ST MARY S COLLEGE UNIFORM POLICY 1. INTRODUCTION The wearing of the College uniform is directly related to the values of stewardship and respect. Stewardship is concerned with acting responsibly with the physical environment, the ethos and image of the College within the broader community. It recognises that our actions affect the spirit of the College, the image of the College and perceptions of the student community. Respect calls each person to an awareness of their own dignity and the dignity of others. The College uniform provides safety and a sense of identity and belonging. It acts to remind the public that the whole community shares in the responsibility to care for and protect children. The uniform is a visible and public statement that the girls are children or young women and students of St Mary s College. The benefits of the College uniform also bring obligations. The College expects that while wearing the uniform, all students behave in a manner that is consistent with the values of the College and contributes positively to the image of the College. It similarly expects that each item of the uniform is worn in the manner consistent with its design and function. 2.
