4. The Board reviewed student releases. 5. The Board reviewed contracts/purchases. 6. The Board reviewed the 2011-2012 Testing Results. Dr. Hobbs stated that our focus will be on reading as we introduce Common Core/Essential Standards and we will have all new assessments and typically test scores drop with trying to figure formulas to calculate. 7. The Board reviewed field trips. 8. The Board reviewed the July schedule of activities. Dr. Hobbs informed the Board that he would send them an agenda for the Summer Leadership Retreat and invited all to attend. He also invited the Board of Education members to attend the convocation on August 7, 2012. Comments Frank Brown stated that the graduations were very nice. He stated that he has enjoyed working with Dr. Brown and Mr. Vestal on the Board. He also stated a special thanks to Gale Hill and Dr. Cook and appreciated what they have done for Yadkin County Schools. Hazel Brown stated it had been a wonderful 12 years on the Board and she bid all ado. Joe Dezern stated he had attended graduation and they were very nice. He stated parents had questions regarding the venue, but he thought it added a nice touch and he commended the school administration parents and students. Howard McKnight stated he agreed with Joe Dezern concerning graduation. Rex Baity thanked Hazel Brown for her 12 years of service to the Board and Larry Vestal for his 4 years of service. He also welcomed the student representative from the Yadkin Early College. Larry Vestal stated he had thoroughly enjoyed his 4 years on the Board and that Yadkin County Schools had a great staff. Dr. Hobbs welcomed Denise Bullin to Yadkin County Schools and thanked Gale for all she has done. He also stated that Denise needed to bring money from Forsyth County. Dr. Hobbs informed the Board he had placed information in their folders concerning the budget and if Governor Perdue vetoes this budget that they would not be back in session on July 2. Dr. Hobbs discussed the budget with the Board and the following points concerning Senate Bill 795: K-3 Literacy this ends social promotion of third-graders who do not demonstrate reading proficiency but has a new provision allowing the superintendent to determine if a student may be exempt from mandatory retention, if both the teacher and principal submit a written recommendation and documentation on why the exception should be made.

School Performance Grade this changes the school report cards to require grades of A-F (along with a 0-100 scale), with mandatory listing of the grades on the school website and notices to parents of students in schools scoring D and F. No student growth component is included in these scores. Funding five additional instructional days this Bill provides $40,168 for the noninstructional support allotment and $351,469 for the transportation allotment to cover costs that will be incurred by the few LEAs that did not receive a waiver for expanding their school year to 185 days and 1,025 hours for 2012-2013. Waivers already granted by the State Board of Education will remain in place. In addition this Bill starts the process of developing performance-pay for licensed personnel and does away with tenure for teachers. The budget will also fund a 1.2% pay increase for all state employees and school personnel. #12-056 On motion by H. McKnight, seconded by Vestal, the Board adjourned at 7:15p.m. Adjournment: Dr. L.
