Associate of Science f Health Career Pathways (0063) Overview The purpose of our Associate of Science (0063) degree is to prepare graduates to apply to one of our career programs pursue further education in a variety of advanced health careers by way of transfer to another institution beyond the twoyear degree at Albany State University West campus. Students that wish to apply to any of the health career programs offered at the Darton School of Health Professions must declare Associate of Science f Health Career Pathways (0063) as the intended maj. An advis will be assigned to guide the student along the academic plan that best meets the requirements f the chosen pathway. The courses to be completed f the degree will vary based on the student s career program of choice. The A.S. degree gives a student the opptunity to complete any prerequisites required befe applying to the career program of choice. If a student gains acceptance to a career program, the maj will be changed accdingly. If a student is not accepted into the program of choice, he she will continue taking courses to complete the Associate of Science. The Associate of Science f Health Career Pathways is transferable to other institutions of higher learning. A student wishing to pursue a degree in a health related field requiring an advanced degree may complete the two-year degree at Albany State University West campus then transfer to an institution of higher learning that offers advanced degrees f his her desired area of study. Wking under the guidance of an advis, the courses to be completed f the degree will be tailed to meet the student s educational goals. Students that wish to pursue any of the following career programs offered at Albany State University West campus will initially be pursuing the Associate of Science f Health Career Pathways (0063): Two-Year Degrees Dental Hygiene Diagnostic Medical Sonography Emergency Medical Services Health Infmation Technology Histologic Technology Medical Labaty Technology Nursing Occupational Therapy Assistant Physical Therapist Assistant Radiologic Science Respiraty Care Please note: The courses to be completed f the degree will vary based on the student s preferred area of study which is referred to as the pathway f the career program of choice. Therefe, it is imptant to meet with an advis to map out the best academic plan to achieve his her goal. The student should first focus on taking the prerequisites required f the program f which they will be applying. All career programs have a selective admissions process. This means that a seat in any program is awarded only to the top applicants. Simply meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to a program. The general education courses required f each career program are summarized in the comparison chart f all 2-year health career programs at Albany State University West campus on the last page of the packet.

Associate of Science Degree f Health Career Pathways (0063) Curriculum Sheet Students wishing to apply to a career program will have A.S. (0063) as the Primary Maj and the career program of choice as the secondary maj. Please refer to the requirements of the secondary maj as a guide when selecting the courses in each Area f completion of the A.S. degree. The A.S. degree (0063) is transferable and may also be taken without declaring a secondary maj. Area A Essential Skills (9 Hours) To complete Area A: ENGL 1101, ENGL 1102, and one MATH course must be completed Must pass ENGL 1101 and 1102 with a grade of C higher o If the student earned a grade of D, F, WF in the most recent attempt of ENGL 1101 ENGL 1102, the student is required to enroll in the class again each semester until the class has been passed with a C better. o If the student was enrolled in the learning suppt ENGL 0999/ENGL 1101 co-req and earned a grade of D, F, WF in the ENGL 1101, the student must repeat BOTH the ENGL 0999 and ENGL 1101 regardless of the grade received in 0999. MATH 1001 is acceptable f completion of the A.S. degree f Health Career Pathways (0063), Emergency Medical Services, and Nursing; all other career programs require MATH 1111 higher. Area F Health Career Pathway (18 Hours) To complete Area F: 18 credit hours must be completed Must also complete an Anatomy & Physiology requirement o The A&P series BIOL 2411K & BIOL 2412K should be advised f ALL health career students. o Some programs will accept BIOL 1100K f the A&P requirement; however, it is not recommended f anyone that intends to transfer outside of ASU as BIOL 1100K will not transfer to anotherinstitution. o BIOL 1100K cannot be used in Area F f the Associate of Science and the credits will be lost unless the student completes an actual career program where BIOL 1100K is acceptable such as Dental Hygiene, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Services, Radiologic Science, and Respiraty Care. Additional credit hours in Area F An additional 8 credit hours must be taken to complete Area F Any course option listed under Area B-E (except f HLTH classes) may be used to satisfy Area F but cannot be used twice f the degree. Any ALHE, ACCT, and BUSA, course may also be applied to Area F f the A.S. (0063) f Health Career Pathways.
