Diagnostic Tests Begin your biology course with diagnostic tests to assess your students prior knowledge of both biology concepts and scientific practices. These assessments, available on Pearson Realize, will help guide your instruction during the course. Remediation activities are available based on your students results. These activities can be manually or automatically assigned to individual students. Copyright 2017 by Pearson Education, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 2
Lesson s Miller & Levine Biology uses a combination of formative and summative assessment opportunities to paint a comprehensive picture of student understanding. Ongoing formative assessment is built into each lesson. These assessments help you gauge your students understanding of the content and whether they are ready to move ahead. Quick lesson assessments and answer keys are available at point-of-use within your Teacher s Edition. Short quizzes are also provided on Pearson Realize at the end of each lesson to monitor your students understanding of lesson concepts. Copyright 2017 by Pearson Education, Inc. Benchmark s Use the benchmark tests found on Pearson Realize to track your students progress toward success on high-stakes tests. From the Table of Contents, click Labs, Problem-Based Learning, STEM, and Program Resources to access the tests. One benchmark test is provided for each unit. Click Info under each test for more information, including guidance, on when to assign the test to your students. These assessments are partially auto-graded, so you will only need to manually grade part of the test. The data will be imported into the Data tab in the top menu bar. Like the diagnostic assessments, remediation activities can be automatically assigned to students who struggle with content in a benchmark assessment, or you can manually select activities to assign. The list of activities is sorted by topic to help you differentiate support for your students. Copyright 2017 by Pearson Education, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 4

Print Chapter Tests You will find a test at the end of each chapter in the Student Edition and Teacher s Edition. Chapter Test A is an on-level assessment, and Chapter Test B is designed for struggling students. Copyright 2017 by Pearson Education, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 6
Digital Chapter Tests You can also administer the chapter test digitally on Pearson Realize. The online version comes in two forms as well-a and B. Like other digital assessments, some of the questions are autograded, while free-response items require manual grading. Remediation is available in the online version of the chapter test. Like remediation activities in other assessments, the activities are sorted by topic, and the program can automatically assign activities to students that are tailored to their individual needs. Problem-based Learning Projects Students perform a self-assessment using a rubric for the end-of-unit Problem-based Learning Projects. The projects are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, or NGSS. The rubrics help students assess both the creativity of their work as well as the content. Use these guidelines after students complete the self-assessment to assign a final score. Copyright 2017 by Pearson Education, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 11
