Mrs Bensted and her family on the recent passing of her father. Dear Parents, Children and Friends, FATHERS DAY BREAKFAST It was a delight to welcome a large number of Dads and children, along with a sprinkling of Grandfathers, to our breakfast last Friday. There was a strong feeling of togetherness as families mixed together to share a meal. Thank you to all who attended! I must also pay a special thanks to all of our staff members who generously arrived at school at 6.45am to prepare the breakfast. Your contribution ensured it was a very memorable morning. Finally, thank you to Father Matthew for providing a special blessing on all of the dads who were present. ATHLETICS CARNIVALS I look forward to seeing a great turn out of parents for the Jumps and Throws Day on Wednesday and the Athletics Carnival on Friday. The weather promises to be beautiful for both days as the students battle it out for champion House. Congratulations to Miss Ryan for her work in organising the carnival. Many hours have been spent in marking the oval and preparing the students. Thank you Tenille! Further information on the timetable for both days was sent home to families last week and is included again later in the newsletter. G O L D F I E L D S D R A M A EISTEDDFOD Parents and friends are invited to join the students and staff in the Kamballie Grandstand from 1.30pm this Thursday, September 7, for the annual Eisteddfod. Each of the classes from Pre-Primary to Year Six, along with a group from Hannans Primary School, will be presenting an item of poetry that they have been learning over this term. It is always an entertaining experience. OPEN NIGHT All families are asked to visit the school on Tuesday, September 19, between 5-7pm for the annual Open Night. More complete details are provided by Mr Shaw later in the newsletter. KINDY/PRE-KINDY ENROLMENTS Kindergarten interviews have now been completed and letters of offer have been sent to all families who were successful in gaining a position. We have a full class for next year. Mr Shaw and myself are presently carrying out interviews for the three year program for 2018. As places are limited and demand is very strong, I would encourage any family who has not applied for a position for next year to do so immediately. YEAR SIX CAMP A highlight of the year for the Year Six class is their annual camp in Perth, which takes place next week. Miss Miles, Mr Shaw and a number of parent helpers will accompany the students as they partake in a range of educational, cultural and social experiences. I hope that they thoroughly enjoy their time away and come back with many stories that they can share with us. BOOK WEEK DRESS UP DAY What a wonderful array of costumes we had on display yesterday to celebrate Book Week. The children and their families had obviously gone to a great deal of trouble to find a character and make a costume. Thank you for your support of this event; students and staff had a most enjoyable morning displaying their outfits! DIRECTORS VISIT The two directors from CEWA, Debra Sayce and Gerry Doyle, who visited St Joseph s School last week, were very complimentary of the time they spent with us. As well as touring the school and meeting with me, they spent time visiting the classrooms and sharing morning tea with the staff. They paid a special compliment to the modern and well-maintained facilities that we offer. May God bless our school and those within it. Mr Greg Wyss - Principal

CURRICULUM NEWS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OPEN NIGHT Our annual Open Night will take place on Tuesday 19 September from 5.00-7.00pm. This is always an exciting event as it provides another opportunity for students to share their work and learning from the term. Students are already excited about the opportunity to share their work with you. Students will share work samples from each learning area, in both a process (interactive activity) and product (final piece of work) form. While our classrooms are always open to parents, this night acts as an official showcase of student work samples and an opportunity to share progress with parents. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 19 September. TERM THREE SCHOOL MASSES The dates for our school masses this term are listed below. I encourage members of our community to join us during these Eucharistic celebrations. ST JOSEPH S HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL & JUMPS/THROWS DAY Jumps and Throws Day taking place on Wednesday 6th September from 10:00am and the St Joseph s House Athletics Carnival on Friday 8th September from 10.00am. We would like to invite all of our families to join us from 10:00am on Wednesday morning and from 10.00am on Friday as our children participate in a variety of games and running events to decide the House Athletics Shield for 2017. Children are encouraged to bring sunscreen, a healthy lunch, plenty of water and a mascot dressed up in their House colours. This year, our parents, teachers and faction captains compete for the Golden Baton Award in the around the marker relay at the conclusion of the carnival. We invite all parents to share lunch with their students from 12.50pm until 1.15pm. The canteen will be closed and the P&F will be holding a sausage sizzle and will be selling hamburgers on the day. As well as recognising the gifts and talents of children who excel in athletics and team games, we are also promoting maximum participation at this event. All children will be involved in all games and a selection of running races. This 2 hour seminar will leave parents feeling more confident and better able to deal positively and effectively with common child behavioural and emotional issues. Two seminars will be offered next term, one in the morning and one in the evening. Seminar : The Power of Positive Parenting: Wednesday 4 Oct 9.30 am 11.30 am Tuesday 7 November 6 pm - 8 pm There is no cost to attend, however, bookings are essential. A crèche is available by arrangement. For more information or to register, please contact Population Health on 9080 8200.
