Pre-Professional Society of the College of Science and Engineering (PPS-CES) Constitution Preamble We the students of Wilkes University for the purpose of advancing the professionalism and career interests of all students within the College of Science and Engineering, both current and future, do propose and subscribe to the following constitution of Wilkes University Pre- Professional Society of the College of Science & Engineering. Article I. Name The name of this organization shall be Pre-Professional Society of the College of Science and Engineering and shall be referred to as the PPS-CSE. Article II. Purpose The purpose of this organization is to promote professional development of the students within the College of Science and Engineering. The PPS-CSE will collaborate with Wilkes University students, personnel and local community organizations to provide programming and opportunities that will foster student success at Wilkes and prepare students for their future careers. Article III. Membership Any student enrolled full-time within the College of Science and Engineering at Wilkes University that is in satisfactory disciplinary standing and satisfactory academic standing is eligible for membership in this club. Article IV. Composition of the PPS-CSE The PPS-CSE will be composed of an Executive Board, a Senate, and a General Assembly. Article V. Executive Board Section 1. Composition The Executive Board will comprise a group of elected officials to the following positions: President, Vice President, Education Chair, Community Service Chair, Social Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer Section 2. Qualifications 1. PPS-CSE membership. 2. Submitted a completed application questionnaire. 3. Shall be limited to sophomore, junior and senior class members. Section 3. General Duties 1. It will be the responsibility of all members of the Executive Board to uphold and enforce the PPS-CSE constitution. 2. The Executive Board will hold a minimum of one Executive Board meeting one week prior to each general meeting.
3. Health Sciences, General Sciences and Engineering Representatives will be required to attend these meetings. 4. Each member of the Executive Board is required to attend all PPS-CSE general meetings. In the case of their absence, they must select a proxy to attend the meeting in their place. The number of absences for each Executive Board member shall be capped at 2. The Executive Board shall not carry more than 2 proxies for any meeting. Extenuating circumstances shall be reviewed by the PPS-CSE. 5. Each member of the Executive Board will be a full voting member of the PPS-CSE. Section 4. Officers & Duties A. President 1. Call and preside over meetings of the PPS-CSE. 2. Work with the Executive Board to set Executive Board meeting times and call general PPS- CSE meetings to order. 3. Set the agenda for PPS-CSE meetings. 4. Convene with the Executive Board prior to the general meeting. 5. Maintain regular communication with all Executive Board members and College of Science and Engineering Student Representatives. 6. Be responsible for the quick and complete execution of all resolutions adopted by the PPS- CSE. 7. Shall have the power to delegate duties among Members at Large when necessary 8. Act as a spokesperson for the PPS-CSE. 9. Serve as the official representative of the College to the University s administration and 10. Plan and implement regular meetings with advisor, faculty and administration as necessary. B. Vice President 1. Assumes the duties of the President in times when the office is temporarily or permanently vacant 2. Ensures that Executive Board and Senate Members are fulfilling attendance requirements 3. Coordinates Peer Mentor Program for all students within PPS-CSE. 4. Creates marketing plan for all CSE-PPS events. 5. Serves as the official representative of the College to the University s administration and C. Education Chair 1. Coordinates, plans and implements educational activities for the PPS-CSE. 2. Works with the Director of Health Sciences and Student Success Center to create a calendar of educational events for the College. 3. Assists the Vice President with marketing all educational events. 4. Communicates upcoming educational events (on or off campus) relevant to PPS-CSE. 5. Collaborates with the Executive Board Treasurer to obtain financial approval for PPS-CSE sponsored events. D. Community Service Chair
1. Coordinates, plans and implements community service activities for the PPS-CSE. 2. Works with the Director of Health Sciences and Student Success Center to create a calendar of community service events for the College. 3. Assists the Vice President with marketing all community service events. 4. Communicates upcoming community service events (on or off campus) relevant to PPS-CSE. 5. Collaborates with the Executive Board Treasurer to obtain financial approval for PPS-CSE sponsored events. E. Social Chair 1. Coordinates, plans and implements social activities for the PPS-CSE. 2. Works with the Director of Health Sciences and Student Success Center to create a calendar of social events for the College. 3. Assists the Vice President with marketing all social events. 4. Communicates upcoming social events (on or off campus) relevant to PPS-CSE. 5. Collaborates with the Executive Board Treasurer to obtain financial approval for PPS-CSE sponsored events. F. Treasurer 1. Coordinates all financial matters of the PPS-CSE. 2. Works with the Director of Health Sciences and Student Success Center and Student Government for all financial matters of PPS-CSE. 3. Provides recommendations regarding PPS-CSE member requests and allocations. 4. Attends regular meetings with advisor, faculty and administration as necessary. G. Secretary 1. Maintains accurate and complete PPS-CSE meeting minutes. 2. Provides minutes in a timely manner to all members of the PPS-CSE. 3. Maintains General Assembly meeting attendance records 4. Maintains the Rules of Procedure 5. Maintains and distributes pertinent contact information Article VI. Senate Section 1. Composition The Senate will comprise a group of three elected representatives from each of the areas of study within the College of Science and Engineering. Section 2. Qualifications 1. PPS-CSE membership 2. Submitted a completed application questionnaire 3. Shall be limited to sophomore, junior and senior class members. Section 3. Senate Officers & Duties

Coordinate 2 nd PPS-CSE meeting per month specific to Mathematics and Computer Science students. 4. Collaborates with Executive Board Chairs (Education, Community Service & Social) and provides professional development activities specific to students interested in a career within Mathematics and Computer Science. of professional development events for students interested in Mathematics and Computer Science. students interested in Mathematics and Computer Science as a career. Article VII. Vacancy Replacements If a member of the PPS-CSE leadership needs to resign, a letter of resignation must be submitted to the Executive Board a minimum of 2 weeks in advance. Students will vote for vacancy replacements with the exception of the office of the President which will be assumed by the Vice President. However, students will vote for the Vice President s subsequent vacancy. Article VIII. Meetings The PPS-CSE General Assembly shall meet twice each month throughout the academic year. 1 st meeting to include CSE wide topic area and 2 nd meeting to engage specific area of study within the CSE. Article IX. Elections PPS-CSE officer elections will be held in January of each year. There shall be a closed ballot; elections of a candidate to a position shall be constituted by a simple majority of the active students present and voting.
If any one candidate does not obtain a majority, the two individuals with the highest number of votes will participate in a run-off election. If there is a tie in the percentage of votes cast in their first election, all of candidates will reintroduce themselves and proceed with another election until there is either a clear majority or two individuals with the highest number of votes. Article X. Dues There will be no dues for this organization. Funds shall be kept with the advisor. Article XI. Amendment Section 1. Amendments may be proposed by 10 members of the PPS-CSE general assembly and submitted to the Executive Board prior to the Executive Board meeting. Amendments received in the appropriate time frame will be added to the agenda. The constitution may then be amended by consensus of the PPS-CSE general assembly. Section 2. Any amendments being voted on must be given a week s advance notice via email to all members of the PPS-CSE.
