Green Mountain College Application Instructions Thank you for your interest in Green Mountain College. The following instructions are designed to assist you with any questions that you may have in the course of completing this application for admission. Please type or neatly print responses to all relevant questions on the application. In addition, be sure to complete the personal statement. Sign and date the application, and return it together with a non-refundable $30 application fee. If your application is postmarked by December 31, the fee will be waived. TIMING Green Mountain College accepts applications and processes them on a rolling admissions basis. Once we have received all necessary information, admissions decisions are generally made in 10-15 days, and you will be notified by mail. TRANSCRIPTS AND TESTS First-time Freshmen: An official high school transcript, including your senior-year schedule, must accompany your application. In addition, if you are submitting test scores, your SAT or ACT exam scores should be forwarded to GMC from the testing service or via your official transcript. If you are opting not to submit test scores, you will be required to complete the Insight Portfolio (on pages 8 9) and submit a graded high school paper. Transfer Students: Official transcripts of all previous college work must accompany your application. For transfer students who have attempted less than 24 credit-hours of college work (at the time of application), an official high school transcript must also be provided. In addition, results from either the SAT or ACT exams are optional for those students who have attempted a minimum of 15 credit-hours. RECOMMENDATIONS All students applying for admission must provide at least one recommendation from a teacher or counselor. PERSONAL INTERVIEWS We highly recommend that students visit campus for a personal interview and tour. PERSONAL STATEMENT This personal statement helps us become acquainted with you as an individual in ways different from courses, grades, test scores, and other objective data. Please write an essay (250-500 words) on a topic of your choice or on one of the options listed below. Please attach your essay on a separate sheet. 1. Write an essay about how your view of the world has changed as the result of a novel, movie, song, or another work of art or literature. 2. Describe an important issue facing your school, community, or region and what you believe should be done to address the problem. 3. Discuss your expectations for college. What are you most looking forward to, and what (if anything) worries you? I understand this application must be complete (transcript, a minimum of one teacher recommendation, standardized examination scores or alternative, and application fee) before any consideration can be given by the Committee on Admissions. I further understand that the $30 application fee, which must accompany this application, is not refundable.
