An excellent introductory testing book By Yuqi Zheng As the title indicates, this book is an excellent guide to language testing. Henning makes great efforts to explain technical testing terms in very plain language. He covers almost all important aspects in testing, especially reliability and validity. His analysis is clear, detailed and thorough. Where computation is involved, a general introduction of the formula is followed by specific examples, which readers can understand without trouble. Chapter 4 ªItem Analysis: Item Uniqueness is very helpful, especially 4.1 Avoiding Problems at the Item- Writing Stage, which, in fact, can serve as a checklist for those who write or edit test items. Henning gives a summary at the end of each chapter, which not only makes his structure very clear, but also helps readers recapture what they have read in the chapter and get prepared for the following one. Henning creates some exercises for each chapter. Giving exercises is nothing rare in many testing books. However, what is uncommon here is that Henning offers reference answers to those questions, which are of great use to readers. What I have found equally nice are tables and glossary in the appendices. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the best introductory testing book. I strongly recommend it to
