CLASS OF 2022! In high school, you will have many opportunities to choose from and several paths you can take.

Counselors are available to assist you with questions about your plans.

WHAT ARE CAREER ACADEMIES? They are small learning community with a career theme. Classes are taught with the career theme in mind and may include projects and assignments that involve multiple classes. Students take classes together with the same group of teachers throughout high school. Academy students get to participate in enrichment activities (field trips, guest speakers, internships, mentoring, volunteering, college classes and career-based activities) that help them learn more about what they want to do when they graduate from high school.

WHAT ARE CAREER ACADEMIES? All 8 th grade students may apply to any of the Goose Creek Academies regardless of the high school to which they are zoned. Transportation is provided if needed. Students can still participate in extra-curricular activities like athletics, cheer, and band if they are on a main high school campus Students can also join Career and Technical Education Organizations like Future Business Leaders of America, SkillsUSA, and HOSA. Students must complete the full application process to be considered for an academy.

Spartan Facts The first graduating class had 89 students, all graduated with their high school diploma and 63 graduated from Lee College with their Associate s Degree. The estimated cost for an Associate s Degree is between $6,000 and $9,000. Students who are pursuing careers requiring 6-8 years of college will have a two year head start, for example Physicians, Dentists, Lawyers, etc Clubs, Organizations, and Activities are an important part of Spartan life! Academics are the focus, but we have fun too! Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities at the home campus if it fits in their schedule, or after school, (parents are responsible for transportation). Spartans make it a priority to contribute to the community. Through tutorials, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, and various community organizations. We give back to the community that has given so much to us!

COURSE SELECTION CARD SECTION I: CORE CONTENT COURSES ENGLISH: ENGLISH 1 OR ENGLISH 1 PRE-AP MATH: ALGEBRA 1, PRE-AP ALGEBRA I, OR GEOMETRY PRE-AP (for students in Algebra I) SCIENCE: BIOLOGY OR BIOLOGY PRE-AP SOCIAL STUDIES: WORLD GEOGRAPHY OR PRE-AP WORLD GEOGRAPHY OR WORLD HISTORY OR PRE-AP WORLD HISTORY OR AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY OR AP WORLD HISTORY

ALTERNATIVE COURSES Choose alternate courses equaling 2.5-3 credits Alternate courses will be used if there is a scheduling conflict. Alternate courses will be used in order listed. Place alternate courses in rank order.

HIGH SCHOOL COURSE SELECTION EXPECTATIONS A course can be taken only once for credit. High School Counselors will visit Junior School in December Changes can be made through May 5 th. Please select your classes carefully. Dropping/Adding Courses Cannot drop a course after the 4 th week of class (exception AP/Pre-AP changes) You will be academically ineligible for UIL participation if a course is dropped after the 4 th week Pre-Advanced and Advanced Courses (Pre-AP & AP) Must stay in the course until the end of the first 6-weeks To change, parents must conference with the teacher Academic Deans must approve all AP or Pre-AP changes

GRADES & ACADEMIC CLASS RANK You will receive credit for courses when you make a 70 or above and attend school at least 90% of the time. If you are in an extra curricular activity, you can not play if you do not pass. You can not participate in extra curricular activities in college if you have grades below a 70. If you fail a course you can make it up in summer school or credit recovery classes. Your grades will impact your rank. Rank is important for scholarships and college admission. Remember, take challenging courses (Pre-AP, AP and/or Dual Credit) and make the best grades you can. You will receive more grade points for doing well in advanced courses.

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION Your high school will hold a freshman orientation before school actually starts. This is helpful because you learn your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers. You will also get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces.
