The School Year Students remain in the same classes for the entire school year. 7 Period schedule 7 classes ; 4 academic classes and up to 3 electives. Classes are approximately 48-50 minutes per class, with the exception of lunch period Final grades will be posted at the end of the school year. Students receive progress report/grades every 4 ½ weeks.

Graduation Requirements All students are required to earn the following credits to graduate with the Class of 2022: *English/Language Arts 4 units *Math 4 units *Science 4 units *Social Studies 4 units CTAE, Foreign Language, and/or Fine Arts 3 units Personal Fitness and Health 1 unit Note: Students may take 3 years of ROTC in place of PE/ Health Electives 3 units Total Units Required (Minimum) * Core courses 23 units
Physical Education Courses All students are required to complete Personal Fitness and Health. Students may elect to take other physical education courses such as weight training, team sports, or recreational games as elective courses. This does not fulfill the CTAE/Fine Art/Foreign Language requirement needed for graduation.
Earning Credits Students receive 1 credit for each class that is taken and passed with a 70 or better. Students who fail a class receive no credit for that class. *All failed academic classes need to be retaken and passed to graduate. Credits are issued at the end of the school year. Official grade point averages begin once final grades post for the freshman year.
Transcript & GPA A transcript is a record of grades and units earned from grade 9 12, including standardized test scores. Each course grade is final and becomes a part of the transcript. The average of all final grades is called a GPA (grade point average).

Promotion & Graduation Promotion & Graduation is based on the number of units earned. 10 th grade = 5 units (3 core and 2 electives) 11 th grade = 11 units 12 th grade = 17 units 23 units to graduate A student must enter the school year with the necessary number of units to be classified as a sophomore, junior or senior. Grade classification will not be changed during the school year.

Dual Enrollment Dual enrollment is for students at eligible high schools that wish to take college level coursework for credit towards both high school and college graduation requirements. Newton locations/ Requirements: Georgia Perimeter College- Georgia State University: Must be 16 years old or at least a junior in high school; SAT/ ACT required; 3.0 GPA). Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC): 9 th Grade students accepted; Accuplacer required; No GPA requirement). Attendance & Tardies Ten unexcused absences per year = NO CREDIT for the course. Five parent notes are allowed per year. After 5 absences, all other excused absences must be notes from the doctor/court. If the student was failing the course, the failing grade will be on the transcript. If the student was not failing, NC will be on the transcript. Tardies (To school and to class): 1-4 Tardies= No disposition 5 Tardies = Saturday Work Detail 6 Tardies = 1 Day of In School Suspension 7 Tardies = 1 Day of Suspension 8 Tardies= 2 Days of Suspension 9 Tardies= 3 Days of Suspension 10+ Tardies= 5 Days Suspension
Testing 9 th Grade- EOCs: 9 th grade Lit., Biology, and Algebra I *Students may take the PSAT for a fee. 10 th Grade- EOCs: Analytic Geometry and Physical Science * Students may take the PSAT for free. 11 th Grade- EOCs: American Lit. and U.S. History *Students may take PSAT again in the fall for a fee and the SAT/ACT in the spring. They may also take the ASVAB. 12 th Grade- EOCs: Economics *Students may take the SAT/ACT for a fee. They may also take the ASVAB.
