HI Parents / Carers From the Principal A huge congratulations to our School Leaders for 2018. We had a lovely ceremony to induct them yesterday and we thank our families and special guests for coming along, in particular Tara Murray, from Hastings Deering, and Tiny Clarke from the Rockhampton RSL sub branch. School Leaders: Jessie Neale and Logan Smith Sports Leader (Archer): Lincoln Newman and Jackson Daniels Sports Leader (Jardine): Brianna Hill and Jessie Neale School Council Reps: Matthew Maloney, Ellanore Clark, Kayla Jones and Lincoln Newman. Even though we have six official leadership titles, you don t need a badge to be a leader. Students in s 5-6 have a Halogen Pin to remind them of their leadership journey at camp last week; a memento of their commitment to showing leadership and courage, and to inspire others by the behaviour that they model. Camp Last week Miss Shearman, Mrs Baxter and myself took all 5 and 6 students to Brisbane for a Leadership Camp. We visited Government House and Parliament House, which links to our work in Civics and Citizenship; and visited the Planetarium, the Sciencentre and The Cube in QUT, which links with our work in Science and Technologies. To finish the camp, we attended the National Young Leaders Day where we heard from a variety of speakers including John Coutis (Leadership Speaker), Jack Heath (Author), Harrison Craig (Singer) and Holly Ferling (Australian Women s Cricket Player). It was an absolute privilege to take the students on the camp and we thank our parents, P&C, Student Council and Port Curtis Road State School for funding the trip. Bring on 2020! Once we have downloaded all of the photos, we will send them home with students as I am sure they would like to share their journey with you. Just a reminder that swimming will resume on Wednesday this week for all students in s 1-6. P&C Unfortunately, we were unable to hold our AGM this week and a general P&C meeting has taken place. Please keep an eye out for future correspondence regarding our AGM. National Day of Action Against Bullying Next Friday (16 ) we will be raising awareness for the National Day of Action Against Bullying. We will be talking to students about friendly behaviours and speaking up when required. We will be holding formal parent/teacher interviews in Week 10 of this term. Please see the attached note to this newsletter and return it back to school with three preferences that suit you to discuss your child s progress. It will be first in best dressed so be sure to return your note promptly. Student Absences: Every Day Matters Every Day is a Learning Day. Please advise the school if your child is/or will be away.
Funky Hair Day Next Friday (16 ) will be taking part in Funky Hair Day. Funky Hair Day is the Leukaemia Foundation fundraiser. We encourage students to get creative with their hairstyles for a gold coin donation. Our newly appointed Student Council Reps will collect the donations from students who take part in the fundraiser on Friday morning. New Interactive Whiteboards Our P&C was successful in applying for a grant to assist with costs associated with replacing our Interactive Whiteboards. These whiteboards will be installed in all three classrooms and should arrive this week. Some of our Leadership Camp 2018 Photos Mrs Jo Northey, PRINCIPAL
