Guardian Angels School Strategic Renewal Plan 2012-2016 ACHIEVEMENTS FOR 2012.Wynnum s Catholic learning community

for 2012 Mission and Religious Education This key area encompasses our Vision and Mission, Religious teaching, the spiritual development of each person, the importance of prayer and celebration, religious atmosphere and practices, sacramental program, parent involvement and peace and justice education. Strategic Intent 1.2 To implement a Religious Education Curriculum that promotes knowledge and deep understanding and skills about the Catholic and broader Christian tradition. To ensure ongoing awareness of developments and directions in the proposed Religious Education Curriculum. To explore ways in which the Virtues Program is understood and implemented across the school. To foster partnerships between Parish and school in relation to the Parish Sacramental program. Twilight PD with James Robinson to "Prepare the Soil" ahead of the implementation of the new RE curriculum. RE Implementation Team formed. Team participated in Professional Development opportunities focussing on the new RE Curriculum. Assembly presentation on the Virtues modified, setting it in the context of prayer. APRE liaised with Parish Sacramental Co-Ordinator to facilitate co-operation and support for preparation and celebration of the Sacraments. Principal, APRE and APA attended celebrations.

Strategic Intent 1.4 Provide a cohesive and integrated approach to the formation of staff. To provide spiritual formation opportunities for ALL staff Take measures to ensure that the new Parish Priest has the opportunity to be a real presence in the life of our school. Our staff continued our involvement in the Catching Fire program including allocating people and financial resources. Staff who have participated in Catching Fire shared ideas and experiences with colleagues where appropriate, especially staff meetings and informal gatherings. Staff participated in a twilight Professional Development session with Evelyn Chapman to enhance their understanding of Icons. Staff members were involved in writing an icon and were immersed in all components of the process. Father John invited and encouraged to attend and where appropriate to be involved in the prayer, liturgies, celebrations and all aspects of the day to day life of Guardian Angels. This has been a major area of achievement and celebration.

Strategic Intent 1.6 A shared understanding of and practical responses to Catholic social teaching. To provide opportunities for staff and students to enhance their understanding of their responsibilities in relation to Catholic social teaching. To ensure our community understands the rationale behind the selection of charities to support throughout the year. A group of senior students, along with students from St John Vianney s, participated in a workshop focussing on the directions of Caritas and Project Compassion. A concerted whole school approach to fundraising for Project Compassion was undertaken. Parents educated about the principal charity organisations supported throughout the school; ie Caritas, Childrens Mission, St Vincent de Paul, Rosies.

for 2012 Learning and Teaching Strategic Intent 2.2 Implementation of the Australian Curriculum within the context of the BCE Learning Framework as a means of realising equity and excellence. To continue staff familiarisation and engagement with the Australian Curriculum in English, Maths, Science and History. Lead Teacher in History presented Professional Development day in January Curriculum Support Teacher continued to take a lead role in ongoing Professional Learning for staff. CST provided each teacher with a resource pack to support teaching and learning in the context of the Australian Curriculum across KLAs. English Focus Group to provided focussed learning opportunities for all staff in this KLA. Science twilight (in conjunction with SJV) conducted 12 March Provided opportunities for staff to disseminate knowledge gained at PD days at staff meetings.

Strategic Renewal Plan 20012-2016 for 2012 TEACHING AND LEARNING (continued). Strategic Intent 2.3 Improved literacy and Numeracy standards Review the practice of standardised testing as a basis for instruction. Implement a Enrichment Program in Years 5-7 initially with a view to providing opportunities for excellence. To review programs and texts regularly to best serve the needs of students. An Enrichment Teacher was employed 2 days per week to assist teachers in facilitating learning opportunities for identified groups of students. Involvement in Tournament of Minds. This has been a major success with staff, students and parents. A selection of possible texts was provided when determining book lists for 2013. This resulted in the introduction of new resources across year levels to maximise consistency.

for 2012 Teaching and Learning (continued) Strategic Intent 2.5 Comprehensive whole school approaches provide pastoral care, protection of students, student behaviour support and foster social and emotional well-being. To review our whole school approach to behaviour teaching and learning. Jan PD day - Session outlining principles of Glasser and Mindfields to familiarise new staff and provide refresher for current staff. Guidance Counsellor established a Boys Club to support boys in Years 4 to 7 and a Girl Power group for girls in Years 5-7. Guidance Counsellor ran a Seasons for Growth program to provide support for students whose parents had separated, divorced, or died. New Student Protection reporting processes outlined to staff July 2012. Introduction of Class Co-ordinators to act as liaison with parents to allow for pastoral care issues to be known and addressed.

for 2012 Professional Practice and Collaborative Relationships Strategic Intent 3.3 A comprehensive approach to staff well-being and development including professional learning, professional standards, performance management and pastoral care. Continue the practice of Professional Goal Setting and Review for all teachers, extending the program to include School Officers in Term 2. Investigate the formation of Focus Groups in English and ICLT. Professional sharing at scheduled staff meetings. Goal setting and review process formalised through the implementation of a Performance Development Program for all staff. Administration Team tracked staff goals and aligned with PD opportunities where possible. Support through Induction and Mentoring programs for our new graduate teacher. Purchased and installed either a Smart TV, Data Projector or Interactive Whiteboard in all classrooms.

for 2012 Professional Practice and Collaborative Relationships Strategic Intent 3.8 Consultative and Collaborative Partnerships are evident among schools and between schools and BCE. Shared professional learning opportunities including CTJ, Science To promote collegial friendships through the sharing in social activities with the staffs of other Catholic schools. A twilight session on the new Science Curriculum was held at SJV on March 12. Regular meetings between the CSTs of the appropriate schools to facilitate the CTJ process. Prep and Early Years teachers met with teachers at network meetings to share ideas, resources and strategies to enhance learning and teaching. Worked with BCEC personnel to provide PD to enhance understanding of the new curriculum. Termly social event with staff from St John Vianney s to promote collegiality.

for 2012 Strategic Resourcing Strategic Intent 4.5 Information and Learning Management Systems enhance student and staff engagement with learning, teaching and school operations. Support a Lead Teacher in setting up student workspaces and then training other staff members to set up and utilise these. Formation of a Technology Working Party across the school to explore pedagogical practice and resourcing. Organised a process led by the key teacher and the working party for the school to engage with the BCEC learning management innovation. The ICLT working party met regularly to discuss the direction for the school and to oversee the spending of the budget and any associated grants. Provided PD for staff on strategies to embed ICLTs into the learning and teaching of all KLAs in the classroom Purchased and installed either a Smart TV, Data Projector or Interactive Whiteboard in all classrooms.

for 2012 Strategic Resourcing (continued) Strategic Intent 4.6 Sustainable environmental practices are embedded into the organisational structure and processes of schools. Establish a Sustainability Group and a Key Teacher to implement environmentally sound practices within school operations. A staff member was nominated to provide practical support in the form of PD and resourcing. Garden Club established. Recycling program expanded.
