RECOMMENDATIONS for ACADEMIC APPOINTMENTS AND PROMOTIONS for the period from August 7, 1981 to September 11, 1981 SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES Appointments The appointment of Dr. Joshua Aizenman as Assistant Professor of Economics in the Standing Faculty for four years effective July 1, 1981 (full salary; tenure probationary period begins July 1, 1981). Mandatory tenure review date is academic year 1986-87. The appointment of Dr. Daniel A. Bauer as Research Assistant Professor of Physics in the Associated Faculty for three years effective July 1, 1981 (full salary; benefits appropriate to rank; without obligation on the part of the University to continue salary and benefits beyond termination of research funds; not in tenure probationary status in this appointment). The appointment of Dr. Ronald S. Burton as Assistant Professor of Biology in the Standing Faculty for four years effective July 1, 1981 (full salary; period of tenure probation begins July 1, 1981). CHANGES A change in the salary status for Dr. Stephen Gale, Associate Professor of Regional Science in the Standing Faculty, for one year effective January 1, 1982 to: partial salary from research funds; full benefits to continue. A change in the period of appointment (three years) for Dr. Peter S. Petraitis, Assistant Professor of Biology in the Standing Faculty, to: four years effective July 1, 1981. A change in the period and salary status of the scholarly leave of absence for Dr. Sidney Weintraub, Professor of Economics in the Standing Faculty, to the period of January 1, 1982 to December 31, 1982 with up to one-half salary; appropriate benefits continued. RESIGNATIONS The resignation of Dr. Frank J. Pinski, Research Assistant Professor of Physics in the Associated Faculty, effective August 31, 1981. The resignation of Dr. Larzer Ziff, Professor of English in the Standing Faculty, effective August 31, 1981. SCHOOL OF DENTAL MEDICINE REAPPOINTMENTS The reappointment and change in title and salary status for Dr. Maxwell Stanford Fogel (Adjunct Professor, without salary) to: Clinical Professor of Orthodontics in the Associated Faculty of the School of Dental Medicine for three years retroactive to July 1, 1979 (partial salary: not in tenure probationary status in this appointment). The reappointment of and change of title and tenure status for Dr. Norman Lurie from Assistant Professor (tenure accruing) to Assistant Professor of Form and Function of the Masticatory System in Clinical Dentistry in the Standing Faculty--Clinician-Educator--of the School of Dental Medicine for three years effective July 1, 1981 (full salary, reappointment subject to the stipulations given in Guidelines for Appointments and Promotions, May 6, 1981 or as amended). This appointment carries a ten-year, non-tenure probationary period which began July 1, 1978. The clinician-educator review is the academic year 1986-87. SECONDARY APPOINTMENT The secondary appointment of Dr. Nabil Abaza, Clinical Associate Professor of Oral Surgery in the Associated Faculty of the School of Dental Medicine, as Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology for three years effective July 1, 1981 without voting rights.

447 CHANGE Change in title, salary, and tenure status for Dr. Paul J. Berson (Assistant Professor; fully salaried; in tenure probation) to Clinical Assistant Professor of Form and Function of the Masticatory System in the Associated Faculty from July 1, 1981 to June 30, 1983 (partial salary; not in tenure probationary status in this appointment. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION The appointment of Dr. David S. Webster as Assistant Professor of Education for three years effective July 1, 1981 (full salary; tenure probation begins July 1, 1981). The mandatory tenure review is academic year 1986-87. GRADUATE SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS CHANGE A correction of salary status for Mr. John A. Bower, Professor of Architecture in the Standing Faculty, retroactive to July 1, 1973 from full to partial salary with a commensurate benefit base. LAW SCHOOL LEAVES OF ABSENCE A scholarly leave of absence for Mr. George L. Haskins, Professor of Law in the Standing Faculty for the Fall term, 1982 with full salary; benefits continued and a scholarly leave of absence for the fall term 1983 without salary; full benefits continued. SCHOOL OF MEDICINE APPOINTMENTS The appointment of Dr. Leon Axel as Assistant Professor of Radiology in the Standing Faculty of the School of Medicine, for three years effective July 1, 1981 (full salary; period of tenure probation begins July 1, 1981). Tenure review date is academic year 1986-87. A secondary appointment as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics for the same period of time without voting rights. The appointment of Dr. Susan C. Day as Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Standing Faculty of the School of Medicine, for the period of October 1, 1981 to June 30, 1984 (full salary; period of tenure probation Tenure review date is academic year 1989-90. The appointment of Dr. Eliot H. Nierman as Assistant Professor of Medicine at Graduate Hospital in the Standing Faculty--Clinician-Educator--of the School of Medicine retroactive to July 1, 1981 (full salary; reappointment subject to the stipulations given in Guidelines for Appointments and Promotions, May 6, 1981 or as amended). 449 The appointment of Dr. Andrij Holian as Research Assistant Professor of Medicine, in the Associated Faculty of the School of Medicine for three years effective July 1, 1981 or for the duration of the grant or contract which supports his work, whichever is the shorter period of time (full salary with benefits appropriate to rank; without obligation on the part of the University to continue salary and benefits beyond termination of these funds; not in tenure probationary status in this appointment). Mandatory review date is academic year 1986-87. The appointment of Dr. Hratch Kasparian as Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Associated Faculty of the School of Medicine, for three years effective July 1, 1981 (without salary; not in tenure probationary status in this appointment). The appointment of Dr. Warren K. 451 REAPPOINTMENTS The reappointment of and change in title, salary and academic status for Dr. Robert J. Kreb, III from Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Standing Faculty (full salary; tenure probation) to Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Associated Faculty of the School of Medicine, for three years effective July 1, 1981 (partial salary; not in tenure probationary status in this appointment). Three years (from July 1, 1978 to June 30, 1981) were in tenure probation. The reappointment of Dr. Maurizio Pacifici as Visiting Assistant Professor of Anatomy in the Associated Faculty of the School of Medicine, for one year effective July 1, 1981 (full salary; not in tenure probationary status in this appointment). The reappointment of and change in salary status and home department for Dr. David M. Raezer from Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology in Surgery (without salary) to Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Associated Faculty of the School of Medicine, for three years effective July 1, 1981 (partial salary; not in tenure probationary status in this appointment).
