A flexible and diverse range of modules will enable you to tailor your MSc experience to suit your own interests and requirements.

Clinical Aspects of Psychology This one-year programme introduces students to topics in clinical psychology, focusing on abnormal psychological functioning and associated psychological treatments. The programme draws on expertise in the Charlie Waller Institute (CWI), a cognitive behavioural therapy training centre, and an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) training centre. The School is renowned for its clinical research and it has strong links with local hospitals and health authorities which makes this MSc an ideal springboard for clinical psychology training or related clinical and research posts. Cognitive Neuroscience This one-year programme provides a firm grounding in interdisciplinary cognitive neuroscience, psychology and neuropsychology. The Centre for Integrative Neuroscience & Neurodynamics (CINN) provides an excellent opportunity for learning about the latest advances in the field and getting involved in research studies that utilise cutting-edge techniques (MRI, EEG, TMS) This course will particularly appeal to those who wish to pursue academic, clinical, educational, health, and research careers where knowledge of the workings of the human cognitive system is relevant. Development and Psychopathology This one-year programme takes a lifespan approach to the study of psychological disorders. It typically attracts students who would like to focus on clinical, educational, health, academic and research careers. Resources in the School include the internationally renowned Winnicott Research Unit, which is a centre for the study of factors involved in the emergence of psychological disorders in childhood and adolescence. More generally, the School has research strengths in developmental psychology across the lifespan. Language Sciences This one-year programme prepares graduates in linguistics, education, psychology, and allied disciplines for research-related careers in the science of language and provides practising speech and language therapists with further professional training. Students on this programme will learn about the theoretical and philosophical context in which research in language sciences is designed, conducted, and interpreted; they will be introduced to a range of research methods in neuroscience of language and language development and disorders as well as detailed expertise in a subset relevant to their own research interests. Research Methods in Psychology This long-standing one-year programme provides training in key analytic skills that are essential for all psychologists, as well as in research methods in a variety of specific psychological fields. The provision of teaching and supervision by active researchers means that students have the opportunity to learn about, and be involved in, the latest research developments. The course is ideal preparation for a career in academic, clinical, educational or health psychology, or for careers in which data-analytic techniques are of relevance.
