Paving the Way for Success: FRESHMAN PARENTS 4) Be supportive & positive about school. - School and transitions are hard! 5) Help them handle the tough times, but don t do it for them. - Remind students it s OK to have a teacher you don t like, a rigorous class, or an awkward social moment. Offer support, but also give them a chance to navigate on their own and build skills. 6) Monitor their digital devices. - Students can get distracted, lose sleep, and develop drama with social media. Be informed of their activities! 7) Pay attention to any changes in behavior. - Significant changes (eating, sleeping, isolation) may be a concern.
