision making; 4. provide opportunities to enable engineering students to advance their creative instinct, and apply multi-dimensional thinking in design and problem solving; 5. engender in students a sense of enquiry in all aspects of the subject, and provide tools to enable personal research to be undertaken in pursuit of answers to questions, and as a foundation to life-long learning; 6. develop such practical competences as are necessary to participate in activity undertaken in the laboratory, the engineering workshop, and the workplace generally; 7. enable students to demonstrate competent application of computer based skills, such as engineering simulations and encourage multi-perspective exploration and experimentation with related new technologies; and 8. provide an understanding of the role played by the building services engineering professions within the context of economic, social and environmental concerns.
