A School of the Anglican Schools Commission Inc. 2015 2019

P a g e 2 o f 1 0 The Peter Moyes Anglican Community School is one of the Anglican Schools Commission (ASC) system of schools. The School is named after Peter Moyes, the Commission s first Director and former Headmaster of Christ Church Grammar School whose vision in establ ishing the Commission was to develop affordable Anglican schools in Western Australia that provided a high quality, socially inclusive and caring Christian education. As an ASC School we seek to demonstrate and advocate to our students, Staff and the wide r community the worth of the ASC s six principal values: : Living the Gospel values : Pursuing high standards in all things : Demonstrating fairness, compassion and conviction : Respecting self, others and our planet : Acting with honesty and openness : Promoting social inclusion and celebrating difference. These principal values have been used to develop the Vision, Values and Beliefs of the School. As a Christian community in the Anglican tradition, the Scho ol wishes to engender the following Vision, Values and Beliefs within our students, Staff and wider community: - the pursuit of rational truth through learning - recognising the values needed to promote human equity, trust and acceptance of diversity - recognising the importance of developing a purposeful mind, body and spirit - encouraging the potential in all to achieve and promoting personal accountability for actions and respect for the rights of others - through the emergence of a self-esteem based on consideration and respect encouraging the acknowledgement of the worth of others. It is the unique mix of faith, reason and knowledge that our School provides that is at the heart of our vision to provide students with the ability to live true and full lives. (Julian Dowse, School Principal, outlining his Vision of the School, June, 2014) The contribution of the Parent community is fundamental to the School achieving its goals and objectives.

P a g e 3 o f 1 0 Our School seeks to focus on the needs and development of the whole person. These are incorporated in the range of activities experienced principally by our students and Staff, but also by o ur School families, in the formal and informal elements of the School s curriculum. The School recognises and believes that: All students are able to learn; Learning is best conducted in a safe environment, where mistakes can be made without ridicule; The focus of School life must be a holistic one that includes the full and balanced development of each member of the School community intellectual, aesthetic, emotional, moral, physical, social, and spiritual. A healthy balance must exist between the demands of School and home life for students, Staff and parents. Learning best occurs when the learner integrates experience, imagination, information and application. Regular support and assistance to learning is vital for teachers, students and parents. Students are recognised, appreciated and accepted for their uniqueness. The School aspires to excellence, enabling students to achieve their full potential and pursue their chosen pathway. It seeks to be a school where all students become successful learn ers, confident and competent individuals, and active and informed citizens. As an Anglican School we will maintain a strong focus on Faith, Reason and Knowledge. We will continue to be distinguished by our Visions, Values and Beliefs and demonstrated excel lence in standards of teaching, learning and pastoral care, The Strategic Plan is built on Four Cornerstones. As in the Gospel, these cornerstones represent the foundation for our work and priorities as an Anglican school. Our School is a proud member of the Anglican Schools Commission system of schools and is also a distinct worshipping community within the Anglican Diocese of Perth. Members of the School community are encouraged to explore Christian beliefs, to think, to feel and t o respect differences, without denigration of other identifiable value systems. We aim to develop each person s faith and to assist each in their own spiritual and social development. We encourage the pursuit of personal excellence with compassion and consideration for others. Opportunities are created to challenge and inspire our students, focusing on the needs of the whole person; the intellectual, aesthetic, moral, spiritual, emotional, physical and social domains. We provide an extensive range of curricular and co-curricular activities, integrating experiences that develop knowledge and personal wellbeing. We value the pursuit of excellence in academic achievement and insight into the world of learning.

P a g e 4 o f 1 0 We seek to build mutually respectful relationships within the School. By maintaining and strengthening a culture of diversity, tolerance, inclusion and understanding we seek to enhance our student s sense of belonging and engagement with their wid er community. We recognise the importance of maintaining and developing the reputation of the School. Our students, staff, parents, friends and past students, share responsibility for the further development of the School. We believe our vision and purpose is best achieved through the pursuit of excellence in teaching, innovation, leadership, teamwork, collaboration and demonstration of our Christian principles. The strategic priorities for each cornerstone are: Enhancing engagement with the Anglican faith and traditions by the School community Affirming our Anglican tradition and ethos through the construction of a School Chapel Building upon the strength of our Anglican communities, including the ASC Schools system Continuing to promote our values and culture of inclusivity for students, Staff and School families Developing the ICT environment to enhance teaching and learning Attracting and retaining Staff of the highest calibre Building the capacity of Staff through a focus on teaching and learning Implementing programmes to develop high performing teams and build leadership capacity Empowering and developing innovative and effective Staff Providing opportunities for students growth and leadership Recognising the importance of the contribution of Parents to the development of the School Promoting programmes and structures to support mental health and student and School families wellbeing Building capacity to support students and families managing the challenges of contemporary society Enabling and developing the use of School facilities by our wider community Providing opportunities for students to engage in their c ommunity as active global citizens Recruiting and developing a high calibre and diverse School Council Investigating the opportunities for broadening the provision of early childhood education Developing a Building Master Plan beyond 2018 In reinforcing these ambitions the School believes it is necessary to focus on the above matters, without excluding any matters of educational importance and/or School governance and administration over the next five years.
