LMS - LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM END USER GUIDE

Transcription:

Introduction This document is a detailed comparison between NEO and, taking under consideration the features, functionality, and cost of each platform. NEO is a word-class, award-winning learning management system (LMS) for schools and universities. NEO helps schools manage all classroom activities, such as creating and delivering educational content, assessing students, tracking their results, and promoting communication and collaboration between students and teachers/faculty. NEO is a product of CYPHER LEARNING, a company that specializes in providing learning platforms for organizations around the world. is an LMS for K-12 and Higher Ed institutions.

User interface The NEO interface has an intuitive, responsive design that looks sharp and automatically adjusts based on the type of device. It provides attractive tile-based dashboards for students, teachers and administrators, a graphical class catalog, as well as simple pop-out navigation. Many features can be enabled or disabled to suit young children through to college students. NEO provides rich content authoring as well as a visually attractive way to create and organize lesson material. NEO provides mobile apps for ios, Android and Windows. The interface has a responsive design but is not as intuitive as NEO. The platform is mostly text-based, and it lacks many graphical elements such as dashboards for each user type and a graphical class catalog. The platform doesn t offer many options in terms of customization, such as a customizable visitor portal, color schemes, logos, fonts, and more. has mobile apps for ios and Android.

Ease of use NEO is very intuitive and easy to use. In addition, it includes an online help center, with videos, getting started guides, and searchable help content. NEO also has a rapid response support forum where staff members typically respond to questions within 15-30 minutes during business hours 24/5. is relatively easy to use, but harder to navigate because of the text-based design. provides a Help center, video tutorials and a support forum.

Features NEO provides the range of functionality you'd expect in a modern LMS, such as support for classes (instructor led, blended, self-paced, and micro learning), twelve kinds of assignments, full-featured gradebook, content authoring, beautiful lesson layouts, gamification, automation, learning paths, drip content, adaptive learning, mastery and competencies (including US common core standards and Next Generation Science Standards), question banks, class templates, rubrics, collaboration tools, resources catalog, a customizable portal, and more. NEO supports many important industry standards such as SCORM, Common Cartridge Format, LTI, QTI and LDAP. We also integrate with a wide variety of systems, including Google Drive, G Suite, Office 365, OneDrive, Calendars (ical), Turnitin, Zapier, GoToMeeting, Zoom, WebEx, SIS, Equella, and more. offers a significantly smaller feature set and lacks many of the essential features that educators require in their classroom, such as gamification, learning paths, or collaboration tools. Classes are built around activities and don t have an organized layout, which makes them hard to navigate and configure. There is no sequence of lessons with content and assessments and no clear and easy way of organizing lesson material.

Here is a list of the features included with NEO that are not supported by : User Interface Customizable visitor portal Graphical lessons tiles Graphical dashboards Customizable terminology Graphical course catalog Support for more than Graphical resources catalog 40 languages Automatic translation of messages and forum posts Windows native app Branded mobile apps Content Content sync Adaptive learning Certificates of completion Gamification Badges Prerequisite certificates Automation Waitlists Compliance Drip content Class reviews and ratings Micro learning Seating charts

Cost NEO has a free plan and costs about $6 per student per year for its Small school plan and $7 per student per year for its Enterprise plan. There are no setup fees, cancellation fees, storage fees, bandwidth fees, support fees, or other hidden costs. does not disclose its pricing plans on their website, but we have heard anecdotally that it costs around $20 per student per year for the equivalent of a NEO Small school plan. Institutions usually must sign a three-year contract with the company.

Summary This was a comparison of the most important features between NEO and. NEO is a more attractive LMS than, offering a larger set of features that are indispensable to any school doing online learning and teaching. NEO is also easier to configure and more affordable. Schools that don't need LMS "power" features can choose the NEO free plan, which is beautiful, easy-to-use, and includes the core functionality of a modern LMS. Schools that want LMS "power" features can upgrade from the NEO free plan to a NEO premium plan at any time, which includes a larger set of features than at a much lower cost.
