University of North Florida Student Affairs Community Council Student Affairs Community Council Mission Valuing the diversity of UNF s student body, the Student Affairs Community Council recognizes the needs of the students and works to meet Divisional priorities. Through leadership, dedication, and support, the Council strengthens student scholarships, facilities, international projects, and special initiatives. The Council values the University s mission and recognizes the importance of learning outside the classroom. Student Affairs Community Council Vision The Student Affairs Community Council provides direct and effective communication between external constituencies and the University of North Florida. Addressing the diverse needs of students, the Council provides opportunities to invest in and support the UNF community and programs.
University of North Florida Student Affairs Student Affairs Mission To create a supportive and engaging educational, social, and recreational environment outside the classroom through co-curricular programs and services that lead to student retention. Student Affairs Purpose To develop our students in a holistic manner to be productive citizens of character upon graduation. Student Affairs Vision To create an engaging campus environment and to be recognized as an integral collaborator with Academic Affairs by 2015.

Student Affairs Community Council Expectations Agreement Each Student Affairs Community Council member will serve as a volunteer of the Division of Student Affairs to attract support from the community. He or she will be a visible leader and will be a motivating force for all other Council members. The Council member endorses institutional growth through community awareness, recognition, encouragement, and promotion of the needs and accomplishments of Division of Student Affairs. Specifically, the Student Affairs Community Council member will: Work with the Vice President for Student and International Affairs and the Director of Development as needed. Actively participate in all council meetings annually and attend events Meaningfully engage in one area of Student Affairs by the end of the 1 st term Assist in prioritizing and promoting goals and projects that strengthen the ties between the community and the University. Assist in developing plans and strategies for Divisional philanthropic efforts by working with University personnel and other leadership volunteers. Make a minimum annual gift determined by the Governance committee, demonstrating leadership interest in and commitment to the success of the Division of Student Affairs and inspiring others to make commitments proportionate to their resources, their relationship, and their affinity to the University of North Florida.
Student Affairs Community Council Committees Executive Committee Consists of the Council Chair, Vice Chair, standing Committee Chairs, Immediate Past President, all Past Student Affairs Community Council Chairs, Vice President for Student and International Affairs, and SA s Director of Development. Will meet between regular SACC meetings, at least two times per year. Will report on its activities at the next regularly scheduled Council meeting. Community Outreach and Awareness Committee Assist in connecting members of the community to UNF and Student Affairs Identify and cultivate potential prospects for UNF Student Affairs Find new members for the Student Affairs Community Council Governance Committee Consists of the Immediate Past Chair and at least two additional members. Takes the lead in Council assessment as to its composition, determining the existing attributes, skill sets, abilities, influence and access to resources that make up the Council. Determines the future needs of the Council as members roll off in order to balance the Council s community representation as it relates to professional experience, board experience, diversity and community engagement. Identifies potential Council member candidates and explores their interest and availability for Council service. Nominates individuals for consideration by the members of the Council. Nominates Council members for election as Council officers. Leadership Committee Establishes a venue for reciprocal partnerships/relationships whereby community feedback is integrated into the Institute for Values, Community and Leadership Provides a resource of leaders as role models representing multiple constituency groups (nonprofit, business and industry, contemporary culture) Gives members an integral perspective of the Institute for Values, Community and Leadership and its impact on students and the University community. Serves as an opportunity to further explore opportunities and alliances with our Community Based Transformational Learning initiative.
Student Affairs Community Council Committees Military and Veterans Program and Services Committee Will assist SA s Director of Military and Veterans Programs and Services in identification, prioritization, and implementation of programs and services that apply research and best practices that ensure the successful transition to college of UNF s military and veteran student population. Assists with developing a strategic vision that creates academic and non-credit programs and curriculum that engage the military services. (War College, Joint Service College programs and initiatives) Assists with the development of relationships with local businesses that creates mentoring programs for military and veteran students, cultivating the necessary skills and abilities to achieve career success following graduation. Disability Resource Committee Will assist SA s Director of Disability Resource Center and Services in implementation of programs and services that ensure a successful college experience for students with disabilities. Will work to establish a venue for reciprocal partnerships/relationships whereby community feedback is integrated into the Disability Resource Center Assists with the development of relationships with local businesses that create mentoring and internship programs for students with disabilities, cultivating the necessary skills and abilities to achieve career success following graduation. Scholarship Committee Will work with UNF staff, faculty and external community members to determine scholarship applicants eligibility for scholarships awarded by the Division of Student Affairs. Will interview scholarship candidate finalists for each scholarship award. Will make final selection of award recipients.
