SHOWCASE 4 at Maitland Regional Art Gallery Exhibition Information for Teachers: Title of Show: SHOWCASE 4 : artwork by local Year 7-12 high school students Dates: 3 June 10 September 2017 Gallery: Art Factory upstairs, F3 SHOWCASE 4 is the fourth Showcase exhibition at Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) since 2013 which features recent artworks made by Year 7-12 students from high schools in the Maitland-Lower Hunter area. ABOUT THE EXHIBITION SHOWCASE 4 is an exciting opportunity for local high school students to exhibit recent artworks made at school at Maitland Regional Art Gallery to a large local and regional audience. The intention of SHOWCASE 4, as in previous MRAG Showcase exhibitions, is to present the ideas, concerns and creative explorations of young high school artists to MRAG audiences. SHOWCASE 4 will represent the most recent and dynamic student artworks that have been completed in Term 3 & 4, 2016 or during 2017 by local high school students. The emphasis of SHOWCASE 4 is on the diversity of creative expression from a range of young artists from Years 7-12 ; this is a great opportunity for you to select artworks by your students that reflect the range of ideas and processes explored by them in their art-making at school. The exhibition will be installed in the upstairs Art Factory exhibition space and you are invited to nominate artworks in a range of mediums including but not limited to 2D, photography, 3D, video and digital media. SHOWCASE 3 will be a curated exhibition: > Schools who would like to be represented in SHOWCASE 4 need to complete a Nomination Form. > Participating schools will nominate up to 6 artworks for possible inclusion and deliver these to MRAG. > MRAG staff will then select artworks to be exhibited that best reflect the range and diversity of each school s student artists. > Each participating school will have a minimum of 2 artworks exhibited; depending on how many schools nominate for the exhibition, this may increase. > Each participating school will be represented by the same number of artworks. Exhibition Organisation: Please read the details below; artwork sizes are a guide but please be mindful that in the interests of equity large art works are hard to accommodate. 1. SIZE and PRESENTATION OF ARTWORKS: 2D Photographs 3D Video and film 2D artworks are not restricted by theme or materials as long as they can fit into a standard stock frame 43 x 59 cm if appropriate. as above; or they may be put directly onto wall 3D artworks need to be able to safely installed in the gallery on shelf, plinth or directly on the floor if appropriate. 3D works must be less than 1m in any direction. MP4 format on a USB Framing and presentation: 2D artworks: Please submit without framing or mounting 3D artworks: Wrapped appropriately with any relevant instructions for display. No mounts, supports or dangerous or overly fragile materials please.

To be in SHOWCASE 4 Complete the SHOWCASE 4 Nomination Form (below) and email to Anne.McLaughlin @maitland.nsw.gov.au by Friday 17 February 2017 (Week 4, Term 1) When the number of schools in SHOWCASE 4 is known, the exact number of works to be submitted by each school will also be confirmed. Schools can select their own works or submit up to 6 for selection by MRAG staff. 3. Selection and delivery of artworks Please select up to 6 artworks from your school for possible inclusion in SHOWCASE 4 and complete the attached Artworks List. Complete the attached label for each artwork and attach securely to each artwork Deliver artworks with artworks list to MRAG on or before Friday 28 April 2017 - Week 1, Term 2 2017. SHOWCASE 4 Workshops As part of SHOWCASE 4 two FREE Friday workshops in Term 3 2017 for students from exhibiting schools will be held during the exhibition period. The workshops will be all-day and will include talking about artworks and ideas before moving into the workshop spaces for some practical art-making sessions led by our experienced art tutors. The workshops also aim to provide access for students for whom cost is an issue and who might not ordinarily attend such a workshop but who would benefit from the experience. Each participating school will be contacted in Term 1 to nominate one or two students to attend. 5. SHOWCASE 4 Poster Catalogue An exhibition catalogue poster for SHOWCASE 4 will be produced by MRAG with all schools and artists listed. Participating schools will be supplied with 4 catalogues. 6. Exhibition Conditions a. The artwork must have been completed in Term 3 or Term 4 2016 or Term 1 2017 in school art classes. b. The artwork must be entirely the work of the student artist. c. Each artwork must be labelled clearly with a completed SHOWCASE 4 label attached. d. MRAG reserves the right to make final decisions on artworks included in the exhibition on the basis of equity and appropriateness. d. SHOWCASE 4 Timeline a.
